No GAF love for Archon? I'm the only one that's posted impressions so far. Weird, because it's a damn awesome game (the controls leave a bit to be desired though).

Holy shit! I love Archon. I'm definitely going to have to pick this up. I'm a huge fan of the classic video game. One of the greatest games of all time.

$0.99 is definitely my threshold. I will buy anything for $0.99.

Downloading Hero of Sparta right now.

Just got my first iPhone and so far have:

Peggle
Bejewled 2
Flight Control
Fieldrunners
Zombieville USA
StoneLoops of Jurassica
Tap Tap Revenge

Really enjoying the gaming aspect of the 3GS, did not expect to enjoy it this much.

Boy do I really hate ads that appear in games that I've bought. ngmoco:) games and AdMob ads in particular annoy me. I've managed to block all the AdMob ads (although some apps using them detect that I'm blocking them, so those don't work, but not the ngmoco ones yet.

Hmmm... How do you block ads?

Same here, except I had a first gen iphone-never really had any interest in gaming on it. Now that I upgraded to a 3GS, I puchased 6 games over the past 2 days :lol

Martin Jajam's App Store Review said:
Having been the programmer for this product, and having my paycheck bounce, I have a moral objection for this being on here. I was cheated out of pay and credits on this product. This product is in legal dispute and I'm hoping to have it removed from the app store a.s.a.p.!

I looked at it because of your post—old time Archon fan—and was a bit appalled at the visual presentation. The aesthetic reminds me of 1990s pre-rendered CG. Killer Instinct didn't age very well.

But then I saw this guy's review.

I love Archon so I'll probably break down and buy it anyway, but my design nerve might twitch a bit.

Whats the average battery life of the 3gS suppsoed to be? I used it alot today. Wasnt at full charge but it went to red in 5 to 6 ish hours today. (Mostly Apps and surfing the net).

My battery life has been terrible thus far. I'm going to call about it tomorrow and take it back if they tell me to. Even when I turn off wifi and 3g the battery life on the 3gs is significantly worse than the I original iPhone I had. On my old phone I never had to turn off wifi either. I just checked the battery estimates from apple and what they are saying it can do versus my experience so far is laughable.

http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html

300 hours standby time... 30 hours of music... yeah right! With everything off my battery drains about 10% per hour on standby. After listening to a podcast for an hour my battery drained 15%. I'm definitely calling about it tomorrow.

Okay.. I'm in love with Hero of Sparta..

Its so simple yet so engaging.. Im playing it more then I normally do with DS/PSP Games.. :lol

Man I have a marketing job in the games industry but would love to do something like that for an iPhone/iTouch game as another job..

This device has changed everything for me. I also now have oodles of respect for the people that develop these.

I've been having solid battery life out of my 3GS so far, but I have a friend who is in the same boat as you. He went to the Genius bar today, and they told him to try restoring the phone from a fresh install, not a back-up, as the back-up might bring some bad elements along that are causing the problem. He had more direct info, but that's what they said in a nutshell. I think he's trying it tonight and then recharging.

Anyone else with a 3GS feel like the new coating on the screen causes a fair amount of discomfort when playing "dpad heavy" games like, say, Isotope? Or am I just a total simp?

Sometimes I have felt a little discomfort, sometimes I don't. I definitely know what you're talking about though.

I've been hearing a lot about a bug in iPhone software 3.0 that causes any push features to drain the battery like a mofo. It's evidently not limited to any particular hardware version (I currently have a 2G that was dying in about eight hours of standby), nor is it affecting every single unit. It's apparently pretty random, but definitely wide-spread.

From what I gathered, nothing else matters, just disable all forms of push and set fetch to like 15 minutes if you want to be more time-sensitive. It definitely fixed it for me.

This will also fix your phone being much warmer to the touch than usual as well as remove those extra visual hiccups in most games.

Hope it works!

Canda too. Only $1 too. Whick kinda worries me actually, I was expecting this to be sort of a 'big' game. It just installed now so I'll check it out.
Impressions when you get the chance?

Ill download at $1 but if its meh then I wont.

It's very good so far. Very much a spiritual successor to Cannon Fodder on Amiga, which is a great thing - only thing missing is the super catchy intro song. But the graphics are great (explosions look really great) and controls are very nice too, although you have to be a bit careful as you cover some of the screen with your finger as you move around. Cheesy humor is there as well.

*edit* the only 'bad' thing I can say about it is that the screen doesn't scroll at 60FPS like I was hoping it would for some reason. It's instead rock solid 30FPS (on Iphone 3GS)

I recommend Grunts to anyone who was interested by it. It's a lot of fun, and I like that you can play horizontal or vertical just by holding it whichever way. The story is told with humor that is cute but not really funny, and the gameplay is awesome. Some things are still not clear to me, for example the tutorial paragraphs went by pretty quick and talked about hitting a sniper button and looking around when there was no sniper button I could find, but overall it's simply touch where you want to walk and touch who you want to shoot. It's very fun and the graphics and animation are very nice. I'm surprised this is valued at 99 cents by the developer and not something more like 2.99.

One annoying thing is that there is a bug that resets your volume whenever you complete a level. I had it super low and everytime I completed a mission the music blasted back up. Not cool.

"Are you ready?"

Disappointed by Knights - I was kind of hoping for more than a Defend the Castle clone.

I also feel dirty playing Hero of Sparta. Stoneloops though it great, even if it is such a straight up clone of Luxor. First come first serve I guess.

Stoneloops is awesome, for some reason I just keep coming back to it.

I would argue it's better and a more complete actual game than defend the castle but its clearly in that genre. I'm not sure why you expected it not to be...

Yeah, Knights is kind of too frantic. I secretly don't like it because it's actually too hard.

I think it's just me being so used to your standard tower defense games. I don't really want to be flicking up dudes all the time, I'd rather most of it be automated with archers :D

Fair enough in that the genre clearly isn't for everybody although within the genre I would argue it's a far better game than the other castle defense games on the iphone.

I'm surprised about this too. The game has higher production quality than anything I can think of that debuted at $1 at app store. I hope it's not because you can finish the whole game in 15 minutes or something like that.

Yeah, that is pretty annoying. I think you have to set the sound volume in game's settings, and not touch the Iphone's volume control - only then it work consistently.

I thank Twitter for making me addicted to WordFu as of today. I get friends who keep getting better scores and I have the need to one-up them.

ngmoco:)

I go with the letter N, the letter G, and "moh-coh" and then I smile wide for the :).

I actually don't do the smile thing

Ok, sometimes, but only as a joke

Sad thing is, I was going to say something very similar.

Smile and all.

That's actually pretty good, if you've been doing lots of surfing the net and apps and it wasn't a full charge to start. Games in particular can really use up lots of energy, but anything using internet connections makes it suck hard.

Sounds like me.
I charged to about 60% before heading out around noon today. I barely used it the thing, 3G off, no wifi connection, maybe check it every 15 minutes for time, a couple of photos and a couple for 2 minute games sessions, and it died when I got back by 7.

Before 3.0, I could go 36-48 hours. I have push on (for BeeJive), but I'm going to do a test. See if it survives doing nothing over night. And then seeing what happens with push off.

I hate Apple for charging $10 for an update that iPhone people got for free. Seriously, wtf? That's such bullshit. I'm still on 2.2.1 or whatever.

Question: I recently jailbroke/breaked/brikkend my Touch.

I'm assuming updating to 3.0 will wipe that out, won't it?

Probably seems like a dumb question, but I'm unsure how iPhone/Touch handles the whole OS update thing.

Seriously, don't support Apple and don't upgrade your Touch.
I have a 1st gen Touch and had to pay $10 last year just so I can use their App Store and PAY THEM TO BUY THEIR APPS. That's like asking me to pay them so I can enter their store to buy their stuffs.

I was very mad last year but was forced to do so. I will not do it again this year, especially the upgrade is pretty minimal. In the end, this will only hurt Apple themselves because they are segregating the Touch and Phone market, and developers can't devote themselves with 3.0 development as that will leave millions of Touch users behind (as reported that less than 1% of Touch users have upgraded to 3.0)
