Am I just blind or is there no download history to see what games you already bought on itunes?

Edit: :lol Apparently I am blind. Now I've got it.

Edit2: Well, now that I've figured that out what games are worth buying that are on sale? I'm assuming you were recommending the bolded?
Yeah.. pretty much. Also there's some great new games that just came out for a decent price, so make sure to check those out. See: Touchgrind, Snail Mail, 1112.

For what? I have no incentive to do so.

If these devs are in this to make $$, they shouldn't require the latest FW since not all iPhone owners are on it (<2.0 excluded, obviously).

Honestly why are you here? Ya, it's so unreasonable to have to have your iphone/ipod touch updated and using the new firmware besides no other company has ever done this.

Cool, thanks a lot for the recommendations.

Cheese with that? Really, I'm dying to hear the reasoning for not taking ten minutes - at most - to upgrade to the latest firmware.

My guess is doing so would make it harder for him to troll.

Troll these nuts. My phone is Jailbroken and I like it as is. I can download most things off the App store so it's really a non-issue.

so....what does Hero of Sparta actually look like?
Like this.

Snail Mail won't launch on my phone. The loading bar fills up and then it dumps me back to my home screen.

As far as I know, the latest firmware is jailbroken too, so that's really no excuse either.

Do you guys think the games above are really pushing the iPhone and it's processor to the limit?

Or does the iPhone still have more impressive visuals in store for us in the coming years?

Basically I know games will continue to improve on the iPhone visually, I'm just trying to get a sense for how much of the performance we have unlocked so far....

There's also a new skateboarding game out for the iPhone/iPod Touch, called 'Touchgrind'.
The iPhone shows your skateboard top-down, and you can pull off stunts using the multi-touch feature of the touch screen. E.g. an ollie is lifting your index finger and then your middle finger (and landing it is another story). It's like finger-boarding! Could be an interesting game. Click for review at Arstechnica.com.

Sheesh, I've bought about $35 worth of apps in the last couple days. I need to stop playing these games and start reviewing some of them for you guys so you can enjoy them too. :)

I can't put down Bike or Die 2!

oh, fuck!

anonymousAversa, that's your showcase.

I've yet to actually complete a level in that. Dunno what I'm doing wrong :lol
Not even the tutorial?! :lol

It's tough, yeah, but that's what makes it so awesome. Getting everything just right is so rewarding. Then once you finish all the pre-made levels, you can get and upload thousands more online.

Does anyone have any hints or tricks or advice or anything for TapDefense? I've been trying to finish it all day with different strategies but nothing, i always die at around 30 levels in.

DaCocoBrova said:
Dammit. Keeps telling me 'this app is not comtabilble with this iPhone' bullshit. Running 2.0.1.

The only reason I can fathom why you are doing this is that your phone is jailbroken and you are downloading apps from various places online. Other than that I can't figure out why you wouldn't want the newest firmware because it improves the phone a great deal.

Hello! Self promoter here: (I PMed EvilLore to check if this was alright so if I get banned soon after you'll know the answer to that and so will I. Har.)

Our (that is, mine and two friends') very first iPhone game, Bomboozle iPhone, is available for download now!

bomboozle_iphone_screens.jpg

Think of it as a cross between normal blob-matching games like Puyo Puyo and Polarium - instead of mixing and matching by flipping blobs around, you have to draw the lines out of the different colours. It's quite strategic as you have to make sure they fall into place to open up different opportunities later on. This is especially important on Skull Mode, where your line lengths determine whether the next blobs to drop down are useless skulls or blob-destroying (and skull-destroying) bombs.

Official site for the game, with a link to original (free) Flash version. The iPhone version costs £1.79 ($3).

Thank you, hope you enjoy it!

If the tutorial counts, then yeah I've done that. Anything past that is just too hard :(

Holy christ, you made Bomboozle?

I've been such a big fan since coming across it in the Whirled beta - consider this an instant sale.

I look forward to the inevitable DS port!

I can't take much credit since it was completely my friend's creation - I just helped with some iPhone-related graphics for the port. Glad to know there are some fans of this lurking about GAF though!

DS port... You maayyyy be waiting a while.

1112 is pretty interesting point and click adventure. The graphics are decent, and it makes good use of the touch interface. At times the translation is a little off. The music is also good. This is defintely a genre I would like to see more of.

Capcom REALLY needs to bring an entirely new Phoenix Wright to the iPhone/Touch

It would be a natural fit.

They could set it between episode and and two, or make it an entirely new game with episode 1 characters.

Agreed, especially considering how awesome 1112 is.

I would imagine that a Trauma Center would be kickass as well.

Anywho, what's everyone been playing lately? I've got a few that I'm playing a lot right now (and a lot that I'm playing for a few minutes :p)

Reign of Swords is an awesome srategy game that has me hooked. It's like a medieval Advance Wars, but cooler. Try the Lite version here!

Bike or Die! 2 is what I'm playing if I'm not playing Reign. It's got a shit-ton of levels, and it's very challenging, but extremely rewarding. Highly recommended!

Flick Fishing just got a huge update with an added quest (story) mode, and a bunch of other additions like new fish and locations. This is the best fishing app out there, and it's only .99 cents! Even if you don't like to fish, you should give this a try. So fun.

Others:
1112 - great point and click game
Bejeweled 2 - perfect for the doctor's office, so addicting!
Snail Mail - one of the best "racing" games out on the App Store yet
The Price is Right - this app replicates the show perfectly, and is just as fun to play as it is to watch
Touchgrind - I'm still kind of getting used to it, but it's a solid pickup if you're dedicated to pulling off some cool tricks (this game is going to have a lot of support)
Quick Draw - iSketch for your iPhone.. fun to play, just needs more words online

What are you playing/enjoying?

I'm playing 1112 right now. As I stated a few posts above. This is genre I want to see more of. Some ports of older PC and C64 games of the genre to ITouch/Iphone would be awesome.

Also, I'm not sure if it has been mentioned. There is a text-based adventure emulator called Frotz, which is pretty sweet as well. Check it out.

Has anybody played Lux Touch? I have for real been obsessed with this game since I downloaded it, which is weird cause the AI is ridiculously easy to beat. If they ever release a deluxe version of this game, I think it will be the first item I purchase from iTunes ever.

I'm from the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' school. I only upgrade FW when I absolutely need to. That and having to take the time to do it, research etc make me not want to bother ATM.

I may give it a stab in the coming weeks. It's just not that urgent.

That looks a lil' racist to me.

From what I've seen, Safari was broken, and they've done a pretty good job of fixing it. It still crashes, but I haven't been nearly as frustrated with it since the firmware update.

I am amazed that you don't consider 2.0.1 absolutely broken. After 2.2, the phone contacts list loads faster, safari is much less crashy, keyboard typing has zero lag in any app. plus battery life is much better and 3rd party apps crash much less and install much faster.

oh, and itunes backups are around 10-20 times faster.

I found 2.0.x to be infuriating.

anyway, if you're not experiencing those problems, more power to you. if you are, then you should really update to 2.2.

Yeah, I loved it when it first came out.. thenI got bored of winning all the time. There's a Deluxe version coming out soon, but that's about all that's been announced.

I've been buying like crazy the past two days:

Tap Tap Dance
Christmas with Weezer
Dr. Awesome
Low Grav Racer
Bomboozle
Bounce Trap
Zombie Attack!

All fun as hell.

I love the App Store.

Tried out Brother in Arms, and think it's not bad so far. I think the walk disc on the left is a little awkward, and might be easier if it was more dpad shaped and you just had to tap toward each end. With the circle, it seems a little small so I'm not sure sometimes if my thumb is on it right, or if i need to be holding or sliding, etc. Definitely more in depth than I was expecting.

The shooting aspect is pretty fun, but it's kinda like the DS title where they took out the cover/flank stuff. I'd like to see a more tactical version as well, maybe going for an iso or top down view and making it a little more puzzley (like those old MS Close Combat games... which would also make a good phone game franchise i think)

Also I like to sometimes experiment and try those one dollar toys (like the beer or zippo, etc.), and downloaded iMartini. There's definitely more to it than the beer pouring one, and it's kinda funny that when you drink too many, the world starts to warp and swirl behind it. Not much to it, but I guess we don't expect much for a buck.
