Minigore is fucking fun! Price/value is perfect IMO and the controls are flawless.

I'm w/ Kev on this one. Minigore is great. I recommend always play on expert mode. Controls are great. People bitch aobut the lack of additional levels... It was $0.99!!! AND additional episodes are on the way.

If you want a DS shooter w tons of content off the bat then go in the corner and play some Isotope.

It's the same case with Rogers/Fido in Canada. Getting a game under the 10MB limit to attract the impulse buyers is proving somewhat of a challenge.

Wait, so what you're saying is that if you're using your data plan while shopping, you can't download anything more than 10mb? You basically have to be on wifi?

I didn't know that there was a limit!

Gotta make sure the games we make are less than 10mb then...

This is an over-rated idea imo. Lots of games crack the top ten that are above that size limit. The #1 factor for a game selling are brand power, quality, name recognition, ease of use, price, and uniqueness. I think arguably all those factors are more important than getting under the 10mb limit.

So basically, you'll never play any new games. Good for you, enjoy your $200 paper weight.

I was just playing Doom Resurrection, DownToZero, Electric Box, Mevo & the Groove Riders, Minigore, Vanguard Storm, Bookworm, Radial 50, Knights Onrush, Zenonia etc... all with 2.0 'Paperweight'.

Well duh, some games play on 2.0, but on a go-forward basis fewer and fewer games (possibly eventually none) will work and stubbornly refusing to pay $10 will make you miss out on hundreds of dollars of great content, and that was pretty clearly the point being made.

It's certainly something to be aware of if you're around the 10mb mark. I wanted to buy Peggle yesterday, but it's 10.2MB. Sale missed because of 200kb of data.

I also think the game controls really well. The gun-play feels just right, IMO. I look forward to their expanded content, if they can actually deliver on some real levels, different enemies, new weapons & bosses, they could have an awesome game on their hands. Who knows, though. They might just change the ground color to white, call it a "snow" level, give the dude a Mountain Dew branded shirt and call it an "Extreme" update. Time will tell...

After a morning of boring work, time for some DOOM!

Remember that ass old PC game "Abuse" by Crack.com? They went bust and released the game into the public domain.

Eurocenter ported and modified the game and released it for the iPhone as "Alien Abuse".

Yesterday, Apple pulled it from the App Store, and lo and behold, an official "Abuse" port was released for the iPhone.

Long story short, Eurocenter did not have the right to use the sound effects, registered levels (levels 5 and up), or the Abuse trademark in their game "Alien Abuse".

I am the producer of the original Abuse game, and it has been very distressing to me and to the original developers of the game to watch them do this.

Please stop those lies. We have contacted you several times and you were not able to show us any legal documents that you own the rights on the content or name. We are fully aware of the crack.com situation which has released the game as public domain and that went backrupt in 98. It's really a shame that you come now more than 10 years after that and suddenly feel bad about releasing the game as public domain and try to make us look like thieves.

But this sound effect story is just a reason to get Alien Abuse removed from appstore, as soon as we have been aware of this problem we have remade all sounds effects and submitted an update to Apple (in April), but you have continued to say to Apple that we were using your sounds effect! What a fair person !

I don't known about American Law but in Europe taking properties owned by a bankrupted company for personal use is a crime and send you directly to jail.

I will not be surprise that Jonathan Clark is just ashamed to get involved in such story, he is an intelligent and successful guy and don't need to get money such way.

I know Dave personally (RE: Abuse co-creator) and he's definitely one of the good guys in the biz.

I think there's more to this tale that will come out.

Additionally, I believe 'Stephane's version' of Abuse lacks certain levels from the original.

Love Dropship. One of the more difficult shooters but once you get use to the difficulty curve quite enjoyable. Controls quite well for the concept.

I also quite like Ngmoco policy of retiring some of their games and making them free. I have a lot of goodwill towards them as a dev.

I'm glad I got 3G Unrestrictor off cydia. Don't have to worry about what size a game is.

Dropship is cool, I played through the first four levels and died on the fifth... fun game.
Downloaded MEVO, looks fun, about to try it. Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor also looks really good.

Love independent gaming... what is everyone's most replayed (iPhone) game?

bought doom resurrection, it's pretty fun, but i'm definitely glad i waited until it was price-dropped. and i finally got used to duke3d's control scheme, even though i know they're working on proper dual stick controls.

quick question that i think i know the question to - does the iphone still have the 9 pages of icon limit? i thought i remember it saying you can still install over that but you just have to find it in spotlight? i'm not yet at 9 pages but just curious.

drop7 and wordjong. CivRev will most likely over take them however.

If I had to pick one universal game to recommend it would be drop7. Simply one of my favorite games ever. There are lots of games I really like on the platform though.

TowerMadness (3d aliens vs sheep td) FREE for Today.
If you think you might even remotely enjoy TDs then get this. I bought it at $1 and I'm happy with my purchase. It's no GeoDefense, but it is a fun game for a TD nut like me.

One cool thing is they have a high score board and you can tap on a high score and watch that other person's game.

New price doesn't show on AppShopper yet but shows in the App Store for me.

Thank you for this news.

Also, get Drop Ship! It's awesome. Just understand that it's a 2.5d game because I didn't at first and it made it seem like the controls were a mess because the ship wouldn't move where I wanted it to :lol

Just want to jump in and say that I picked up Orbital, Spider, and Spy Bot (as well as free Mevo) yesterday.

None of them are pulling me away from Civ Rev but all 3 are very solid. Definitely worth the 8 bucks I spent.

John just mentioned Spider on 1UP Yours. That was the last straw. Boooought.

Sidenote: Drop Ship? No bueno. That shit is worth free.

I just finished Metal Gear Solid Touch last night. Man, what a disappointment. It's kind of fun, but it doesn't seem to reflect MGS4 well at all. I can't believe they took out
the microwave hall
and even
the events after Outer Haven.
I was expecting at least a little mindblowing fourth wall breaking during the Mantis fight, but there was essentially nothing besides
shaking the iPod
.

However, after playing this, I feel like playing MGS4 again. :D

Spider is amazing. The art style, music, and "narrative on the background" make this the iphone's braid! And we got it so soon, too. :)

Played the first few levels of Star Defense. Game is flat out bad, IMO. It's impossible to get a decent view of the play-area, the path design lends itself to practically no strategizing, and it is pure rock-paper-scissors with the weapons, meaning one weapon does zero damage to a particular enemy, etc.

I try not to fall for big name brand hype. Not saying that the game is bad, but it just doesn't look like a game I want to play (The Creeps and Geo Defense are fine enough TC for me). I'll probably never purchase either Rolando, or Doom Resurrection, SPider and so on. They just don't look appealing to me.
Yeah, I'm probably missing out on some great games, but it's not like I have a shortage. You have to draw the line somewhere.

I'm glad I waited til it was 59p, but I wish there was a lite version so I couldve tried it beforehand. It just first register with me in anyway. It strikes me as style over substance, and I don't even think it's that stylish!

Not a fan.

The game got good review mostly because it has the brand behind it. For some reason media like IGN feels the need to give good reviews to all NGMOCO games because it seems to associate with good. There are so many better tower defense type games on the iPhone. Same thing goes for WordFu. It was a okay game, but there are tons more out there that are better.

"Big name brand hype" = GAF hype, am I rite?

I think doom has a serious battery issue. While playing the battry drains extremely fast. This also continues after you exit out of the game.

Anyone have a similar experience?

Been playing "Zenonia" the past few days and man I'm loving this game. It does have its faults but it's mostly enjoyable. Looking back at it, App Games for media devices (I.E. Cell Phones) have come a long, long, long, long fucking way.

I remember seeing commercials for Splinter Cell for T-Mobile phones some years ago and being blown away by how detailed it looked.

920330_20040415_790screen005.jpg

Actually it was made by the same developer/publisher as Zenonia!

I know I may turn up some brows with this, but I really think that Apple's "i" devices will be a major player in the gaming industry no more than a few years.

Holy crap, I was just thinking about this game the other day. Bought. And glad to pass the REAL devs a few of my bucks, too :)

I strongly agree, but in terms of it already happening. I think it's not even gaming, but the philosophy of digital distribution is really being emphasized the most here on this platform.

Due to the iPhone I think digital distribution prices have had a crazy influx and will be affected. It's already showing in the .99 stuff sony has planned for the PSP.
