The Official iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming Thread

My $10 DTE code came so I picked up Hybrid for free! That worked out very well, had it come sooner I would have probably wasted it on not as exciting backlogged games.

I will now use the remaining credit on Lets Tap. I honestly never heard of this game before on another system and it looks like all kinda of crazy eastern style fun.

I WISH I could be one of the iPhone users who is all "iPhone gaming sucks lol i tried Bejeweled on it once and I hated it." Then I wouldn't have to sell myself to random survery websites for a fix.
 
Anyone else been playing Meteor Blitz? It's a two- thumb shooter obviously influenced by Super Stardust HD. I've played through the first (of six) worlds and I think it works REALLY well so far controls-wise. You can upgrade your guns, detonate bombs, boost, etc. For €1,59 you really can't go wrong with it.

Also awesome is the real time leaderboard function, you can see yourself going up in the leaderboards while you're playing. More games should implement this, it's a great little feature that keeps you going!

Only thing I don't get is how to change weapons, lol. Can anyone fill me on thst one?

I think it works better than Geometry Wars on the DS and SSD on PSP, btw. Excellent controls.
 
I'd get Unify if only I didn't suck so damn much at puzzle games. I don't know what it is, I consider myself pretty intelligent, good at school, web developer....but I just can't do puzzle games very well. I can't see and set up combos, best I can hope for is to just randomly stumble on them.

I was ok on Lumines PSP but only through rigorous training, checking out guides on gamefaqs telling me the best ways to place blocks and remembering specific patterns.

I'm hopeless on Tetris Attack/Panel de Pon, although it looks like a game I should love :(

I will get Unify when someone shows me or writes me a guide!

EDIT: Just grabbed Unify. Looks good, and puzzle games are great time killers.
 
Bought sooo many games in the past couple days.

Meteor Blitz, GD Swarm, Dungeon Hunter, Unify, Squareball, Hybrid: Eternal Whisper (YES!), Ego Invasion, Robocalypse.

Damn the app store. Dammit to hell.

Well, at least I know what I'm doing on the way to Tokyo on Sunday.

Anyone try Lets Tap? Does the screen-tapping control work well? Looks intriguing, but I am skeptical of the mechanics.

geoDefense Swarm is hard as hell, and im' loving every minute of it. Swarm-a-licious is currently kicking my ass.

also, monkey island is down to 4 bucks? jeesh. SOLD.

Unify is so awesome. I rarely say anything comes close to the zen of Tetris (in the past puyo puyo and Dr. Mario come close), but Unify is getting up there.

And Monkey Island has not only been put on sale, but a whole slew of bugs and control issues have been addressed. Apparently graphics have been improved also (I'll check later).

Works very well although my thumb gets tire so I switch to index finger. You can tap on the left to go and right to jump. It doesn't feel broken or anything, very fun.

There's also a control scheme to tap the iPhone anywhere. It didn't work too well for me but that's due to the Candyshell case I have on, I'm sure. It's a cool idea, tap the iPhone anywhere instead of the screen.

I'll probably never do the shoe box contols, and with just the touch scheme I feel addicted. So it works well.

They seem to just be sending them out in waves, very slowly. I got mine today too, after doing the survey at the same time everyone else was. It sucks to have to wait, but chances are you'll eventually get it if you did the survey.
 
Our game is out!!

It's called Coin Toss Challenge! A complete retro-style theme game with a simple mechanic.
Toss the coin, and catch it with the proper timing.

This is truly a game that you can play while watching TV or idling. Though this is our first game, we did our damnedest to make it look and feel high-quality.

Duke Nukem 3D is on sale for 99c. Sounds like a desperation attempt to get people to buy it after that debacle with the controls (some say are still terrible).

This kind of sucks, because they launched at a "SPecial launch price of $2.99". I guess it was special. $2 higher, kind of special.
 
I would do dirty, DIRTY things for an Escape Velocity on the iPhone. That would be an awesome time sink! I want to believe it can happen, considering Ambrosia has been publishing some small iPhone games..

Still really hard to recommend at that price... I'm really bummed that I wasted 3 bucks on that..

Just downloaded it, played for a few. I'd definitely say MISSION ACCOMPLISHED on your quest for high-quality feel. The art style, sound FX, and music are spot-on (especially like the music).

The game is trickier than it sounds! I could see myself playing this a good bit.

Nice work!

My first impressions of Aera are.. either the game has a very steep learning curve.. or it's not as good at portraying the feeling of flight as I had hoped.

Just picked that up too, looks very polished.. going to be playing the above for a while tho.. it looks superb. :D

So Castle Warriors is Galcon in 3D. Not bad.. but I already played quite a bit of that game. Castle Warriors does have a story/campaign thing going on tho so it is a bit more in depth and for the .99 cent price tag (at least for today) it seems more than worth it.
 
So any impressions on Hybrid? I liked Zenonia a lot, but it got repetitive quickly... and figured Hybrid might be more of the same.
 
Jellycar just got an update showing a trailer for Jellycar 2. It looks to have more options than the original like car customization, wall driving, and balloons. Looks interesting. Ends with "Coming Fall 2009"

What are the impressions of the Konami Kart game? Does it play the same as Crash? better/worse?
