I'll second that and add a video!

YES ANOTHER EXCUSE TO WATCH THIS VIDEO.

Um, is the Konami sale not happening in the US? I thought it would be on by now...MGS:Touch is old, discount it to inject some life back into its legs. It's not that I'm cheap and won't spend $8, it's that I'm not hugely interestd in MGS:T. At 3 bucks I'll snag it up even with minimal interest.

Space Invaders looks nice - what with all the activity on that end, compounded by the fact that Namco's got an active iPhone division now, I wouldn't be surprised to see if they respond with some kind of "Extreme Galaga" title as well (they are making a Gaplus follow-up on XBLA I believe, hopefully better than the recent disappointing Galaga Legions or whatever it was..)

What the hell! Flight of Amazon Queen was ported on iphone last month...

Funnily enough, this game too uses the same trackpad movement for cursor, just like MI.
You had me until you mentioned the trackpad cursor. That single handedly ruined Monkey Island for me. I regret spending $8 for a game that controls like @$$.

Picked up Zombies vs. Sheep today.

Ehh, its a nice little game for 99 cents, a fun shooting gallery with achievements / leaderboards via Open Feint; which is surprisingly deep and feature-rich. There's even friggin' chat rooms inside Open Feint. The game does have some slowdown problems on my 3G, which I find odd. Its fun for what it is, and if you're looking for a shooting gallery game with a fresh aesthetic and achievements, there are worse ways to spend a buck.

I still don't see the issue with the controls.

A Chu Chu Rocket clone just got released

Wasn't there an epic post somewhere on NeoGAF that showed all the iPhone games with pictures and descriptions? I have a friend with an iPhone who'd like to see it. :)

Gameloft Live and Crystal SDK Offer New iPhone Social Networks
posted July 24th, 2009 11:39 PM EDT by arn in News

We were pretty excited when we first heard that developers were beginning to offer various Xbox Live-like social networks. These networks promise to offer players the ability to follow online achievements, play against friends, chat and more. Over time, however, the number of networks has blossomed with many of the major developers offering their own version. Chillingo and Gameloft are the latest companies to announce/launch their network.

Just a couple of weeks ago, Chillingo announced CrystalSDK which is an open social network platform that promises "a host of innovative features", though no specifics have been revealed. We asked Chillingo's Chris Byatte how Crystal SDK is going to be different from existing networks. Byatte was unable to give details yet but said, "We've listened to player feedback and aim to bring new standards of usability plus we'll be addressing the developer community with A1 support and feedback."

Meanwhile, just tonight Gameloft released a version update to Uno [$4.99] which adds Push notifications as well as a much enhanced Gameloft Live feature which also offers friends, trophies, chat and personal messaging for players.

Gameloft has made no announcements on whether or not they would open up their network to other developers, but we'd suspect not.

Meanwhile, we've been reluctant to offer much of an in depth analysis of each system since we don't feel they actually affect consumer decisions yet. At this stage, no one is going choose one game over another based on the social network they support. Here's a list of the various options available. (Crystal SDK is not yet available, and Nmogco's PlusPlus is not yet open to 3rd party developers.)

* AGON Online
* Crystal SDK (Chillingo)
* Gameloft Live
* Geocade
* Open Feint
* Plus+ (Ngmoco)
* Scoreloop

The decision lies in developer's hands at the moment, though some we've spoken to have been reluctant to make the "wrong" decision at this early stage. Meanwhile, many other developers have already taken steps to adopt one of the various networks available.

We need ONE unified social network, not 50 scattered across every major developer. There really is no point to even include these features if it's not going to be unified.

It is what it is.

Apple didn't take the lead here so you end up with a PC situation where its left for the market to take its own cue and have an evolution process.

Ooo, I think I'll make me an online service, kinda like Xbox Live with online stat tracking , achievements and avatars! Then I'll license it to anyone who wants to use it.

Nothing wrong in using Xfire, Steam and GFWL all in one game! :lol Yeah it sucks a bit, I hope some of them die in a fire or something and we get a few good services which do well and are worth keeping around. I own like 2 games which use openfeint and when I tried to sign up for it in one of those TD games it just hangs and fails. Not a very good method.

I nabbed DDR on the konami sale after the lite version convinced me it was good fun.

Skipping MGS though, the demo was boring as hell.

I tried emanga which was released recently for free and it showed some promise. It comes with an iTunes like software which can organise and sync up your library. Unfortunately it has some weird reliance on some weird format like .manga or something. it won't even add anything I have to the library.

It comes with software to 'build' files in this format but it doesn't work and even if it did I'm not going through my library and converting and organising everything to be the way that this app wants it.

A cool idea they have is mangacasts, there's only a few so far but the idea is you subscribe to these feeds which release various manga chapters. Cool idea but for poor selection, the only way I could get anything in the right format sadly.

Looks like I will have to ditch this unless I figure out a great way to get the right format made

.manga files are just really zip files in disguise. Reading stuff on the pc works, but crashes on the iPhone. So yeah, looking at other options right now. Unfortunately there are no free trials for either ComicZeal or MyComics, but those seem to be useful for reading manga with.

I got $40 worth of itunes cred for $30 from Target so I got Monkey Island and it's fantastic, the controls are fine and the game is timeless. I'm lovin it all over again.

ComicZeal is great, I've been using it for months. Highly recommended.

Is Konami supposed to put their iphone games on sale? I still don't see the sale someone mentioned on the previous page.

I don't see anything changing either. I wanna pick up a few of them too..

I just downloaded Racer. Pretty cool game for $0.99!.

It's quite fun, but goddamnit it just made me feel a bit sick because the car is 'meant' to be supposed to move forward, but you keep getting cars 'falling' from the top so it fucks up my head. I just had to stop playing it right now because of the dizziness. And this might have been the first time I feel like this in the last.. 10 years? And I play games on a daily basis :/

Even then, I completely recommend it. Quite fun game and for $0.99 is a better deal than many other games out there.

I don't know if it has been mentioned in this thread yet, but Words With Friends is the most popular iPhone game at my work right now.

I love this thread, so much great info.

Could someone recommend some sports games. Not racing, I have that covered, but in particular -

Baseball
Soccer

Golf - I assume Tiger Woods is what to go with.

Thanks for all in the great recommendations in this thread, keep it up!

I am also having a blast with Racer. It's got online leaderboards and is very addicting. I have not experienced any sickness or anything.

Yeah, I've been playing it again now (I'm Rank 15 in the Global Ranking for Normal) and didn't have any sickness side effects. I guess it could be because I was really hungry (it was right before dinner) and I already felt a bit dizzy, lol :lol

If your friends don't have it enabled they won't see anything though.

not true, everyone I spammed saw it and questioned what the emoticons were.

one guy has an older iphone as well so its not a 3GS thing, might be a 3.0 thing though.

so what are your scores?

I kinda suck at it, with a measley 69th place, not that I've been trying too hard.

I bought car mania thinking it sounded and looked fun from a preview on toucharcade and even at 59p I regret buying it. similar concept to things like flight control but being on roads makes it really dull and repetitive

I already kind of mentioned it, but I finally got Monkey Island for the IPhone last night. This is my first experience ever with series and I got to say I love it. Was playing until 2am and it is indeed hilarious. I also have to say that I have no issues with the control scheme. I can see why people get hung on it, but it doesn't detract from the experience at all.

Also, being able to switch from remake to original with a single swipe is neat, and shaking the IPhone for a tip is very neat.

Really? A bunch of reviews on iTunes say the emoji apps are bad because they're friends can't see them on their iPhones. Good to know.

C'mon. You know better than to trust any reviews on the iTunes store.

In my defense, I've never been interested in getting emoji enabled and just remember reading this by randomly browsing the app store. If I wanted an app, I certainly don't rely on the app store reviews for research.

But you're right, I'm ashamed.

I enabled emoji a while ago from an app that did nothing more (it was taken down after about a day). As far as I know, emoji were added from 2.0 onwards, and even if they aren't enabled they are still there, so you can read them.

As for text messages, part of it is reliant on the carrier. If I send a text message to certain other carriers the icon can get through. If they don't have an iPhone, again, depending on the carrier, the entire message may fail or they just get gibberish.
