have you seen this one? it's called UNIFY, and it's looking really unique. there's a video too:

This looks like it could be one of those gems.

Played the first few levels of Star Defense. Game is flat out bad, IMO. It's impossible to get a decent view of the play-area, the path design lends itself to practically no strategizing, and it is pure rock-paper-scissors with the weapons, meaning one weapon does zero damage to a particular enemy, etc.

Eh, I Love Star Defense. My favorite tower defense game at the moment.

Speaking of gems, everyone needs to buy Orbital. It is one of the polished and addictive "just one more" kind of puzzle game I've played since Drop 7. The game has crazy particles and vector graphics like Geometry Wars, and plays like a mash up of Bust a Move, billiards, and Drop 7 (don't ask me why). The online scoreboards also work great and it has Facebook connect. Highly recommended.

TowerMadness (3d aliens vs sheep td) FREE for Today.
If you think you might even remotely enjoy TDs then get this. I bought it at $1 and I'm happy with my purchase. It's no GeoDefense, but it is a fun game for a TD nut like me.

One cool thing is they have a high score board and you can tap on a high score and watch that other person's game.

New price doesn't show on AppShopper yet but shows in the App Store for me.

TA impressions

I can't download it for some reason :(

Anyone have impressions of the Ferrari racing game? I feel like having a racer would be good, and it's a buck. Tried the lite version and it looks good but controls are only okay. And every other decent racer is much more expensive.
The performance (probably fine on a 3GS though) and control killed it for me. I got Fastlane ($4 with a lite version available) and enjoyed that much more. Don't know how it compares to the other more recent games out there though. Main ones that come to mind are the two Fast and (the) Furious games at $2 and $3. Looks like there's a basic F1 time trial game on sale now too from the same devs, reviews seem pretty mixed but it's on sale for $2 right now.

Of course if you end up buying a few and not really being satisfied with any of those you may be better off just spending $10 for Real Racing. Then again if you hate it (like I did when I got Ferrari for $10 way back) then you'll be filled with internet rage like I am. You're on my enemies list for that one Gameloft!

bought doom resurrection, it's pretty fun, but i'm definitely glad i waited until it was price-dropped. and i finally got used to duke3d's control scheme, even though i know they're working on proper dual stick controls.

quick question that i think i know the question to - does the iphone still have the 9 pages of icon limit? i thought i remember it saying you can still install over that but you just have to find it in spotlight? i'm not yet at 9 pages but just curious.
Yeah from what I've read you can install as many as you want, but over 11 pages they'll only be accessible through the spotlight search.

Holy hell it's like playing Tetris DS' push mode with Puyos against yourself.

MGS: Touch is selling $2.99. Is it worth it?
Not for everyone but I enjoyed it. There's a lite version if you want to test it out.

Just picked this up. Can't put this shit down :lol

Man, geodefense is amazing. crazy that it's only 99 cents.

It's the 2nd worse one I've played behind 7 Cities (not that 7 cities is really that bad, just too damn short and not really worth 1$ imo).

7 Cities did somewhat limit itself by calling it 7 cities :)

But I found the make-your-route mode very good.

Been playing "Zenonia" the past few days... ...I remember seeing commercials for Splinter Cell for T-Mobile phones some years ago... ...Actually it was made by the same developer/publisher as Zenonia!
W-W-WHA? Put that in the 'mind-blowing video game facts' thread.

anyone else disappointed with the diplomacy aspect in civ rev? it seems that you either suck up to the other nations or get threatened until they decide to declare war =/

Well thanks to che's post I've picked up Orbital, really nice look and feel, love the way it moves between menus etc. Its hard though, my top score is only 16! More-ish though. Don't regret the purchase but might be worth some of you waiting for a sale instead.

This might be in part to me buying DropSum today as well and really enjoying it. I find it better than Drop7 and its great for 59p.

God, Doom Resurrection has serious pacing problems. The last two levels are like slow encounter after slow encounter with human soldiers just barely sticking out from behind some cover.

I just hit the 2nd to last level (i think) but are you aiming at the head a lot?

There was something in the video about being hooked up to something so it supports leaderboards and achievements? What's that?

OpenFeint is basically an Xbox Live service supported in a few different games

Of course. The encounters are just not fun. It's not an interesting use of the tilt really. I mean, they are obviously designing with limitations-- the game is not fast-paced, the enemies don't ever behave erratically when there are cover functions, etc-- but they just don't seem to be designing with those limitations in mind.

I don't see how endless confrontations like that are entertaining. It just becomes a shooting gallery. And you could play MGST for that, and that game is fucking balls.

Different strokes etc, I quite like this approach for doom, for a small mobile platform. It would be nice to see a true doom fps with these graphics though.

Roughly agreed. I quite liked Doom Resurrection.

Would like to see more games that take that approach honestly rather than full 3-D movement fps games. I also feel the same about Wolf RPG. Both of those games use the controls of the iphone more effectively although Wolf and Doom 3-D both have controls that are capable enough on the idevices.

We'll see how something like KillTest handles it with full 3-D look.

I don't have any problem with Doom. I've enjoyed it for most of its duration. It's just really feeling like it isn't doing anything new anymore and I want it to end-- in that way, it has the same problem Doom 3 has. harhar

Much love for Orbital. Great game that's easy to learn and hard as nails to master.

Also, Civ Rev is just incredible. I haven't run into any crashing or saving issues. This is basically the best game on iphone and feels like a full-featured console game in every sense (minus some UI issues).

With an iphone, I really don't need any other handheld gaming devices.

holy crap, the video for this was amazing. i'm keeping my eyes peeled for this one. great style and I love the concept.

yeah... if it weren't for scribblenauts coming out soon, I'd sell my DS. the iPhone has all the portable gaming goodness I really want nowadays. It's matured so quickly in only one year.

amazing.

Right? I hate when I see people saying all iPhone games suck, etc. There are tons of great games on this platform, people are stupid for assuming.

Dungeon Raiders - $3.99

549827.jpg

App Store Link - $3.99
Video (of DS version)

The Dungeon world is in danger!! Plots are being hatched and people are dying in the highest spheres of power. All the kings have lost a princess to give some work to the knights, but evil is everywhere and the world can tip into chaos at any moment.

But saving the world is a demanding task which is not for you. That's why the story of Glandalf the Magician has got absolutely nothing to do with princesses and worlds that must be saved! OK, a magician of the calibre of Glandalf isn't even capable of lighting a fire, but when one of his friends is in danger he is ready to do anything to save him. A friend in need is a friend indeed!

It turns out that, Butcho, his childhood chum has decided to take up a job as an executioner. Not everybody's cup of tea, but that's the way things are ! He is working in Transylvania for Count Dracula, himself! However, the count is an "ungrateful gaffer" and Butcho is being exploited to the full. This is too much for Glandalf and he decides that he will go help his friend find a more stable and better paid job!

Glandalf may have delusions of grandeur, but he does know that he cannot defeat Dracula by himself. He therefore thinks of Luigi the thief, the third member of his merry little band. And what a finely-tuned band it is! A big thick executioner to take the hits, a thief to pick the locks, a magician to inflict damage and a . . . . ummmh . . .Well, normally there would be a priest to heal the injured, but it would seem that Glandalf never made it to the end of the dungeon exploration manual ! For the moment Luigi is being held prisoner by pirates and their chief, the Giant Parrot who goes "qweek".

That's why the story begins on the beach of the pirates' lair, looking for your friend Luigi.

Features:
-Full 3D World
-Discover a crazy story
-Avoid the traps
-Draw your spell using your finger

One of the reasons I can't take my Touch seriously as a portable gaming machine is the crappy battery life. If Apple can remedy the 2- 3 hours of gaming battery life I seem to get then we'll talk.

That said, I'm loving the hell out of Dungeon Scroll and Wolfenstein RPG at the moment. :D

Same here. I'm going to spend the $30 on Scribblenauts to support the awesomeness, but I just know there's going to be an iPhone port. Oh well.

It's still missing enough big meaty games. I like RPGs and DS is *the* RPG machine of this gen.

I think there are plenty of meaty games. I would say enough to support it as its own console, but certainly for people like me who don't like rpgs and don't play super long games, there's a good amount.

Unify looks awesome. It's basically a duel Puyo Puyo. And Puyo Puyo is one of the only games that even came close to Tetris in that it had me 'in the zone' when playing. Taht and Dr. Mario.

I love the iphone as much as the next guy. But it doesnt have alot of games in some genres. RPGs for instance. Zenonia is ok but its hardly great enough with the stuff on DS.

Zenonia was a port from korean mobiles, they have a second one planned but any others are freshly made, it's why I think it's taking so long for some killer rpg games to appear because they are still being made now that the idevice is doing well for games.

I'm waiting for a good game which plays like Shadowgate/Uninvited/Deja-Vu. Technically easy to do; controls shouldn't be a problem either.

RPGs take quite a bit of effort to make; and with the app store having a strong bias towards super low prices, it just doesn't seem worth it to develop an original RPG for the platform. Zenonia is basically considered the best RPG game for it, and it's a *port* of a *korean* game.

Well if you're a diehard RPG fan or a diehard FPS fan the iPhone can't satisfy you right now, sure. But it's still young and things are coming that we know about and don't know about, and the iPhone does have a lot of great games in many genres.

Just tried RE Degeneration Lite, the game is unplayable.

Megaman II Lite isn't as bad as I thought at first. Well, it IS surely far from being as playable as with a pad, but still. It's kinda playable.
