Downloaded Geodefense and a bunch of lite versions (Drop7, Rolando etc). Geodefense is hot hot sex, and this is from someone who is usually pretty indifferent to the tower defense genre. Nomnomnom

One is good and the other is bad.

To be fair I haven't played it since way back on my Mac back in the 90's or whenever it came out, but from what I remember:
ugly
control felt loose (may be remembering this wrong though, I may have been queasy from the artwork)
ugly
extremely loose piece tolerance, like you could slide the pieces in when there should be no way in hell to do so
ugly

If I could remember what it sounded like it was probably the auditory equivalent of the graphics, I'm probably lucky to still have my sight and hearing.

So yeah I don't like Snood that much. I didn't know about that thing you pointed out a while back though, where you could take your time on shots and stuff, so I guess it has something creatively different going for it. But really for the most part it feels like it comes down to a big polished arcade game vs some guy's shareware PC version where he kinda knew how the arcade game worked, but never really got into it, and copied it based off of what he vaguely knows about it. Like most crappy shareware clones of arcade games..

I see your point, so I guess it's just nostalgia based. I played a lot of snood at my old workplace (before it was discovered and deleted), but I grew to really like that 'loose' firing. When I first played it, it made no sense to me either, but it wasn't easy to do. It was always a risk assessment to decide to try it or not, because if you messed it up, you just clogged a piece royally.

It's totally ghetto, I admit, but I think that's kind of where it had it's charm.

I also spent a lot of time on the puzzle mode - trying to master each puzzle on a single run through was the challenge (if you died, you halved your score), which seems to be sadly lacking in the iPhone version (there appears to be no huge penalty for losing and continuing). Not to mention the puzzles are broken into categories instead o one long stream. It HAS been a while since I played, so maybe it was always like that. The iPhone puzzles don't seem to be all that interesting however (and I find the new sleeping snoods and bonus snoods to be kind of annoying - wish I could turn them off).

I also prefer the seemingly larger play area that Snood has - makes it a bit more puzzley with more options to think about.

Any indication as to when Geodefense Swarm is coming?

the average waiting time is 2 weeks. It was submitted to weeks ago TO THE DAY.

Since it isn't out yet, does it mean it wont be today or can games be released at all stages of the day?

PSP can't compete with anything. The appstore is far from a selling point for the iphone, not even in the same market. but the appstore is there to give us what we want and it does well.

Sony is just trying to give its users what they want.

it would only be significant if they made their gamestore compatible with sony ericsson phones, but even then, its hardly a selling point.

I don't buy my phone based on what games are out for it! Although since I got the phone the games have been a huge bonus, esp since I timed my purchase with the flurry of great games and the 59p boom.

Thank you for posting this, I appreciate it especially at free.

On another note, it's not new, but I finally bought Leaf Bound [99 cents]

It's pretty awesome. I prefer it to Doodle Jump because of it's variation and Japanese flare. It's the jump higher mechanic but with more of an action/platformer twist, you have lives, there are enemies and best of all, there are boss battles. I like the touch control better than accelerometer, but either way it's a keeper imo.

This game looks very cute. I like the art style.
It doesn't look like an extremely fun game to me though. What do you guys all think of it? The art style and the gameplay?

California Gold Rush is such a good deal at 99 cents that I'm going to wait to buy Bookworm until it goes back on sale. I'm still annoyed about the fact it 'locks' for hours before the price goes up again officially.

I understand where you're coming from, but I don't buy that the iPhone is JUST a broader market. I think the nerds and gamers are rampant on the iPhone.

Just look how well hardcore games like Monkey Island, CivRev, Worms, and so on do - they are generally bought by hardcore fanatics, not the casual iFart crowd.

That said, I agree that Sony should do a few things rather than try to follow wherever the market goes. And THAT said, I think downloadable games are a great idea - but they didn't have to limit them to 100MB.

Microsoft's market, essentially, is the Xbox Live Indie Games section. It doesn't require any real rating system like the iPhone, and practically anybody can do it. Unfortunately it hasn't caught on nearly as well as iPhone development.

That said, PSP mini is getting a bit of both - the iPhone games like Fieldrunners as well as some XBL Indie Games, like all of the Halfbrick games. I've currently theorized that PSP mini games may get into the mobile phone game classification - so you don't have to go to the ESRB, OFLC, PEGI and all that. We'll have to see how that pans out.

Any idea how long the sale lasts for? How are you finding it?

No idea. But I didn't like the game all that much. It has charm and great presentation, but the actual gameplay is boring. The title just feels pretty empty to me, but then I don't really like RPGs. Before anyone asks why I even bought the game then, I thought that this would be like 'rpg-lite', get rid of all the tap-tap-tap menu nonsense, and just kind of a bit of strategy in turn-based manoeuvring around a map against enemies. Instead, you pretty much just take turns attacking, getting hit, when you're nearly dead, use a health pack. That's not really my idea of fun.

Just my opinion. A lot of people really enjoy this.

Anybody far into Wolf RPG? I can't beat
Loki
...

what am I missing here?
I heard there were specific routes to take to get the pickups, but all I ever did was save the game before going in and stocking up on like meaty 4 of every syringe so the battle is over after a couple punches. And then just keep punching after that. I pretty much just stood there punching. I did play only in the second difficulty.

Can't believe I didn't think to do that. Made it so easy :lol

I would buy Wolfenstein RPG if they would release it in germany -.-

Has wolf rpg been pulled from the uk store? I can't find it
Only wolf classic appears for me, UK store.

Id's app page is only showing wolf classic, wolf classic lite and resurrection.

*edit* the main app page has an ad for wolf rpg but it's unclickable, while the others around it are.

I haven't seen you guys talking about Modern Combat so I assume none of you care. Either way, one of the new updates has made me quite pleased.

http://toucharcade.com/2009/08/18/g...ed-for-iphone-more-modern-combat-fps-details/
Meanwhile, Gameloft has also given us some details about their highly anticipated first person shooter Modern Combat: Sandstorm.

You are playing a U.S. soldier under orders to capture a high profile terrorist. Set in the Middle East, the game is reported to include multiple environments including a hospital, lab, palace, sewers, port, desert, buildings and more. A wide variety of different weapons are provided throughout including: M16 and AK47 rifles, RPG-7 grenade propeller, MP5A5 machine gun, M249 light machine gun, and M40 sniper rifle.

Three different control systems are offered

- Left d-pad movement, aim by sliding finger, button to shoot
- Left d-pad movement, aim by sliding finger, double tap target to shoot
- Left d-pad movement, aim with right d-pad, double tap target to shoot

Gameloft also pointed out that the game features a brand new engine that has not been released before. So, it is not a reskin of an exisiting title. The initial launch will not have multi-player, but is planned to be added in a later update.

Modern Combat: Sandstorm has been announced to be released before September.
Double tap is totally what I wanted because now we'll actually be able to aim and shoot at the same time. hopefully the sliding aspect will be similar to that of Monkey Island/SII in which you can put your finger on any part of the screen and just drag it from there - kind of like a moveable analog stick. If they did that you'd be able to move around and aim without your finger getting in the way.

Soo...you need internet access to buy these games, right? Does it require the pay-for-internet service, or can you use wifi signals to purchase content?

Thinking about getting one.

Do you mean iPhone or iPod touch?

Note , you need iTunes software to sync it to.

Best general game that tends to be recommended by everyone? I'd say GeoDefense.

That said, best game is very subjective. What kinds of games do you like?

I'm quite interested in the game. I just generally prefer to discuss games when they come out as its all speculation until then.

Wolfenstein RPG appears to have vanished from the NZ store too. I wonder if they had to take it down for whatever reason, and thus bumped the price down for the final days? Nah, they would've announced it, surely?
Also, I can't be the only one who gets all giddy when I see Stoney's name as the most recent poster as if a new notable game has been released.

No Bust a Move in the Australian store makes me sad.

Been internetless for 2 weeks, what have I missed?

Also the Challenge levels of Star Defense are fucking hard

Yeah, and in my experience, it does all of those things badly. The web browser's a huge pain to use. Text entry sucks. Wi-Fi only means it's not nearly as useful as an always-on connection. Managing media files is a pain. Blah blah blah.

Whether a device *does* something or not is really not the point anymore - it's whether it does it *well*. I had a Nokia phone that did almost everything the iPhone does and more, but I never used any of those things because they were too much of a pain to bother with. The iPhone's the first truly functional convergence device not because of its features, but because it lets you use them easily.

Agreed. If there is something Sony dropped the ball on, it was the inclusion of peripherals to the PSP strategy, Could've made it a condender for my pocket space
The PSP Go, on the other hand, is a game machine - the only thing it does *well* is play games. And even then, compared to the iPhone, its only real advantage at this point are physical buttons. A big advantage, to be sure - but without being pervasively connected, it misses the iPhone's single most important advantage.

How so?

Phew! I tried buying Civ Revolution OTA this morning for $9.99

Then bargainbin dropped to $6.99

Then it dropped to $4.99

Then I got WiFi access

AT&T's no >10MB apps over the air just saved me $5!

Beat Wolfenstein RPG this afternoon, got mixed feelings about it all.
I guess I had high expectations or something lol.

Geodefense Swarm needs to come out already!

That's not an AT&T thing... happens everywhere.

So, is Real Racing ever going to have a sale? Tired of waiting to get it but $10 is steep for a game.

Just listen to yourself. "$10 is steep for a game". Really?

Anyway, put it this way, the longer you wait, the more likely you will get ripped off if they ever going to have a sale. If you had bought it earlier, you'd probably be done with the game.

Also, they're waiting to put it on sale after you buy it. Murphy's Law.

The thing is I don't even know if I will enjoy it, a lite version wouldve been nice. I could buy 6 other games instead and spend much more time on those.

I was waiting for Real Racing or Need For Speed Underground to drop. NFSU dropped to $5 so I bought it. Probably prefer game more any way. Like ability to get different and upgrade cars.

I guess you have a point there. It's one of the games that would possibly benefit from a lite version.

Still, it depends, if you like racing games, it's possibly the best sim-style (even though it's arcadey in nature) one on the iPhone.

Well that was dumb. Finally figured out how to play civ, and got quite enthralled. Then it crashed and I lost half my game. :/

So let me get this straight, you place workers on parts of the city, and they produce - either make food (increase population), work (make buildings), or on the sea (I'm guessing science/gold). I wish it actually helped you in game somewhat. But I figured units can move, wait, or defend, which is basically wait indefinitely?

The game is pretty nice and easy flowing. I liek the feeling of building a canon when your enemies are still stuck on archers.:lol

Okay I got Space Invaders but I feel really fucking stupid for not being able to navigate through the menu. I get you have to double tap to select things but how do switch screens in something like the rules or controls? I see at the bottom it says 1/3 and has a stupid flashing arrow next to it but I can't scroll by doing anything.

Anyone try that Moto X Mayhem game? Currently #1 selling Game.
I've been wondering about that too, basically want some form of Trials on the go. Physics look decent from videos, but the tracks look really boring.

Yeah, the pics & videos of the game aren't really selling me on it.

The Red Bull motorcycle game looks fun, but the price is a little steep.

Yeah, it's crashed on me at least a few times during every game. You just have to save often, unfortunately.

And holy shit, I've played through three games and not noticed workers. :lol

Well yeah, $10 is steep on the app store. When you can get hundreds of games for $1 or less, I think a company really has to prove that their game is worth that much. I get that they may have to charge that much to cover heavy development costs for an advanced game, but that's just how the market on the store is right now.

They're not actual workers you place, you just decide what you want the city to focus on. The tiles show the resources available to that city. You build various buildings to increase those resources. For example, if you have hills around the city, you build a workshop to increase production. You want to gear your cities towards the type of victory you are trying to achieve.

Choosing defend will keep a unit in a spot until you tell it to move, but it also increases it's defense on that spot. You also get bonuses on hills if the enemy has to attack from below. Look for choke points to defend if you're going for a non combat victory.
