Game legitmately deserves a pimping post. Good game. Very simple play wise as it mainly comes down to timing a drop with a button press to stack towers. It doesn't really push the full functionality of the iphone like some of the other tower stacking games on the market (meaning no balancing via the iphone, not real twisting or turning of blocks via touch gestures) but sometimes there is a charm in having a fairly simply tightly compacted game design no matter what the platform is versus throwing everything and the kitchen sink in a game. The strategy comes more in the building placement portion of the game. And it's a really pretty game in a way I appreciate in that it is functionally good looking versus just being showy and kind of being a mess like how some games end up.

Ok thanks. BTW the demo reached Top 1 game in USA, UK, Spain, France, Italy, Spain... :)

I just bought Puzzle Quest based on all the positive remarks I've seen in this thread. I have had it for 2 days, and it has lost my character 3 times. I run the game, and I can't continue my quests, I can only start a new one.

Has anyone else run into this issue?

I've put in 15 hours with it at least and never had any issues.

Unfortunate. Might want to check the puzzle quest thread over at touch arcade.

Got Sway and Zen Bound last night. Kinda have a hard time with sway cause of my Palsy...

...does anyone know of an iPod Touch v2 skin that covers to the edge of the screen? I find my "bad" thumb always seems to slip off of the touch surface and a slight ridge would really help me out

I'd have paid $10+ for Zen Bound. Absolutely beautiful game. Plus free OST :D

Did you select yes to online file saving? I did and had no problems BUT i'm yet to go online since I brought puzzle quest with my touch, so fingers crossed I don't lose my 5+ hours spent already.

My iphone is JB but i buy my games.
Its my 7th one and it was towerbloxx

Did we know Cooking Mama was coming out at all, let alone yesterday?

$7. Initial reviews seem good.

I bought Cooking Mama. Looks like its $7 for 15 dishes, which seems a little high. I've never bought a version of Mama before, so its fresh to me. Looks great, controls are great and it seems like a perfect fit for the iPhone. No regrets here.

15?! =S

There's a bunch of games I've bought I've barely played, so I'm not buying any more. These include:

Payback, $6 - Driving in this game is alright. Aiming sucks. I got to the training mission where you have to throw grenades and just fucking quit. Horrible, awful implementation. Not fun at all. Then I get to listen to some fake accent Australian jackass mock me when I fail. Fuck that game.

Rolando, $10 - Admittedly cool game, I just got kinda bored about 1/3 of the way through

Katamari, $8 - Haven't played since finishing the second level. It's pretty good, but too slow for my tastes.

Rebel Onslaught, $4 - Space shooter kinda like Star Fox. Kinda impressive, but ultimately just a boring fucking game. Only got through the second level.

Fieldrunners, $3? - This is a huge timesink. I've only beaten the second level because they go on FOREVER. Pretty fun, but I prefer the free TapDefense.

SimCity, $10 - I'm kinda discouraged from playing this most of the time because it sucks the battery like nothing else. Good when you're next to a plug though. Incoming calls can pwn cities.

So I've spent about $40 on these games but haven't played any of them (except probably SimCity) for more than 2 hours, many considerably less. Oh well. Live and learn.

Are there any sites like toucharcade.com but for apps?

Its almost impossible to find new/decent apps since its nothing but games and fart sounds in the top100.

Yeah, at this point, Games needs to be forked off into its own whole section, apart from apps.

Apple created a monster here, no doubt.

I finally got Zen Bound and it's really tough to explain why it's so good. I almost want to call it the Flower of iPhone games.

Games that I paid money to download with review score:

1. Fieldrunners (8/10)
2. Dr. Awesome (8/10)
3. Rolando (6/10) I guess I am not too into this type of game, cause I didn't really like LocoRoco either.
4. The Price is Right (7/10)
5. iDracula (Just got it)
6. Spore Origins (7/10)
7. Tiki Towers (8/10)

It's amazing how a large company are throwing out games which seem to be a ton worse them some single indie efforts, you would think they know how to make a good and fun game *rolleyes*

It's the Wii effect.

We recently reported that Chillingo’s iDracula [App Store], still sitting at the #1 spot in the iTunes App Store, would soon be getting a major update. The developer posted details to our forums.

Don’t have much time, but wanted to say that a new game mode is amazing - I just love it . As I see in the recent messages, someone suggested it - it’s Wave Attack, where monsters attack wave by wave, with a chance to give you a rest between. I’ve also made a different Perk system for this mode.

Ah, and there will be another mode, which is not done yet, but should be fun, too. I won’t reveal details on this one. Let it be surprise.

We’ve since learned more of what the v1.1 update will bring:

2 new levels
2 new weapons
2 new game modes
Online highscore system
Various minor fixes and tweaks
Chillingo has recently posted a gameplay screenshot in our forums showing one of the new levels (above) and released a short video that reveals a number of the update’s features.

The iDracula v1.1 update should be available in early March.

I bought Katamari last night and was pleasantly surprised at how good it is. The production values are through the roof and the slowdown during the motion blur doesn't bug me as that seems to be when they're loading.

Zen Bound up to #24 on the App Store. Darn good for a new game only a couple of days out from release.

I was playing Zen Bound again last night. till 3 AM. so great. I like how things get a little tense when you're at 95 or 96% complete and you want to hit 99% by grabbing a little bit of wood left by the end nail without accidentally tying the rope on it.

the lighting is also pretty impressive. I found out one of the Crysis engineers worked on this one. the attention to detail is great.

Word Fu is totally awesome, even though I suck at it. It's one of those spell as many words as you can with limited letters games, with a bit of a twist. You roll dice to get the initial letters and have a certain amount of time before you are stuck with a particular roll. You can also flick individual dice to further customize the letters. Pretty great, very frantic and definitely worth a buck if you like word games and don't mind a time limit.

I just stumbled across this interesting-looking TD call Sentinel:
http://fingergaming.com/forums/topic/sentinel-a-new-tower-defence-game-on-the-iphone

Has anyone played this? I totally love Fieldrunners and the Creeps and this looks purty - just wondering if the gameplay holds up, and if so - why more people aren't freaking out over it...

Wow. iDracula the best $.99 app ever.

and fuck me I'm a sucker for TD on the iPhone and from that vid Sentinel looks to be the best looking yet. Must hold back. Bought Sway(amazing) and Zen Bound (ehh maybe too relaxing) already this week.

Grabbed Word Fu last night. It's pretty (unsurprisingly) good, but I wish the round was longer than 45 seconds. Getting that 5000 point achievement will be nuts.

Anyone here with experience from the game Slay by Sean O'Connor?

http://www.windowsgames.co.uk/slay.html

It's a strategy game previously available for Windows, Palm, Pocket PC & Symbian. And it's been released on App Store now ($3.99):

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=305324342&mt=8

I like the look of it, so I'm thinking about buying this.

According to profilers, every serial killer is compelled to take a trophy from each victim. It's really not all that dissimilar from a couple buying "wish you were" postcards during an RV trip across America. There is something compelling about keeping evidence -- a danger that if such a stockpile is ever discovered, the serial killer's carefully sculpted facade will crumble away. That in itself is a thrill -- maybe more thrilling than the kill itself.

For Dexter Morgan, the anti-hero of Showtime's hit series, the trophy is a single drop of blood. And in the upcoming iPhone game based on the blood technician's moonlighting, you will add to this trophy case by following the temptations of the Dark Passenger, the force that compels Dexter to commit his crimes according to the Code, as explained by Dexter's father. Wait. Dark Passenger? Code? Don't worry. If you are not at all familiar with the show, the game will not leave you hanging. Instead of playing inside baseball, Dexter explains the ambitions and drives of the titular serial killer while you set up the very first revenge scene.

Revenge is actually what makes Dexter a sympathetic character. Dexter does not pick up co-eds and slaughter them for sexual release or any of the sometimes-bizarro nastiness you see on "CSI." Dexter only kills to affect the balance of cosmic justice. We all know that sometimes the guilty stay not just one step ahead of the law, but a mile due to the pacing of good detective work. Because Dexter has a killer's instinct himself, he is often able to piece things together faster and then he avenges the victims of these villains. And he does it in sick style.

Here's the opening scene from the game, which does indeed contain spoilers. You know a choir teacher has been killing children. The police are too far back on this case, so you plan to accelerate justice tonight. First, you must set up the revenge room so the teacher, Donovan, is faced with his crimes. To do this, you must dig up the bodies of the slain. (Exhuming dead kids? Hello, 17+ rating on iTunes.) After acquiring a shovel, you locate the disturbed earth in a seedy park. To dig, you play a small minigame that is not entirely unlike Track and Field where you pound corners of the screen. You must drag three bodies out of the ground to set up the revenge room, but if you locate the fourth body, you score a 100-percent rating on evidence.

After picking up the bodies and getting the room ready, it's time to fetch Donovan. Here, Dexter reveals itself to be something of a stealth game. There is a long street of cars. At the far end of the street, Donovan is getting into his. Since he's the nervous killer type, he looks around from time to time. You must duck behind cars to avoid detection as you close in on your quarry. Once you have Donovan in your grasp, you take him back to the revenge room where he sees the neatly stacked bodies of the dead children.

Oh, but that's not the extent of your revenge...

Once you have Donovan strapped to a table, you engage him in conversation. Now, if you thought Dexter was dark up to this point, wait until you listen to the dialog here. Written by one of the show's writers, Timothy Schlattmann, the dialog in the game sounds authentic. It's also delivered by Michael C. Hall, who plays Dexter in the show. You have different dialog options to choose from, each which varying degrees of edge. The rightmost of your three options is somewhat cloying, allowing you to tease a confession out of Donovan. The leftmost option, which is shadowed, is grisly. Dexter gets right to the point and confront Donovan in ugly language (not necessarily cursing) that is downright scary.

But what are you going to do? Talk this guy to death? Once the conversation has played out and Donovan admits he is a sick man, you end his life. And at this point, your iPhone becomes a scalpel. You don't actually see Dexter carve Donovan. Instead, you do it yourself, swiping your iPhone back and forth, using the accelerometer to wield this virtual blade. Out of the speakers, you hear every cut and tear, as well as Donovan's screams. It is... creepy.

So, how does Dexter manage to keep it together enough to blend into polite society if he's slicing up child killers on his off-hours? The answer is the Mask, which is the ability to compartmentalize all of that grim stuff. Dexter has the Mask mastered. He also everybody fooled. Well, almost everybody. There is a detective in the department, Doakes, who has his suspicions about Dexter. But as long as you keep up the Mask, you can get by with murder. The Mask is affected, though, your activity. Remember those shadowy conversation buttons from Donovan's killing? If you pick the most horrific options and let Dexter really indulge in his darkness, you lose some of the Mask. That may make it harder to keep up with the rest of the cases in the game, which follows the events of the first season of the show. After eliminating Donovan, you have other people to track and destroy, such as the Ice Truck Killer.

Dexter is still early, but the game engine is showing enormous promise. Created by Icarus, Dexter right now exists on the same plane as a real good PSP game. The stages are large and detailed, such as the police station and Dexter's apartment. You look around by dragging your finger around the screen. You have two movement options. The first, and the one I liked the most, reminded me of the original Resident Evil games. You turn Dexter by tilting the device and then use forward and backward virtual buttons on-screen. You can also choose a virtual analog stick like Hero of Sparta.

The game includes two views. First-person view lets you really get in the faces of other characters. While the stages look pretty good at this point (there will be polish in the next few weeks, of course), I was immediately struck by how smooth and detailed faces are in the game. Dexter looks a lot like Hall. But even secondary characters and just bystanders such as a guard look very, very good.

Look for more information on Dexter on IGN Wireless very soon. And don't expect this to be the last of the series on the App Store. If successful, future Dexter games will explore events from seasons two and three.

Sounds fucking awesome.

I was gonna get iDracula but I saw a youtube video of it and it seems pretty slow, maybe I was just watching a crappy Youtube video. Does it get intense later on?

:lol Sorry, I left out "good"

Perhaps your new to the scene but the iphone is full of them. It's one of the most popular genres on it.

FieldRunners
7 Cities
The Creeps
Geodefense

are all good ones imo.

There is even one on this page that is new but that people seem to like which is Sentinel.

It's only a dollar so it's not like your breaking the bank if you don't like but it does get intense rather quickly.
I didn't even realize it was that sort of game. From videos I thought it was a Hero of Sparta type game but its really a Geometry Wars meets Robotron kind of game. Which means it heats up pretty good.
