I will wait tomorrow when it stays fixed on the $2.99 price point. The price keep going up and down now, I don't want to accidently pay $9.99 due to their computer error.

I think it depends on what you're expecting. I think its quite good but I knew what it was going in.
.

Well, the mechanics of the game are pretty much as I expected (the turn-based side of things), but the actual 'heart' of the game isn't there. It just feels lifeless. I do think the graphics are nice, and there is a sense of humour, but while it does straddle the line between a first person shooter and an RPG nearly smack-bang on the middle, it kind of fails to capture the magic of either.

It's like they took the boring parts of any first-person shooter, and makes it into an rpg. ARguably, the best thing about an RPG is the story and a sense of growth of levelling up your character. Neither are represented particularly well.

It is what it is, so I can't complain about that, but that little spark that makes a game a great game isn't there. And you can't get that from reviews, videos or screens. You have to play it for yourself to see if it's there.

Pretty sure Carmack just said iPhone versions of DOOM Classic & DOOM Resurrection will both eventually have online multiplayer. Sweet.

Edit: He's basically saying that everything in their library is coming to iPhone. Awesome. :lol

carmack is currently been talking about iphone development. hes pretty happy with it and there's quite a few projects for it. he also said doom ahs been finished for awhile now but hasn't been released due to scheduuling (wolf rpg, hes saying something about doom resurrection point or something?)

edit: holy crap, quake and quake arena and doom 3 for like 3gs are coming (when they do get there)

You know it's crazy to think I can remember playing Doom on a 286 and having to reduce it on the monitor to the size of something around an iphone to get it to run properly. :lol

id iPhone game coming once every 2 months

I have some fond memories of being huddled in my buddies den as his brother showed us DOOM for the first time. That and Dune 2 blew my mind back in the day. :lol

Two sizes down was the sweet spot for my 286. Might have been a 386 it's been a long time.

Live Blogging are we? lol

Should I buy Doom Res?

I finished Wolf RPG, and overall, I'd say it's a great port-over, but the game itself is not that compelling. It has charm, but no soul. I also do like the neat little nod at the end...

Star Defense is 99 cents

Damnit. I hate when games drop even further. Had I waited just a couple more days.... grrrr.

I seriously need to stop clicking on this thread. Before I did, I bought 5 games. And had 2 pages of apps plus 6. Now I'm up to 6 pages of apps...full.

For the record:

At 9:13 PST, the Duke 3D iPhone update was sent to Apple. It fixes the analog controls and makes the game work on Gen 1 Touches.

So thumbs up for the fast turn around. We play the waiting game again.

Tried MGS demo and bought Doom Resurrection.
Doom is definitely more fun. MGS is a still shooting gallery, while Doom is full feature on rail shooter.

Not sad I paid 2.99 for Star Defense. That game is giving me tons of fun, and was one of the instant buys when I got my iPhone last week. Whoever was on the fence for Star Defense, you ought to buy it now. $.99 is madness

From Chillingo:

Minigore has struck gold with the hearts of gamers – the game has been downloaded over 100k times since it was released last week. With the upcoming series of updates the game is going straight to the top!

They lost my sale because I will never pay $10 for 3.0 upgrade for my Touch.

not sure I'll enjoy the 3d planets of star defense but for 59p it has to be done, I'm a sucker for tower defense.

still waiting on fieldrunners and sentinels to go on sale

p.s even though I love Metal Gear, MGS Touch was awful, hated it, and so boring and repetitive. Not worth the money and worth even less of my time.

glad to see minigore doing good. it deserves it even at its early stages. sure the hype kinda killed it but it's a game that released on a good foundation and will build off of that.

Anyone have impressions of the Ferrari racing game? I feel like having a racer would be good, and it's a buck. Tried the lite version and it looks good but controls are only okay. And every other decent racer is much more expensive.

Can't sleep, so I bought Wolfenstein RPG. Probably one of the better decisions I've made tonight. :lol Ahh shit, good times. Great game. Battery is done though.. so I came to put it to charge and wound up here. Yep.

DooM Resurection is good fun, runs at 60 on my 2g touch but player animations seem to be made at a real low key frame limit. It plays better then I thought going from demos and I think it's well worth the price.

star defence down to 59p? fuck them I paid their reduced price of £1.79 not too long ago, sometimes the whole race to 1 dollar is annoying.

One of the first games I brought and I had fun with it, car control can be very annoying at times with the way it handles drift and oversteer, if you can get your head over that fault there is a fair bit of game to play.

restart your touch

Anybody try The Game of Life? Seems like this could be fun local multiplayer with family, handing the device back and forth. But as usual with iPhone board games, just a tad too expensive ($5) for me to bite.
