That link takes me to the free version (maybe that's your intent).
It was. I always try to link to the lite version if there is one. People should always try before they buy if they can no matter what the price.

Can anyone speak to the quality of the overall Knights Onrush game? I played the demo and thought it was cool, but it also seemed really frantic, like all you could do was spaz-out with your index finger for 30 seconds until the round was over. Does the full game involve more strategy / variety?

And whats the consensus on the "Word" Games? Bookworm, Scrabble, Word Fu, Wurdle, etc.. Is any particular one of them considered more fun than the others?

?

Words game are almost completely an individual thing and they are almost all some variation of boggle and scrabble. There is a flash game on pop caps website to play bookworm if you want to and it's certainly a good game although It's hard to know what you are looking for. Reading a few reviews seems the best approach to me.

http://www.popcap.com/gamepopup.php?theGame=bookworm

But then I would say the same about Knights OnRush. If the demo wasn't enough to sell you on the game I wouldn't purchase it. It's sorta that simple imo but maybe that's just me.

Not buying any ap above $3 has been my policy and it is working out great! I get all these sales.

I made one exception for MLB and I'm thinking about buying beejive but I think I've conditioned myself to not buy anything that "expensive" on the phone so I'm having difficulty pulling the trigger.

Ok, just checking. Thanks.

Again, I agree with the stupid race to 99c. It doesn't help, I guess, that I only bought it at 99c. Actually, to my defence, I have kind of bumped up my App price buying. I am no longer unwilling to buy around $5 apps (or more), if they are stable, look nice, and have good developer support.

Something else I fear is that developers will mask a supported app by charging 99c at first, but then subscription in-app purchases for updates. I really like the simply model of buy. Of course, there can be little incentive to improve an app one you have made a lot of sales, but it seems the mentality isn't really like that for many good apps.

And to follow up on lawblob: Scrabble is pretty good. It's 100% like a game of Scrabble, as you play AI, who obviously doesn't choose the best option (at least on normal) and you have a limited number of 'best words' (like a smart bomb), but is a good time waster. I just wish there were a dictionary built-in for definitions, as one of the main reasons I play is to learn new words. It's kind of a pain to quit out to look up a word. I highly recommend Scrabble.

(for the record, I have the Euro version of Scrabble, without Facebook support or the dictionary - still not sure if the US version dictionary has definitions or just a word list. I have multiple languages and a more pleasant looking design).

At this point i cant see myself spending mor than 99C for a game on the appstore....sry

I sort of take the opposite approach. Originally I was very anti the idea of DLC for a lot of reasons but now I think that approach is probably the best way to maintain a stable model for a dev if they have to essentially give away the game at volume in certain cases. This would only be viable once more people upgrade to 3.0 though (only like 1% of the market has 3.0 according to some link I saw a couple of days ago right now) and more units are sold with 3.0 already being the default OS.

Your loss, I guess.

Apps I have been glad or would have been glad to pay full price for:

Tetris (I paid $8-$10)
Yahtzee (I paid $5)
Scrabble (I paid $4)
The Creeps (Although I paid $1)
Geo Defense (Although I paid $1)
BeeJive (I paid $10)
Deep Green (I can't remember what I paid)

As I said, if the app is nice looking, solid, and has that 'care' from the developer (meaning they update it with care, and for free), I don't mind paying.

Yeah, inwardly, I think it's the best way to get an app noticed, but to also have decent support, but I REALLY like the simplicity of just 'buying' something, and that's that. I don't want a really good app turned into a subscription model. I guess it's kind of like regular applications for the Mac, though (major updates cost). I appreciate the cleanup of the store, though - hopefully it means we don't get one hundred versions (each in a different language) of the same app.

I thought 3.0 was around 44% of the iPhone userbase? That was for web access, which I would've figured to transfer more or less to overall userbase. Maybe not. Is that 1% value referring to iphone 3.0 marketshare in the mobile department?

Not really, i spent most of my handheld gaming time on ds and psp - my ipod touch is a nice addition but there isnt much stuff i qould pay more than 2-3 bucks - if there would be more quality rpgs i would be willing to spend more, but other than that..... even without spending much i still gotlike 2 pages full of games on my touch :-)

You are correct. It's like 1% of touch users that I should have been referring to. The original news link I read on this story was a bit confusing.

As far as what people are willing to buy or not buy in this thread price wise that's sort of a moot point to me and is really not worth discussing imo. Until Apple fixes some fundamental flaws in their structure there are probably a lot of people who wait for sales and price drops to buy things. It is what it is. I wait for sales in some cases. I buy game I want at full price in some cases. I'm fine with both positions

I sort of view the app store in stages. The first stage was from launch until about a month or two ago when 99 cents really sort of became an issue imo.

We are now in phase two which will last awhile until apple makes some fundamental changes and institues some stricter policies structure wise related to pricing and store structure. (I don't mean in restricting apps)

Geo Defense for $1 is a value of epic proportions. Thats like 10 cents per-hour of gameplay. :D

Just started development of my second app, an ambitious 2D game. Wish me good luck. :)

Good luck!!! I'm hoping it is an ambitious 2D Platformer. Come on... You know it makes sense.:D

I've completely forgotten what your first game was... Refresh my memory please!

ARGH

Okay I'm not buying iPhone games unless they are on sale from now on.

I just bought Knights on Rush for like 5-6 bucks the other day.. now its $1?

Argh.
This is what fucks over the app store, and just when you get use to gameloft only doing minor sales they throw everything down to minimum price too! but their games are a few months old now.

Unless it's an app I seriously want right then and can't go a day without it, this is the only time I now pay full price.

I think what pisses me off is Knights OnRush was supposedly on sale to celebrate 3.0

Then they drop it to $.99

RETARDED!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways..

Is that Gladiator Goliath whatever game good? Its 2nd top paid download and is .99

Also saw that Asphalt 4 was $.99 and was considering that too.

It wasn't a game, it was an app to download / create / play guitar tabs. It's been a nice introduction to the iPhone dev world and it paid for the initial investment, plus my new macbook (the mini has been donated to the family because they were taking it as hostage anyway) and some extra. Currently going major redesign to take advantage of OS 3.0 features.

But now I'm ready for the real reason I got into that -- finally creating a game. I've been doing tedious SAP / Java / dotNet stuff for far too long. :D

But we are close to a price drop, I can feel it

...don't hate me for waiting, blame what the App Store has become!

I think it's the first full fledged game that made me rethink having rpgs and other full fledged games on the system. Awesome sprite art, light hearted story that breaks the 4th wall often. Fun button smashy time, with nice items and customization, and actually can get quite challenging sometimes.

You never answered my last email :D
Still looking for a dev?

Got Knights Onrush. Can't play now but hope its good.
Is it pretty much Defend Your Castle?
You start each area with a plain castle with a wooden gate, you use the touchscreen to flick or pinch enemies away but it get's extremely frentic! you can upgrade your castle so you can use extra weapons (by touching them) to aid your defense.

It's not too bad, I find it quite hard especially when the game sticks 20 enemies on the screen and you have to flick them all away quickly, the game is default to normal but I stuck it on easy for now, see how you feel about it.

I just bought Music IQ, which is free for a few days.

It's basically a music quiz for your own library - plays your song with a decreasing score until you get it. Snazzy presentation, and a neat look at the ability of 3.0 (only) to use your music library. Click for link.

I accidentally bought JukeBox Quix (1.29) instead of this - I was browsing at the difference, and decided to get Music IQ, but I clicked this, and since I had recently logged in, it bought it :/

Are you running OS 3.0? I've had at least one game with some "drag and drop" mechanics that will not longer allow me to drag in OS 3.0 myself (Briscas).

Actually, now that you mention it, I had photoboard, kind of a multitouch 'surface' implementation that I had to delete because on 3.0, it had a permanent touch on the left corner. That is, if I used one finger it though I had two on the screen, and if I used two, it thought I had three.

With stuff like mass effect i have to almost double tap to target baddies. Things like that. Its pretty weird. I was playing Knights on rush, works fine but i cant move the 5 buttons in the help section things like that.

so I just broke down and purchased peggle. never played the game before. holy shit, why did I do this, I can't put it down now. Kind of kicking myself for not getting it when it was .99, but so far it seems to be worth the $4.99.

I love my 3GS, still so many games too catch up on. Also picked up Topple 2 for $.99

i got it for .99 never played the game before and im addicted. i finished the adventure mode in in like a day and working on the challenges. i think if i got it ant 4.99 i would be happy but at .99 its great. if they release peggle 2 with new adventure stages and stuff ill buy it day 1.

Don't. It's not a bad game, but it's decent and that's about it. If there weren't so many awesome games at the $.99 point I'd say go for it, but as it is I can't see myself recommending it.

:lol It's a dollar. Who cares? If you play it for an hour and delete it, it's still worth it.
