Unify is awesome. Real Racing also wow. LTTP there.

panelfly looks amazing, it's a new 99¢ comic-reader with a really beautiful interface and an interesting way to handle scanning between panels. i'm a comiczeal man right now, so it's definitely competing with the perfection of that app. apparently, it knows intuitively how far to scan to get to the next panel, so you just tap the right side of the screen and it moves automatically to the next one. i wonder how well this works on all comics, and if you can import your own.
Wow. Watching the video, the reading interface is IDENTICAL to the comic reader I released in the AppStore six months ago (that's the free version). Of course, you can only use it to read my webcomic, so your mileage may vary :)

Anyway, to answer your question about adding your own, I doubt very much that Panelfy will allow it. There's basically two ways to do it. The first is for you to input all the panels in yourself, which is a huge pain in the butt. I had a slightly easier time of it because I used a standard grid of panels that was easy to input, but there were still a dozen comics per set which used panels that were too wide or tall to be readable on screen that I needed to redo manually and break them down into smaller panels.

The second approach is to do some sort of image manipulation to try and find the corners of each panel. This won't work very well for many reasons, but the jist of it is, for large panels, you need to manually zoom in on the artwork in a particular order, not to mention single out the word bubbles and stuff like that. The video on the Panelfy website shows an example of some oddly shaped panels that require multiple steps to see all of. Some things a computer just can't do for you.

Long story short, setting up a random comic for a reader like this requires a lot more work than people would be willing to do.

RadiantDreamer!

New electric Box update came out with 10 more levels, supposedly more level packs coming too! SO I reinstalled this and re-worked my way back through the 50 levels, and solved the next ten. Eight out of those ten were really good!

Man, the more I see Galactic Keep, the more I want it... takes me back to my highschool days playing D&D and Star Wars tabletop games. It's the only game on this platform I'm looking forward to besides ravensword...

all the stuff the devs have shown gets me happy, plus the art style kicks ass... Don't know what to think of their Imp or Oaf though >_< again, I like the style though...

if they prove their worth with Galactic Keep, the devs won me over

So the update for Monkey Island provided a graphical upgrade by having anti-aliased scenes. I think it looks really good:

Is the antialiasing turn-offable? I've always hated anti-aliasing 2D artwork, it just hides details and makes things look less sharp.

I don't believe so. It ink they rerendered all the art and put it in the game - that would the better way to do things rather than expect the iPhone to antialias everything as it goes.

It really does look better (above). There isn't really a loss of detail, although Guybrush does look like he lost his eyes.

Hi all, we are giving away a free download code of Run! on my website if anyone is interested. link

ON a seperate topic to add to the Hybrid discussion, I am playing through the game for review and am really enjoying it. I have to say the first hour or so I had my doubts but the more I play the harder the game is to put down.

I am also playing through Moki Moki for review and am having a ton of fun with that. I am only in the water levels right now and am already finding the levels to be really challenging.

edges of things are still square so I think they just ran the textures through a filter and repacked the game, so I doubt it.

Wow. This looks brilliant. When's the ETA?

I bought Unify and GD Swarm this morning, haven't played either, yet...

What I can't stop playing with is Brushes. It's not a game, but a simple, amazing, drawing/painting app. You guys may have heard about the artist, Jorge Colombo, that did a cover of The New Yorker a month or so ago with it. He just did another one for next week, again using Brushes. You can check out the artist's work here (and watch the videos of him "painting" them): http://www.jorgecolombo.com/drawings/index.htm

If you have an artistic side and would love to paint/draw on-the-go (no supplies or sketch pad needed) you should check it out.

Yeah, it's really neat. I highlighted it in the non-gaming app thread a couple times. Newest version includes layer support to better compete with "Layers".

Yes, it's because of its new layers feature that I am again playing with it every spare second I have. :D I didn't realize there was a non-gaming app thread. I'm headed there now, thanks!

I want to be playing Unify, but for some reason I feel like playing Electric box (10 new levels), so I loaded it up again and started from scratch. Nearly at the 50th level....

Heh yeah, I got the new update too - I'm like, stuck again. I'll figure out out dammit! :D

I did buy Unify, but it's buggy as hell. :( Takes forever to load. It kicks me out of my game periodically, and the music stutters.

The controls take a bit getting used to, but it's a pretty neat game.

I haven't put as much time into Unify as I'd like. For some reason, I love to collect good games, but not actually spend that much time on them. I still have a backlog too.

That said, I finished up to level 60 Electric Box. I'm going to keep it on this time, in the wait for more levels.

Just bought Unify and it hangs on the openfeint loading screen. :(

I'm starting to really dislike these scoreboard systems, they are often way too intrusive.

Edit: oh, the openfeint screen is portrait, so if you hold it horizontally the ok button disappears off the bottom. Weird.

I want to get Monkey Island, but the file is too damn huge for my liking. It's taking up too much of my 16gb. I do have a lot of other stuffs on my machine.

Yup, that's a really stupid bug. Once you've signed up, however, it doesn't come up anymore. I believe it's fixed in the upcoming update.

billy.sea: Dooooooo it. Note, you need atleast twice the space free for the actual installation.

Why aren't the Phoenix Wright games out on Iphone? Seems like a good fit.

Holy balls That'd be amazing. I'd buy each and every one of them. Didn't Capcom have a bunch of different iPhone games in production? I remember hearing about that before they released Resident Evil 4: Mobile Edition.

I'm pretty sure there are lots of plans for game companies to move titles over. They're testing the water with games that are easy to port, and see how they go. I'm sure the 30% fee is pretty enticing, with them retaining 70%.

Well, to be honest, I'm not that interested in the game - I never enter anything, even for free, unless I actually want it. What if I won? I'd get it and have denied someone else who may actually have wanted it.

Game looks cool enough, I just have a lot of games to play at the moment.

Make sure that you're not holding your phone sideways when you're setting up OpenFeint for the first time in Unify.

EDIT: Beaten by an edit.

I actually bought the game first thing on launch day. Punching walruses?! :lol

Still haven't played it yet tho.. There's just too many games, and not enough time.
I'll check it out tonight.

lol I was actually wondering if no one is entering because most people alreadyt have this game. it is very popular on the app store right now. I get alot of visits, most people looking for a review of the game.

I have an interview with the developer (who i think has a really interesting story) which is hopefully being posted next week. The dev is a very young guy fresh out of college and thanks to the iPhone app store he is doing quite well now. His game has been in the top 25 and the top 50 for quite some time now.

I have working on a series of dev interviews for my site and i am really finding it fascinating what the iPhone app store has done for so many small indie devs. They are on a plain level field right up there with the big guys, and you often have apps like Run, created by a very small dev with a small budget, that is doing much better then other apps published by the big dogs like EA or Konami.

Obviously there have been indie pubs that have made it big over the years, but the app store seems to really be bringing them out of the woodwork, and i think thats great. The more indie games the better imo. The corporate gaming sequelitis is bad. Even new titles on the big next gen systems seem like old games with new skins. I guess when you are spending millions you want a sure thing.

We have the 360 arcade and PSN but even there you dont see as many new and creative titles as there is still a larger barrier to entry. I know 360 does have a sperate section for the XNA stuff and you do get some gems there, but not nearly what you see in the iphone for some reason. Maybe because is is harder to really break through and make money with a XNA game i dont know.

anyways i know there are some gripes about how the app store is being run and certainly there is plently of room for improvement but overall i do think there are some great things happening in the indie game scene thanks to the app store market.

Thanks Costanza and jswanko you rock! and you were right, i was out for my wifes birthday all day and apparently didn't remember to approve the comments on that page. LOL I just checked and there were a few entries in there. Thanks to all the gafers who entered you guys are great! I wish i was given more than one code to give away! I have another giveaway coming up for Dungeon Scroll where i should have multiple codes to give away

Now, I know there's a guideline in TOS to prevent outside advertising and I'm pretty sure it's fairly complete: no advertising whatsoever, right? Simultaneously, I've seen a number of people announcing and discussing the iPhone projects they're working on here and there in this thread, which seems to be okay. I'd love to mention the upcoming game I've been working on but I really don't want to rub someone the wrong way and get my ass handed to me.

Is there an exception for this thread, is it related to how indie a project is? What I'd want to do is post a few screens and a description but, again, banning is something I'd like to avoid. Help fellow App Store addicts. :)

Thanks, Costanza. I appreciate it.

I'm too busy at the moment to really write it up but it's forthcoming. In the meantime I'll just say that the people I've seen asking for Elite Beat Agents gameplay on the iPhone should look forward to it. :D

Got my interest piqued already!

I've never liked OpenFeint, it's always slow and feels very intrusive.

Dungeon Scroll is an awesome game, and everyone should buy it anyway.

Plaguefox: Colour me intrigued. The only rhythm game on the iPhone that I have felt was worth it is DDR S. Not a fan of TapTap or World of Tunes.

I bought Dungeon Hunter on a whim and it's fucking beastly. I haven't stopped playing all day. It's everything that I wanted Underworlds to be, and much more. I don't play my iPod Touch as much as I used to but this game is addicting.

I LOVE IT

any of you guys seen steampirates? looks suprisingly awesoem.
http://toucharcade.com/2009/09/21/luc-bernards-next-iphone-game-steampirates/
Luc Bernard has released to TouchArcade the first screenshots and details about his next iPhone game SteamPirates.

SteamPirates is described as a turn based RPG with the following quirky storyline:
The story follows Kat a human who was raised by the Cat Empire. After she found out that she wasn't a cat (she just thought that she didn't have any fur or a tail), she went out to the seas to find herself (it left her deeply traumatised). A few years later once she comes back, the Cat Empire is now ruled by Captain Purrrrrrrkos who is trying to take over the oceans.
Kat must then decide to either stay loyal to the ones that raised her, or join Ze Pug Rebellion.

Bernard doesn't expect the game to come out until the first quarter of 2010 but it will deliver the following features:

Ship Battles (upgrade your ship and fight with it)
Ground Battles (normal character battles like in a final fantasy)
Travel to different weird locations (such as Cat Cove, Neo Orlans, Beaches, Mermaid Lairs)
Fully Hand Drawn Animated game
Go on various quests such as saving rockstars from sea eating monsters, getting flowers for dog smelling bars, etc…
Classic JRPG with Western Influence
Funny ridiculous storyline
toucharcade.png

The game is being developed by the same team as Mecho Wars and will again feature an orchestral soundtrack by Sean Beeson. In fact, the main theme has been provided in MP3 format (download) and sounds pretty epic.
The game carries the same distinctive artwork as Bernard's other games:

Steampirates is Day 0 for me. Looks awesome + J-RPG Battlesystem :D

Wait, I was meaning the word game. What is underworlds?

I wish there were some decent turn based rpgs/strategy games out there, im kinda shocked at the lack of them. I much prefer turn based stuff on a handheld.
