yeah, sounds like I'm skipping Lumines.

no big loss for me. I wasn't a huge fan of it on the PSP (heathen, I know)

I'm still wrapped up in the deadly trio of Word Ace, Unify and Drop 7.

I gotta start Monkey Island soon.

*Accidentally bought DDR S+ instead of S*

Oh well, I would've bought this had it been 2 bucks anyway.

And after I provided a link (with an image of the icon that is different to +) AND said don't get +. For shame.
LCFiner: yeah, me too. I should play through some of the games I have basically never touched beyond booting to see if it works:

Real Racing
Civ Rev (I did play a whole game through once, though)
Monkey Island
Geo Defense Swarm (haven't even finished GeoDefense)
Unify (knowing that there's an update kind of makes me want to wait)
Duke Nukem 3D
...and I should definitely play more Word Ace.

Yeah I know. I'm mostly embarrassed. But then I realize I only wasted a dollar. So I'm not that broken up about it.

And plus actually comes with 3 songs. And that's 3 songs for a dollar and looking at the little music store inside + it looks like the average going rate is a dollar per song. Which is insane.

I'm a little curious about that actually. I'm surprised to find that the app changed from the lite version to that. APple said no free apps can have DLC - probably to avoid a bait and switch situation. But what is stopping a company from releasing a free app and then bait and switching to a paid one with DLC? Apparently nothing.

Anyone else checked out MinMe? It's a free little puzzler that came out of the Experimental Gameplay Project, and it's pretty awesome, albeit short at only ten levels. I'd love to see the idea expanded into a full game, which the developer says he'd love to do if enough people show interest in the free version.

Finished nearly a month ago for the Bare Minimum theme, and finally released from App Store purgatory, Chaim Gingold’s minimal masterpiece is now available for FREE download for your iPhone or iPod Touch!

Game Description
A simple puzzle game, in which our hero (you), must strategically collapse tiles and clear a progression of 10 levels.

This game was made in 1.5 days and reflects the Bare Minimum theme in multiple ways: the user’s job is to minimize the board, the game was made in a small amount of time, has minimal graphics, and only 10 levels. Pretty minimal, eh?

If enough people actually like and download this game, I’ll happily expand it.

There was a GAFer who was working on a really nice looking sudoku/picross game. Any updates on that?

I was impressed with Pixelogic's interface after trying the lite version so I grabbed it when it dropped to $1.

I'm stuck on Level 41 on Edge and I really want to get to the end of this awesome game.

What do you meant stuck? The levels or mostly pretty linear and straightforward.

Oh, and people shouldn't update Geo Defense or GD Swarm yet, the uploads are borked.

Not sure if this is news, but Popcap Games twitter said Plants vs Zombies is due by the end of the year

That's news to me. Very good news. A little concerned how it might play on the iPhone on the more hectic stages (maybe less sections of grass to manage?), but that's great news. Peggle came out pretty fantastic, so I'm confident they'll put in a good effort for PvZ.

Peggle never did come out with that update to put music in the game, did they? THey said they would, but they didn't. I didn't mind, I kinda liked it silent (although Ode to Joy was still in, but that's a must).

Ok, you guys can update Geo Defense now.

i wanted to get addicted, and knew it could happen with this kind of game...but it stopped so suddenly. i hope this guy's going to make a full game, bigger block-size and slicker controls, because the underlying concept is really great.

just a heads up to those like me who own 8bitone, a nice update for all us people with big hands: they enlarged a large portion of the buttons so you can easily hit them now.

That's true. Maybe they'll tout it as one of the features when they inevitably bring out Peggle Nights? Hopefully not though, charging for as basic a feature as that, especially one that was promised originally, would be pretty crappy.

Like you said though, it didn't really lose much without it.

Edit: Checked to make sure music wasn't patched in (it wasn't), and hit a 310,000 point shot. The game missed me apparently.

mrkgoo, how many songs does DDR come with?
25 according to the list on wikipedia, 26 if you count the shake mode song (...which doesn't really count).

Bought DDRS

But I noticed something strange with the old "lite" version of DDRs basically if you downloaded it before last week it got updated to DDRs+ and it has in-app purchase of song packs.

At first I was like WTF you can't add in-app purchases to a free app and then I discovered that DDRs+ is .99 so Konami basically gave you a .99 app for free.
Yeah they basically just took DDR S lite and turned it into a DLC app.

Well it's basically like the apps that switch between 99 cents and free a bunch...kinda. Difference here is that they can't switch it back to free.

Luckily I downloaded the lite version way back when it came out (which was a few months before the full version came out) so I got those three new songs free at least. Now my real issue is that the DLC song packs all have a song that's already in S. Wouldn't be so bad if the packs had decent numbers of songs, but four of the five packs only have three songs to begin with (the other has five). And one of the three song packs has two songs from S!

To sum up, S has 25 songs for 99 cents right now (or $8 if it goes back up to full price), while S+ has 3 for 99 cents (or free if you had S lite), and 17 more songs in the DLC packs for $11 more...and 6 of those songs are from S.

I wonder if they will finally put the music update in for Peggle, or at least allow ode to joy to play when you have your iPod music playing. Picking either silence then ode to joy or your music and no ode to joy is quite lame imo..

Hi all, I wanted to bring your attention to a game i am playing for review that has completely surprised me. The game is called Peter Und Vlad and is a very well done take on the "line drawing" genre that has become so popular on the iPhone as of late. This game really stands out however, witha very high level of polish, very well done hand drawn art style, and excellent gameplay. This game is quickly becoming my favorite game in the genre.

I have some details here and got ahold of some promo codes to give away this weekend. I will also have a full review posted tonight.

The developers on this game seem like they have a really great story, and could use all the exposure they can get right now as thier game has flown completely under the radar thus far.

Any impression on Sliding Heroes by SquareEnix?

there's a lite version, I thought it sucked. hard.

ugly graphics, weird game mechanics, slow as hell, completely uninteresting. no redeeming features whatsoever. none.

throat detonator sounds funny, anyone tried that?

Same here, bought and loved Gripshift and Shatter but... Fame? :(

Well, as mentioned the game is aimed at casuals so I'm not necessarily expecting a lot of GAF to pick it up. Fame doesn't have anywhere near the depth or dev time of Shatter or GripShift. That is part of the reason why we set up a new brand so as not to confuse people.

Our strategy for iPhone is biased towards licenses, but we will be doing original IP for the platform as well (we have a simple, original sports related title coming out in about 3 or 4 weeks). We'll be biased towards simpler titles as well.

We will be looking at doing core stuff further down the road once we have built up our tech and portfolio a bit more.

I didn't dig it. Thought the concept was interesting, but then you realize how frustrating it is to try and move let's say eight units around a map "labyrinth style", and it's just not fun at all. Especially when you have to mix up the units you have available, and some are where you want them to be, and the others are stuck on an outcropping or in an obstacle... just not a great idea after all.

Pass.

Eventually Squeenix will wise up and release some AAA titles on the platform. I appreciate the efforts, but nothing they've done so far is really good enough to warrant a purchase in my mind.

Pretty much this. The game actually works similar to Heroes of Mana/Revenant Wings, but with tilt controls instead of touch controls, so it's even more annoying.

Nice visual style! Entered!

Just got:

AppBox Pro
The Deep Pinball
Texas Tea
Unify
ESPN Radio ($3, my most expensive app, but will come in handy at work)

$7 is crazy for this much value.

If you like pinballs, there's a few great ones on the AppStore (Wild West Pinball is from the same creators of TDP). The one I'm playing lately the most is Monster Pinball.

99c for DDR S should be automatic. No questions asked.

I don't want to crush my Iphone by stepping on it... but seriously... DDR game with your fingers? There's a big question to ask, why would I want to play DDR with my fingers? :P

Because it's a rhythm game and rhythm games can be fun. It's just pushig buttons in time with music.

Just want to say that Hybrid: Eternal Whisper has gotten 20 or more hours of gameplay so far on my trip in Japan. Great game. Racking up huge combos in this game feels very satisfying and the leveling and new powers/moves are very addictive.

I wasn't quite feeling the controls at first but I'm pretty dialed in now and feel pretty bad ass zipping around the level ruining the lives of monsters and their peers.

YES! One of my favorite DS RTS' just got an iPod/iPhone version! :D

They even made a lite for Robocalypse so I can see how well they ported it.

Just got DDR, I love the Lite version so it's awesome to get this for .99
They also seem to have a DDR+ game sold separately, but apparently it's a rip off from the user reviews.

I am also interested in the Krazy Kart Racers. Any impression of it? Should I buy this over the other similar games like Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart? They are both on sale for $2.99 now.

ESPN Radio app is amazing. So much value for $3.

Unify is unbelievably fun. What a game. Currently paused on level 13 or so.

Texas Tea is a big disappointment. The controls are wonky (tiles are way too small), and it never feels like it does what I want it to do. Will give it some more time. Only 99c either way, so not too heartbroken.

AppBox Pro is cool and just what I thought it would be. Bought it mostly for the battery meter but there is some useful stuff in there. Not really sure when I'll ever need to use a period calendar though :lol .

The Deep is next on my list to try.

Oh now this is interesting.

This game "Hi How Are You" launched a couple days ago on the App Store. I'm not entirely sure how to describe it, the game is tilt or joystick controlled and involves moving a character around a world to complete various puzzles. Regardless of the gameplay, the art style speaks for itself.

lol, that looks awesome.

Played a bit more of Hi How Are You, and I really enjoy it. It's sort of a Qbert style navigation game, you control a character that hops around a world filling in little squares and trying to avoid enemies, with platforming bits scattered around. The joystick control method is there, but I actually think the tilt control method works pretty well.

Sooo is that game an Officially Licensed Daniel Johnston Product or is this guy just ripping off his art and music? It's hard to tell from the website. Makes me kinda hesitant to buy it.

I was just thinking the exact same thing.

Would be awesome if Daniel Johnston endorsed it and got money from its proceeds.
