you can play a free flash version here. it's kinda fun. I think I'm gonna buy it.

There it is. First thing I thought was it looked familiar, it was either a flash game I had played or I just remembered it from iPhone coverage on random sites/forums. I definitely played it. It's pretty fun, but I'm gonna pass [for once!]

I realized with Pirate Bay and playing games I already own that I have more than enough of these casual type, quick play. new-session-every-time type games. There are tons of them, and most of them are super fun and super cheap. I can't have them all, and it's pointless to do so. From now on I'm looking out for more developed gameplay experiences, on the level of Castle of Magic, Terminator, Zenonia, Need for Speed, that kind of thing. The type of game I can progress in, beat and then feel accomplished versus playing here and there for 2 minutes, deciding it's fun and replacing it the next day.

I'm trying!

Someone will build a 3GS only app, it's only a matter of time. It segments the market, yes, but it also will gain a lot of notoriety and interest just by being the first game to fully exploit the power of the 3GS.

Imagine the hype that could be built around that.

I figured when the userbase was large enough (atleast 1 million users already!), they can advertise it as the 'most advanced app in the appstore - requires the power of the 3Gs!'. Possibly best graphics on the system or whatever. Would make a bit of news and would sell some out of curiosity - perhaps enough to warrant not having the 3G buyers of a decidedly average game that otherwise wouldn't get much attention. It's a bit early for that yet, of course. Or is it? Touch arcade are already reporting/hyping a mysterious game trailer and speculating whether it will be the first 3Gs-only game.

It's not too early in my opinion. The 1 million sales was from the opening weekend, it could be much higher by now. And once a game like we're talking about is ready, the 3GS userbase will be looking really good.

I think he meant too early to have finished one. Developers didn't find out about the 3GS until Apple told everyone else, less than a month ago. To already have a game nearing completion, the developer would have already had to have had experience programming OpenGL shaders and hope that translates well to OpenGL ES 2.0. And of course it'd be rather hard to make an amazing game really pushing the system's graphics in only a month.

The main TD games to check out are:

Geodefense (hardest)
Star Defense (most polished)
Fieldrunners (most open-ended)
The Creeps (most variety)

should probably just get all of them.

Sentinel and Sentinel 2 smoke most of those games. Geo Defense is another kick ass one.

I stayed up 2 hours later than I wanted to last night playing Star Defense. After originally hating on it, I found it to be kind of fun.

I also tried out iSR last night, and it seemed really promising. I kept thinking, "this would really go great with some techno synced up to it with the background bumping in harmony to the beat," kind of like WipEout HD's Zone mode.

Anyone tried Big Top 10? It seems like it would be great, but I'm just wondering if anyone has impressions before I bite.

I also just caved in on Doom Resurrection, Droplitz, Jungle Bloxx, and Pirate Bay.. I'm on an App Store addiction right now. Dammit. :lol

And for the fifth, one-line paragraph, does anyone know what happened to Puzzle Quest Part 3? I haven't heard anything about PQ since the second update hit.

Seek and Spell... (the word game which uses the GPS) is out

seeknspell_homeshot.png

Seek ’n Spell uses your GPS to create a new type of game. The object is to gather virtual letters and create words. Seek ’n Spell is played in parks and open outdoor spaces. The fun really begins when you challenge a friend!

Link ($.99) [for the 4th July weekend only]

Take Two owns the rights to X-Com. There have been rumors going around for years that Irrational's making a new one.

Take 2 ? :(

I was hoping EA. They might have done something with it for the iPhone.

Okay thanks, but this is from the same Dr. from the brain age games and it's made by Namco. So it should be pretty similar to the Brain Age games?

Thanks for any impressions if you decide to bite. :)

Just played the demo for Castle of Magic and holy it's fun. Power ups, double jumps, and parachute floats lol. Im def getting the full game now. Like most iPhone games touch screen controls is kinda iffy, but it's def looks like a must by

It is so much fun. You get more power ups as the game goes on, for the first few levels it's only 2 and I was thinking that's kinda cheap. Anyway, it's a really solid platform game and I just beat a boss that required a pretty interesting strategy. Everyone should have this game.

Okay DrawRace is pretty damn cool and a clever game. Much like Flight Control a really original concept that is perfectly suited for the iphone.

My only complaint is that I wish it had online leagues you could setup and more localized leaderboards like Flight Control but its still a cool little casual game. I hope it gets big sales.

I can't figure out if that means that the game hasn't even been submitted yet, or if there's some sort of a snag in the App Store.

It's been submitted. It has to be some sort of approval snafu that they are trying to get worked out with Apple. Probably last minute bugs and they don't want to be booted to the back of the line for such a high profile title so Apple is working with them to get new builds and get it approved quickly.

Pure speculation on my part but I've seen it happen before on the console side.

Maybe they got threatened with an AO rating, and are trying to remove some of the more gratuitous cutscenes to pass content certification? Just look at the chest hair on that Rolando on the left.... filthy.

Figured this was/is the best place to ask: is there a port (or clone) of any of the Every Extend games on iPhone? Doesn't really matter which version, I just figure it would be an ideal portable game to play on it.

just got an iphone and man i'm overwhelmed with all the apps to choose from!

Guess i'll start perusing this thread to find out which are the "best of the best" iPhone games

Edit:
Wait.

3.0 only?? What a drag. I only wanted to upgrade my phone to 3.0, not my Touch as well. Can anyone with a 3G iPhone give me a heads up as to how it's running?
