Anyone else's Peggle like crashing whilst loading and in game? I was on the train on the way home earlier and it took 5 attempts to get into the game, 2 crashed after the slooooooooooooooow loading screen finished and the other 3 were 2 seconds after I entered a level and cleared the level's welcome message, then after I finished that level it crashed during the next. It was probably due to me having music on, I've noticed its a lot smoother when I'm not listening to anything.

Still an awesome game though, but I feel it needs some more optimisation.

OK, I played for about 6 or 7 minutes. quick impressions.

I like it.

But it's not perfect. the opening song is friggin' grating and it takes a couple levels before there's a tune that I enjoy. And there's only 10 songs in the game (I guess that's ok for 5 bucks)

that said, the music definitely has a techno pop feel and is very different compared to Ouendan (or EBA, obviously with the American pop). I prefer the Ouendan music but this is a personal preference and everyone is different. check the videos Stoney posted for a sense of the music.

The tapping mechanics seem to work OK. the timing window is very large on easy and but it seems more tight on normal.

The tuneys jump from the bottom of the screen and there's a purple circle showing where they land and where you need to tap. it's different from Ouendan, where you have numbers telling you where to tap in order. here you need to see the purple circles show up in order and then tap once the jumping Tuneys meet the mark. mix in the vertical movement of the tuneys, and it's a bit harder to figure out at first (which would explain the huge timing window on easy).

It's too early for me to comment about elaborate tapping patterns or anything that would show up on harder difficulties. I will say that the 2 boss fights I've played have been the best bits in the game so far. you have to hit your normal combos but then there's a small break where you slap the boss for damage or trace a pattern to keep going. I really do like the break up in the game.

Oh, and the art design for the bosses and the game world itself is quite nice. vivid colors and simple geometric shapes.

Now, there's also a DJ mode that I played a bit and has a different mechanic. this has 5 columns with tuneys moving up them in a straight path to a marker line. and you tap on the line when the tuneys hit it. plays more like Tap tap revenge than ouendan.

so, that's nice. there's also a "Crazy" mode but I haven't unlocked it yet. Perhaps by the end of the night...

So, yeah, I like it. worth 5 bucks to me but the music and the specific way hit markers show up might be turn off for some folks. check videos for the music before buying.

World of Tunes is currently on sale for US$1.99. I'm checking it out.

Yea just bought it since it was on sale. Really fun game.

Anywayz: I did'nt see why everyone likes Peggle so much. But with everyone saying how great it is I downloaded it and...WAIT! I'm not playing it right now?! Gotta go see ya!!!

Wow on Stage 2-2 right now and really it is just awsome :D

I've never played Peggle before. Heard so much about it though so I downloaded it to my Touch about an hour ago. Went to go take a shit and try it out. I was on the toilet for 45 fucking minutes because of that game. I was done shitting in 5 minutes but I just kept playing and didn't pay attention to anything else. Fuck I love playing games on my iTouch.

That is one of the funniest first-time Peggle impressions I've ever seen :lol

PopCap will find that the App Store will be a gold mine for them if they keep releasing their titles on there. Plants vs. Zombies would be the next (perfect) step. Then Heavy Weapon.

The Creeps just got an update that should be live in a few hours. I've always liked this one. It isn't as fiendishly difficult as some of the other TD games on the iphone which is right about my speed.

* Added 1 new ocean themed Mega Boss
* Added 4 new "Survival" maps
* Added 4 new "Endurance" maps
* Added a new game type: "Door Buster" (Race against the clock, objective is to destroy the door!)
* Added 6 new "Door Buster" maps
* Added New Tower: "Paper Shuriken" - it moves in straight line until it hits a terrain obstacle, piercing through creeps along the way doing high damage
* Added New Tower: "Piggy Bank" (it doesn't attack, it collects coins with interest. Break open to get the cash, but once broken it cannot be used again)
* Added difficulty levels (Easy, Normal, Hard)
* Added Fast Forward (double speed)
* Added "Badges" for earning bonuses. Can you get a gold star (perfect) on every level?
* Major optimizations: CPU/Battery usage is now approximately 50% of what it was in version 1.1.1
* Added help screens for towers, creeps, bosses, mega bosses, game modes and badges
* Semi-randomized waves of creeps for increased variety
* Re-vamped high scores to show badges, filter maps by game type
* Level select: Added reflections
* Level select: Now shows your #1 high score with earned badges for the selected level
* Level select: Levels now in separate lists by game type
* Level select: Higher resolution image for locked levels
* Added "coins earned" indicator whenever destroying something (pop up of +12 coins etc)
* Automatically imports scores and unlocked levels when upgrading from ANY previous version
* Added level restart option from in-game menu
* Almost all endurance levels now have all normal weapons available (by popular request!)
* Endurance levels now start with the extra coins it would have taken to purchase the pre-placed towers from the level's Survival counterpart
* Increased difficulty ramping in Endurance maps (again!)
* Bed "Health" is now displayed as a number
* All creeps now have a boss version (some of the original creeps didn't before)
* Fixed multiple bugs including that annoying scoreboard bug that would mess up your name.
* New rule: Only one super tower of a kind can be built. If you have one built already, it won't show up in the build menu. If you sell it, it will become available in the build menu again

EDIT: It's up.

Wow at Resident Evil: Degeneration. I've only played the first Chapter, but I'd recommend it for RE4 fans. The touch analog stick works well since you're moving so much slower (and the 180 turn around with a quick flip down actually works well) and there's some auto aiming (might be because I'm playing on easy the first time through). The graphics are poor for the iPhone, but they are smooth with no hickups on my 1G iPhone (which I can't say for most 3D games that have been released lately). The only complaint I have is the lack of voice acting so far, but I know Leon's and Hunnigans voice so well that I don't really need it.

I'm impressed and I think its totally worth the $7 even if it only lasts a couple of hours, especially if you're a RE4 fan.

http://www4.ideaworks3d.com/docs/11/en/Resident_Evil_Airplay_Press_Release.pdf

This is why we got the game.

I edited out something in my original post about wanting ideaworks3D's Metal Gear N-Gage game also, but it seems its also build on this Airplay system. Maybe it is possible after all.

edit//

Even more thinking leads me to believe that possibly the Airplay technology is also responsible for the Pandemonium port a few weeks back. (ideaworks3D at least did the original N-Gage port way back in the day). I'm not sure if the new N-Gage version was actually any different or better, just speculating.

Got that Peggle after trying it for five minutes on the PC (demo). It rocks, spent an hour playing it at work today (um, on mute). On a side note, if you are playing a podcast or song from the iPod it lets you keep on playing that while playing. Also, if you rotate (I like to play with the volume buttons facing UP), the game automatically changes the screen. Wish more games did this.

Overall very fun.

Does Peggle truly have no background music while playing? There was a video of the game that was like that, but the guy could have turned off music or something. Seems rather stupid for them to have ported the rest of the game but left out the music...it's just not Peggle without the music.

No it doesn't. I mean I could always add the music and just play it through the ipod but it is an odd omission.

That hawks video looks fake to me, no way the screen has that much lag with the touch screen in real time games, plus all the flickering and cutting away seems to me like he is trying to crop together his recordings. Then there is the fact he tilts the phone wrong in a few parts of the game play :P

It's certainly a well done fake if it is although the fact that Activision has been very slow to embrace the iphone makes me somewhat skeptical along with the editing.

Already mentioned but I'll go ahead and post the screens.

Resident Evil: Degeneration. I have no idea if its decent or not but the file size is pretty small for a game of this type which often isn't a good sign.

It does indeed look quite rushed, a shame. Graphically it looks like they had to make it in a rush because I seen the iphone do a lot better then that.

The control setup looks like it works well wich a touch screen, that's good at least.

Man, i shoulda waited :lol

2 bucks is such a steal.

I actually hate the appstore economy, but what happened was probably they didn't get many sales.

Anyway, everyone should buy The Creeps! It's such an awesome TD game. It has real charm, it's simple (I never got into 7 Cities- it just seemed too 'deep') and fun. And HOLY COW at that update. They improved battery life by cutting down consumption to 50%! New game modes!

So much fun.

It's actually a port so in that sense it is an improvement but it's certainly not anything that would be impressive relative to what the iphone is capable of.

Are you running beta version on iPhone/iPod update (3.0)?

downgrade if you are... it runs like ass in 3.0

Just picked this up this morning, almost killed my battery at work playing it :lol

The only parts I had problems with lag was when you end a level. "Ode to Joy" cuts in and it does slow down considerably, but since it is out of your control at that point, I wouldn't call it a deal breaker. Plus playing with ipod music on doesn't seem to cause any slowdown either. If you're getting crazy slowdown, maybe try resetting your phone? Other programs sometimes stay in the memory and can cause slowdown or crashes.

I applaud Pop Cap for actually porting the entire game, rather than making a scaled down iPhone version with less pegs for the smaller screen. I think the zoom feature more than makes up for that, not to mention the touch controls work exceptionally well, precision wheel and all.

you should see the ipod nano and classic version. 320 x 240 and there's lots of pegs on the screen!

I feel a little burned by World of Tunes. I'm really bad at rhythm games when the visual cues aren't strong (I have poor rhythm). Having to track the tuneys across the screen is tough - the timing seems off to me (I know there's a timing adjust, but it's still not grabbing me). On top of that they have tuneys crossing paths, leading em to hit the wrong things.

:( The music is kind of plonky. There's charm, don't get me wrong, but it's not really much fun, and the animations seem a bit loose.

edit: Sheepish looks nice, but after playing the flash game, I don't think it's for me. It's just like teh old Apple II fixit! Which I did like, but this one was a little grating.
Ugh.

That's on purpose, it's supposed to go into slow-motion at that point

Haha...NO. It runs great, and looks much better than Peggle DS. The control options on the iPhone version trump the DS as well.

Dreamwriter said:

There is a bit of lag or low frame rate though even beyond the slow motion. There is also a slight delay occasionally after you press the fire button. And the Zen shot takes comparatively a great deal longer to calculate compared to the 360 or the PC. (not surprising of course with the difference in power)

It does have a few flaws but nothing that stops it from being a great game or stops the iphone version from being a very playable version.

Just finished Ch. 1 in RE: Degeneration. Uh not so impressed so far. Graphics are pretty bad, animation is horrible, controls are kinda awkward. If you're looking for a shooter I'd say that Terminator is a lot better so far.

EDIT: It's up.

Just picked this up because of the combination of the big update/sale (a buck cheaper, lol). The iPhone has turned me into a big fan of TD games. I'm still playing GeoDefense the most, but they're all pretty fun games to toy around with. I like the games like GeoDefense/Pixeljunk Monsters, etc... where there are different puzzles to figure out... not just a blank canvas like Field Runners.

I'm surprised to hear people consider The Creeps to be one of the easier TD games on the platform. I love it to pieces, but it definitely seems harder to me than Sentinel or Fieldrunners. Not on par with GeoDefense, but I still lose about half the time when trying a level for the first time.

Anyway, the update for The Creeps is really fantastic and adds a decent chunk of content to what was already a great game. Probably my overall favorite TD game on the AppStore.

I'm really hating World of Tunes. I though it might get better on hard (after finishing normal), but the issues that I brought up above are just as bad. I AM really bad at these games, but the way these things fly all over the screen...

I fucking love my iPod touch. Terminator is dope. Peggle is addicting as hell. And now, slingbox player is out and its dope as hell. I hope Tony Hawk is real, I'll be getting that day one.

People without an iPhone or iPod touch are really missing out.

Been playing Peggle, and digging the Resident Evil control more than Terminator maybe because RE's gameplay is slower

NFS control is the first tilt control that I like, and speaking of tilt control Pee Monkey not so much

Wow, it looks like a total rip off of Plants vs Zombies. But then, that might not be the first of its kind either, so I'm not sure.

I kind of really, really, really hope that's the case. I'd kill for something that plays like PvZ on the iPhone.

My first thought, too! PvZ is most certainly not the first of its type, though.

(It is one of the best!)

I love that the Crystal Defenders games are considered "defensive simulations". You know, in case you need to defend your home from Cactrot and Bahamut, you can now get your practice in on the go. Thanks Square Enix!

Okay, so I tried the demo and it seems like a turn based PvZ. Not sure if I like it or not...

Finally beat Gordy in GeoDefense, after about 30 tries. Protip:
missile towers, and lots of them
.

It's such a good game. Definitely my favourite tower defence so far, on any platform.

Had peggle on PC until I migrated to mac.

have peggle on my macbook which I've completed. Haven't bought nights yet.

have peggle on DS - working my way through adventure to unlock nights.

still worth buying on touch? For some reason adventure mode never gets old, so I could play simultaneously on DS and touch. But I bought the DS one mainly for nights as I've never played it.

DS is a bit clunky though - very low res. Is the iphone version better in that respect?

(who am I kidding, I'll buy it anyway, I've already bought it three times, whats one more? fuck it, I'll go and buy nights on the mac too...)
