What are the top 5 games you'd say a newbie MUST play? Rolando 2, Real Racing (I LOVE racing sims), and what three others? Infinity Gene looks amazing, will have to get that...

Grabbed Star Defense, now it's sitting on my iphone with blank icon and "loading" underneath. It hasn't moved in 20 mins
The same thing happened to me a few days ago when Mysterious Island app was updating. It only went away on the next day with the message that it cannot be loaded... =\

I just got Infinity Gene and love it. The music mode is awesome. I've also picked up Star Defense, but haven't tried it yet.

Add Drop7 into the mix as well.

I'll echo everything that was said, and add Flight Control.

And Sway! You have to get Sway!

Omg, on sale for 99 cents...
Eliss is nice, but not essential.

I think essential games are:

Real Racing: Just to see what it's capable of.
A tower defence: Preferably Geo Defense as a well-rounded game, but I think Creeps is good. I haven't played Star Defense or Field Runners.
Flight Control: The original!
A Rhythm game: Preferably DDR, but I'm biased. TapTap is a good look (since it's free, I think it's pretty crap).
Actually, Space Invaders Infinity Gene is nice to show the integration with the music library.
I also really like Edge, which is a goo example of game design for a mobile game.

I'm really impressed with Eliss. Just bought Rolando 2 and Real Racing. I will get Infinity Gene now. I kind of hate tower defense, so I'll probably skip that, but I need to go back and listen to old iphone game of the week segments :D

its also not letting me delete it either, or re-download it. highly frustrating.

You Must Buy Up There. An amazingly fun quick game that no ones knows about.

You've bought Baseball Slugger 3D... right?

This game owned my life for weeks. SI:IG took over - for now!

Uh, how is Minigore better than iDracula again?

3 weapons and 1 level? The gameplay looks exactly the same, minus some of iDracula's depth.

Art Style?

I honestly don't know the answer to the question and I haven't played it yet so I can't really comment on it.

As I mentioned earlier, personally I never quite understand the hype on this one from some quarters outside the look of it but who knows. Sometimes games surprise me. I wasn't that big on Space Invaders until I played. (Not saying this will be Space Invaders level)

I doubt it is but it's something new and
it's one-third the price.

Also it says Episode 1 so maybe we will get a lot of free updates like Pocket God has.

If your are looking for some cheap but fun games

-Flight Control
-geoDefense
-Topple 2

Picked up Infinity Gene yesterday, and it is definitely awesome. well worth the money.

Just played minigore and the thing it has over iDracula is simplicity. I honestly can say minigore is alot more fun and very worth .99.

Out of all the games besides Rolando on the app store, Minigore has the most personality. Prob only game as well where there's actually good voice acting as well.

FUCK. Buying Minigore. Will report back soon.

There are so many great games, but I think I'd say

Real Racing
Space Invaders Infinity Gene
Bionic Surfer
Eliss
Rolando 2

FYI. it is possible to load more apps than what can be shown on the 11 pages. access the hidden ones via spotlight search.

also, star defense is so bought.

I just played Minigore.

It's pretty fun. It's graphics are very beautiful, in both style and power. The controls are the standard dualsticks, and work pretty well. The level isn't anything special, and while it helps gameplay, it's odd to be able to walk through rocks. The enemies come in different sizes, the bigger ones become more small ones as you shoot them. The soundtrack is ok, and the voice clips aren't anything special, some rambling about infinite ammo and furries. Keep shooting until you die. Some enemies drop clovers, collect three and you become a monster and can eat enemies for a few seconds.

I think it's enjoyable for 99 cents. It starts simple, as in you don't even need to walk around, and becomes super hectic. One thing that annoys me is that it's dualsticks and not touch anywhere, so I'm not able to move my thumbs to get a better view the moment calls for, and there were times where I felt my thumbs blocked enemies that appeared. You can make the dualsticks invisible, but it's not the same thing.

It's fun. Pretty shallow, but fun. Anyone looking for innovation or sophistication will be disappointed, but if you expect, and are looking for, a graphically impressive shooter that only has one trick up it's sleeve, then this is your game and you won't be disappointed.

On a side note: Does anyone know how I can assign a picture to my name in OpenFient?

Synth Racing version 1.002 has hit in the app store.
Version 1.003 coming soon.
Anyone playing this? If so, how is it? In light of WipEout madness which I am a part of, I am quite interested in an acceptable rendition of a futuristic racer for iPhone.

Also I have been playing Infinity Gene, it's fun, worth the money but surely unchallenging... I wish they had conceived a control scheme that let the player shoot. Automatic fire kind of dampens my enjoyment in a way... is that just me? I am also getting memory errors when I load the game... I may take a screenshot but am I also alone in this regard?

Synth Racing has superb graphics and an unbeatable sense of speed. You dodge obstacles and pick up speed powerups to make it far on the track. It's not really a racer, just a "how fast and far can you go" game. It is great nonetheless and definitely worth checking out. Hitting an obstacle breaks your speed level, but if you're responsive enough, you'll go faster than you'd expect and truly feel the rush. It helps that the controls are super responsive, and you can tilt, barrel roll and do a bullet-time like slow down. There are currently 3 levels, and two modes [speed and practice].

It's awesome, but if you're looking for a true racer and competing for the best time isn't good enough than there's Low Grav Racer [linked to lite] and Phaze [linked to lite] that come to mind. I have Low Grav, and it's good. The accelerometer is pretty sensitive but you can adjust it in the settings. Graphics are nice, speed is ok and there are weapons and nice tracks. Haven't tried Phaze yet. Luckily they both have lite versions so you can check them out for free. I really recommend you get Synth Racing at one point or another, though.

I just tried Inifinity Gene. OMG.
I was kind of meh at the beginning, because I kept dying from enemies coming from behind.
Then, I started unlocking stuff. Free Roaming, and my favorite power so far Wave.

Boss battles are creative and the mission music keeps u pump!

How is Star Defense? It is on sale for $3. I don't think it could pass the greatness of geodefense at 99c. Is Star Defense a challenge like geo? I want it to last me awhile.

problem with the latest build of synth racing is that it has randomly crashed a few times while moving between menus... >_<

When I first got on Feint i linked it to my facebook... from there it set my facebook pic as my feint pic.

To me Infinity Gene is the shooter I've been looking for. Control is great, graphics, and music.
it really reminds me of Geometry Wars intensity when it gets hectic.
just got 1206 chain :D

There is an option, but I haven't tried it yet. In the settings menu, you can click Automatic Fire to Off. No idea how you then fire, but might be what you're looking for? Also, I've had the same memory message, but it didn't stop me playing, and since I rebooted haven't had it at all.

Incidentally, I loved the shout out in the credits. Made me smile. This game is absolutely worth the money.

RTFM

In this case, the help guide.

I only choose you to quote as you're the most recent but every question anyone has about this game is answered there (well every one that's been asked here).

You use multi touch (three finger tap, or two additional fingers to whatever one you're using to fire) to enable and disable firing.

Personally I don't like that. I would have preferred an actual spot on the screen to fire and stop firing. But the game get's so hectic, I just leave autofire on...and I bet if there was a button option...I'd still leave it on just because it's really frickin' crazy in some of the custom song levels.

If you're gonna throw RTFM at someone at least do it to the person who asked the question, not the one who answered it.

Additionally, the lack of Minigore fandom in this thread brings sadness. It's not amazing, but I thought SOMEONE would end up buying it.

Star Defense is one of my favorite iPhone games despite the mixed reaction it got on TA. It's also pretty difficult (though not even close to being as brutally hard as Geodefense) so you'll definitely get your money's worth.

He only partially answered it. It still applies. It's also not to be taken offensively, I'd need to add an unsavory noun afterword for that.

Anyway, after answering the question I tried it out more. Still, on hectic songs, it's nearly worthless. But on slower ones, it's pretty nice and allows for slightly less chaos on screen. Maybe if I practice more I'll like it when I'm not just casually killing time and going for score.

Now I wonder if going exclusively for Nagoya Attack points and not killing anything but just flying into newly fired bullets constantly to reach high scores. Could be the 'hardcore' way to play in the near future :p.

Regarding MiniGore...I'm thinking about it. Afterall...it's just a buck. But I've said that so many times already. I'm gonna run out of app screen space in a few months.

Went ahead and got MiniGore when I should have went to sleep. It kept me up about an hour. Which says a lot about how fun it is, given that it's only got the one level.

For a buck...a single, very entertaining, level feels worth it, especially in a game of this type (where the actual level you're playing on is quite unimportant to the gameplay). Even if I never played it again, it's hard to beat that entertainment ratio of $ for Time. Though I will most certainly play more. Whether it has lasting appeal I don't know yet...but as mentioned...it's a buck. If it were 2 it still may be worth it, at 3...then I'd question it, and anticipate further updates adding more (which may happen for all I know).

My impressions after that time with it: the touch-screen controls seem to work better for me than in iDracula, perhaps it's the visual que the graphical sticks offer? The simplicity of it, as someone mentioned, definitely feels like a boon to the game. Sure it has less than other dual stick shooters like it, but what it has is polished very well. And it continues to ramp the difficulty as you expect in these games. The ability to listen to your own music while blasting is a definite plus as well, evne though the in-game music is certainly serving and quite good for the game.

Definitely recommend it. Being able to play my own music should help keep it more engaging over-time than games that have repetitive soundtracks. And if you have Infinity Gene, you've already got 1 reason to have more music on your iPhone/iTouch. May as well try out another game that makes use of that ability/feature.

It's retarded in the sense that did it really need to be three fingers? Why not just two? Move with one finger like you already do and hold a second finger anywhere to fire (with optional tap to toggle autofire like the existing method).

And about the level generation, I did a little test and it appears to be using the song tags, at least for the first few seconds of the level (didn't play the whole thing to see how it handles length differences, if the levels even last the whole song length). I had two songs, A and B, and made an extra copy of B. On the B copy I matched all the tags to song A. Then I played all three songs and the level of the B copy matched the level of A.

So however hectic/calm the song is shouldn't matter, it's just a coincidence if it matches well with the song.

From what I understand, the ipod API doesn't give access to the raw musical data. So there's no way of using the actual music to do the generation (which is why there still won't be an AudioSurf on the iPhone)

Disappointed with Music Mode in SIIG. ):

To be expected, I guess, with Apple's senseless restrictions on music access, but even so. I would've been all over levels that worked to the beat of the music.

Still a good game, though.

Defender Chronicles got updated, now has a new voice for the adviser. Now instead of some poor French dude attempting to speak English, it's now a guy putting on his best Saturday Night Live Sean Connery impression :lol :lol

Damn, you guys are making me really want Infinity Gene.

Can't wait to start playing Monkey Island today. No more Bar Exam!! Hellloooooo sitting on my ass and playing games non-stop for the next two weeks. :D

Yay, a bar exam-free Twitter feed! For a first-time player like myself, Monkey Island is a blast.

I think everyone would. Hopefully Apple's smart enough to add it in 3.1.
