Yes it is pretty fun, similar to Hot Shots Golf, the framerate isn't the best though (I am on an original iPhone)

thx, just bought ist together with mecho wars and asphalt 4 - 3 games for unter 3 euro...awesome :D

Just got my 3GS and am getting ready for work. 5 best free games you guys recommend? Gogogo.

I Love Katamari is like 60fps now. :lol

Shit is awesome, it's finally playable (and then some).
Crash Racing has received a nice boost in frames as well.

This 3GS upgrade is going to get me into a lot more iPhone games, provided they come out with a nice universal gaming add-on peripheral.

Would you recommend Katamari to someone who enjoyed the 360 version, being the only version they've played, but found it kinda hard? (I would meet the goal and the Prince would still tell me I suck!!!)

Just yesterday I wouldn't have been able to answer this question but I've been testing out my games a lot today :D

Games I love so far:

Need for Speed Undercover - racing
Castle of Magic - 3d Kirby/Mario type platformer
Edge - cube puzzler/platformer/just play it
Taxiball - crazy taxi meets monkey ball
mevo - rhythm platformer
Tap Tap 2 - guitar hero but with your thumbs, you can even verse lobbies online, get it!
Bomber Online - online Bomberman clone
Doodle Jump and StarRide - both great "keep jumping!" games similar to Orsinal bunny bell flash game
Crayon Physics - make the ball get to the stars by drawing items that fall or hit the ball

More "hardcore" games to check out (3d person action or rpg)
Terminator (this is the only one I've played so far from here down, love it but controls may not sit with you...action shooter game)
Battlefield Hour of Heroes
Hero of Sparta
Assassin's Creed
Zenonia (apparently a Zelda clone everyone loves, bought it but haven't played it yet.)
Carjack Streets - top down GTA clone

There are so many games it's insane.

iLounge's video shows the difference between the 3GS and 2nd gen Touch is much smaller than Vs the 3G.
Given the Touch's CPU is clocked at 533MHz (412 for the 3G and 600 for the 3GS) that's not exactly a surprise.

The differences v 3GS will start appearing if (when?) devs start leveraging the SGX. Also, when using a lot of memory.

Just finished registering and doing all that boring stuff so ill start downloading some of that.

Anyone know why Topple 1 isnt on the store anymore ? Also any good protective case suggestions?

To probably boost sales of Topple 2 ;)

I noticed the same thing even though I have it from when it was available.

They also now sell the original tap tap revenge for 99 cents when it use to be free.

I love to always give recommendations to new iPhone/Touch users so here's the games I love. There's bound to be something here you like -

Touch based space management (at least that's what I call them)
Flight Control
Harbor Master

RTS (turn based)
Mecho Wars
Vanguard Storm
Uniwar

Tower defense (like desktop tower defense)
Geo Defense
Star Defense

Puzzle
Azkend
Bejeweled 2
Peggle
Edge
Word Jong
Drop7
Zen Bound

Action
Zenonia
Zombieville
Carjack Streets

Sports
9 innings
Baseball '09

I've been on the fence for a while on buying Zenonia...
What's the consensus on this game? I'm reading comparisons to A Link to the Past... Really? That's a mighty fine compliment for any action rpg to get...

TDD you should try The Creeps and Defender Chronicles. And in Action, Underworlds is very nice though far too short. And you're probably missing Space Deadbeef (awesome free shooter).

Also Peggle is not really puzzle (unless you're willing to call Pazatjo a puzzle too) and Ancient Frog is missing.

Finally, I note a disturbing lack of Eliss, Edge, Monospace and Strategery.

And, One-Dot Enemies, which should be in all game lists.

It's not a zelda, but it's pretty good. The D-Pad works ok (nothing amazing thoug), the quest tracker is a good idea, ... overall it's a good game even ignoring the dearth of ARPGs.

It's a VERY lengthy ARPG with leveling and skills and all that good stuff. The story is ok as the translation is really weak, but the gist gets across well enough. The controls are on screen meaning your fingers manipulate an on-screen d-pad and on-screen buttons. For some, the lack of a tactile response is a game breaker, but if you are willing to learn how to use it, the game is rewarding overall and such a game would easily be 29.99 or more on the DS or PSP. It's quite good despite being a little rough around the edges.

The game has its problems, but they are hardly a deal breaker. I like the game quite a bit, and there is a surprising amount of stuff to do in the game and a whole hell of a lot of stuff to collect. The story is decent and some of the dialog is quite funny and witty. It's definitely worth the money, in my opinion. What's also really great about the game is that it doesn't suck the battery life out of my iPod Touch. I played for four hours straight the other day and still had over 20% of my battery left from a 90% full battery.

My friend and I are looking for a good scrabble game that we can play multiplayer from different states.

Both Scrabble and Lexulous support Facebook integration via their respective Facebook apps. Has anyone used one or both, and can anyone recommend which one is the better way to go?

-Scrabble is $5, but the Facebook Scrabble app sucked at first. Maybe it's better now, not sure. But we'll be playing on both Facebook and via iPhone

-Lexulous is $4, and the Facebook app is the well-established, immensely popular app that used to be called Scrabulous until they got sued. The game is now slightly different, but basically the same thing.

Help!

Ok, so I've spent about 20 minutes playing a handful of Edge levels a little while ago. The game is so amazing. Everyone needs to play it if you haven't. I'm not going to say that no two levels feel the same, but plenty of levels have very distinct themes and play styles that I tip my hat to the developer(s) for coming up with a lot of these awesome distinct levels. It really makes you think and is a lot of fun...besides, the end of level animation where the cube stretches out is so beautiful and never gets old.

Edge rocks.

It would be great if someone made an official "why the iphone rocks (for gaming)" thread and put it up descriptions and screenshots of the best games per gafs consensus.

I ordered my 32GB iPhone today; it's going to take a while to get here, and the wait will be tough...especially when I browse this thread.

Been playing Castle of Magic throughout the day today. One of the best (if not THE best) platformers on the system, IMO. Great graphics and sound, very colorful, and runs great!

Only $5.99. Get it now!

I was thinking of buying this, but they pulled it from the App Store like 3 times in as many days. Makes me think there is some kind of horrible bug or something.

I picked this up, too. I only played two levels so far, but it is a ton of fun. Awesome and fun platforming action like you'd expect, and a nice funny atmosphere. I like when enemies smack against the screen or the main character gets a power up (Robiiin Hoooooooood! :D)

It's definitely worth $5.99.

RE: D is quite weird. I played it for about 30 minutes and the controls are pretty bad. Maybe I'll like it better after I get further.

Knights Onrush is an awesome mix of tower defense and defend your castle. This might be my new Fieldrunners.

Star Defense is awesome for tower defense junkies.

Car Jack City seemed pretty awesome for only a buck.

Zenonia is a pretty solid ARPG. Reminds me a lot of Secret of Mana and 2D Zeldas. Not nearly as good as those, but it's still the best the iPhone has to offer in this type of genre.

Gameloft's Castle of Magic is completely fantastic based on the 15 minutes I put into it last night before going to bed. DEFINITELY recommended.

1 vs 100 game that they dropped to 99 cents last night is all messed up on the 3GS. The whole game runs like it's fastforwarding :lol

unless it was like this before? in which case, wtf?

I guess they didn't limit the game speed using the internal clock. Which is normal on PC like platforms. Now the gamespeed is locked to the framerate.. Which is higher on 3GS. FAIL

I finally put some time into it after weeks of having it and the first thing I can say is that the controls take some getting used to. It's fairly solid otherwise but I have to say the names of the characters annoy the shit out of me. I'm the type that never changes the names of characters in RPGs but this one... no, I want to change the names of every single person in the game. Why adjectives!? That's so obnoxious to me.

While app's can be tested on OS 3.0, only now can we test app's on the new 3GS hardware, so yeah you are going to run into a few iffy games for the next few weeks or so.

Not helping that apple's turnaround for new app's is ever growing to over 2 weeks to be accepted now, patches included.
