I enabled emoji a while ago from an app that did nothing more (it was taken down after about a day). As far as I know, emoji were added from 2.0 onwards, and even if they aren't enabled they are still there, so you can read them.

As for text messages, part of it is reliant on the carrier. If I send a text message to certain other carriers the icon can get through. If they don't have an iPhone, again, depending on the carrier, the entire message may fail or they just get gibberish.
Oh I see.

This thread made me curious so I downloaded DoodleStar (fun simple game btw) and enabled emoji. Pretty fun stuff and I sent a message with some emojis to three iPhone users and they all got it. I'm pretty excited by something so simple, one thing I liked about Blackberry Measenger was being able to reply with a thumbs down, etc. So this is a cool addition.

The horrified face one is really funny to me buy I don't think my friends are as amused as I am :/

I'm very suprised touch K.O is not £4 or something, £1.79 seems like a great deal for what I seen of the game.

Going to wait and see first.

Golf - I assume Tiger Woods is what to go with.

I'd say it's Tiger Woods by a landslide. Played all the other golf games and nothing has come close IMO. But I'm still waiting for a *good* "3 tap" control golf game in the vein of Hot Shots. Let's Golf looks attractive, but it just didn't do it for me.

Lmfao.

That was amazing. I don't get how your friend goes from calling them emoticons things to emoji, some googling must have gone down. Expect retaliation soon.

played a bit of touch KO.

can defnitly say that for $3 it's a good deal. it's simple and to the point. plus anyone that puts shorts with TIGsource on em is golden in my book.

after owning my touch though for roughly a month i can say that it is very annoying how damn hot my touch 2G gets when i run 3d stuff... wondering if the phones get hot as well.

I had problems with my 3g getting hot while it was jailbroken, but not my 3GS which is also jailbroken.

so what are your scores?

I kinda suck at it, with a measley 69th place, not that I've been trying too hard.

I bought car mania thinking it sounded and looked fun from a preview on toucharcade and even at 59p I regret buying it. similar concept to things like flight control but being on roads makes it really dull and repetitive
22902 points. Too bad the game is sometimes way too unfair, getting you surrounded by cars and no chances of surviving. But whatever.. it's fun anyway :D

Wow did they just copy all the levels from the real game? I recognized the ones in the video.

Baseball Slugger: Home Run Race 3d is awesome!
Yeah this, at least if you don't mind an arcadey game. If you want regular baseball PowerPros Touch is pretty good.

Words With Friends was already mentioned on this page but just bringing it up again for the word fun. So far I've run into (and created) cock, cunt, twat, cum, and poon among others, but not this:

And my latest game just started out with gayer and boy.
edit-now it's bad gayer boy...now bad boy going gayer

Am I screwed in Monkey Island? The game autosaved on the map screen (I think), but when i opened it up again its on the scene that appears when you run into a pirate on the road...only theres no pirate and no Threepwood.

Cant see anyway to leave the screen! Any ideas?

That sounds very iffy. Try starting a new game and then exit it and open your current save.

Get's quite hot for me too on the bottom half of the device mostly, must be where the chip is.

Anyone know if emoji works if I (v3.0) sends it to a v2 user?
'course it works, emojis were already available back then.

I think it works as long as they're on firmware 2.2(maybe 2.2.1) or later.
Should be 2.2 as that's when the emoji keyboard was added.

Touch KO sucks. The animation is pretty bad.

It definitely feels like a 3.0 game, though. Custom soundtracks that pop up with the song name, artist, and album, career mode, etc.

another 59p game, robot master, puzzle game which is quite interesting, but reminds me how much I suck at these kinda puzzles. similar concept to sudoku in that numbers add up in columns and rows, only you enter the numbers which come from your stash (which is random think falling tetris blocks). where you put a number is also restricted in that it has to be adjacent to an existing number.

so the totals are tallied up per row or column and the LOWEST amount is your score, ensuring a horrible level of strategy is required. hard. my average is 10, always my final one is 10 whilst the rest are like 100 (you get multipliers etc). I suck at it. but interesting concept.

Yay, my apps are working again! I had been restoring wrong; I needed to set up as a new iPod instead of restoring from last backup. Thank you Apple Expert who called me!

i cant see how it sucks. it's simple and easy yes, but it's very well made. they plan to do alot with updates with online multiplayer being one see this as a good start.

Finally got around to buying and playing Knights Onrush. Quite good, exactly the type of simple but polished game I enjoy playing on the bus.

Question: Its my understanding that Monkey Island is coming out in episodes on XBLA. Does this mean we will also get new iPhone episodes at the same approximate time the XBLA episodes are released? If so, that's cool. Can't wait til I pick it up on Thursday.

lawblob - incorrect.

Tales of Monkey Island is an episodic series that is coming out for PC and WiiWare. Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition is not episodic, and is available on iPhone, PC and XBLA.

There has been no mention of Tales of Monkey Island coming to iPhone, and considering what a small force the Telltale guys are, they won't be for quite a while.

It's a differet monkey island game you're thinking of (the new, 3D one called Tales of Monkey Island) and it's out only on PC and I think Wiiware.

YOU STUPID IST 2 DIFRENT GAMES.. 1 new, 1 old new

DUH

Thanks for the clarification. I guess a podcast I listened to a few days was talking about both series, and I thought it was all in reference to the same game / episodes across all platforms.

This is pretty impressive. Capcom implemented a d-pad of sorts to go with the analog stick. Double tap left or right and Leon dodges.

Aiming feels sluggish though, there doesn't seem to be as much aim assist as in degeneration.

I died twice in the first level already :lol . Game feels harder than degeneration. Ganados have weapons, and they do the head dodge move fro
the full re4 game.

It's really bringing back memories of the original re4 though.

I just blew the last of my cheap itunes credit on Real Racing otherwise I might have grabbed Res Evil right away. Thx for the impressions.

Okay just beat the first chapter. Events from the game are roughly represented. Ladders are there and you can knock them down as well.

Can't find the in game gamma. Have to turn up brightness to see better.

It's not a 1:1 port of everything in re4 though(chapter 1 just gets to the meat and potatos of the map, iirc the full re4 had noticably more exploration in the first area.). Cutscenes done with slides + text.

I'm in the "wow, RE4 is actually kind of impressive" camp as well. It's shockingly smooth even on an iPhone 3G and it's really a neat little slice of RE4-to-go.

Las Plagas Infects The App Store With 'Resident Evil 4'

Touch Arcade's - Review

An on-screen D-Pad controls your movement along with a array of buttons lining the right hand side of the screen that control all of your actions. Resident Evil 4 features a slight improvement to the control scheme in Resident Evil: Degeneration [App Store] that we reviewed previously. It seems like Leon moves a little bit faster, and double tapping on the D-Pad while aiming makes you take a step in that direction.

Since in a game like this controls are everything, I highly recommend giving Resident Evil: Degeneration Lite [App Store] a try before picking up Resident Evil 4. They take a lot of getting used to, and the inability to run and aim at the same time doesn't translate particularly well to the virtual D-Pad either.

Unfortunately, the iPhone version of the game (ported from BREW) seems so watered down that it's barely even recognizable as Resident Evil 4. All of the amazing plot elements and cut scenes are replaced by brief text introductions to each of the twelve levels, all of the voice overs are gone, and overall this just really feels like what you would expect a mediocre cell phone game to be-- Which needless to say does not do justice to the original at all.

Touch Arcade's review just confirms my suspicions I had about this game. I think I'll sit this one out...

Touch Arcades criticism are out of place. We all knew it was the mobile edition and it was silly to expect a console part. Anyway, I'm playing this now and compared to Resident Evil: Degeneration this game has made quite a few steps forward, but shamefully it has also taken a few back as well.

Maybe I'll write about it. Who knows?

Minigore where are you? :D

While I too am looking forward to it, I'm not getting its already cult status. Isn't is just a very simplified iDracula with maybe two weapons, three different opponents (same one but in three sizes) and a wacky Pac-Man power pill gimmick (if you collect 3 clovers)?

The game is garbage.

Edit: I was referring to RE4, not Minigore, which I haven't had the chance to play.

Oh, also, I found a post on Lilt Line a page or so back? Yes, buy it. It's one of the best games on the iPhone with a brilliant soundtrack.

I'm not sure I quite understand the cult following that has developed around this game either. It certainly has a charming art style but I agree it doesn't seem to be much more than an iDracula clone based on the video I've seen.

This doesn't seem to be a Real Racing case where a game takes forever because the devs have added so much from the original concept.
