Did they take Ghouls & Ghosts down from the UK iTunes store, I was looking at it a couple of weeks back, but can't find it anywhere on there now?
That game is shit son! It's using software rendering or something. Plays at like 12FPS and looks like shit.

Flick Kick Aussie Rules Youtube video

We have another original game which will hopefully be out before the end of the year which is shaping up nicely.

PikPok is giving away free download codes for this on our Twitter feed in the next two hours, and also have 5 codes freshly posted in here

Anyone know what Galaga Remix is like? It's on sale for $1.19 on the Aussie store.
For that matter, any of the discounted games... Star Trigon, BurgerTime, Alpine Racer or Mr. Driller?

Well, I'm liking it so far (and I couldn't pass on a deal like that), but you should try out the lite version first, as I can see the controls frustrating some people. Core gameplay is solid, though.

I got some quick impressions on games people have been asking about.

A.D.D. - This game can't hold a candle to Warioware: Twisted, which is a shame since the hardware to pull it off is all there. Not only are the games not nearly as polished, with many too confusing or too simple, but the transition between microgames has a weird hitch on my 3G that totally breaks the pacing. It's not a long hitch, mind you, but it annoys me. The fact that your trying to figure out what to do in 3 seconds or less with your fingers obscuring all the your visual cues doesn't help either. It's not a terrible game, but not a good Warioware replacement IMO.

Blades of Fury - This is a silly button masher that looks similar to Soul Edge and the like. There's not much strategy here, and the story is ridiculous, but it looks good and isn't terrible. If you just wanna mash some opponents without any real combos or ability it's not bad at all. Local multiplayer is finicky (example: a 20% battery warning will nuke the connection between devices) but works well enough for a few quick matches.

Earthworm Jim - Graphically this looks great and it runs pretty well on my 3G. The controls are a little iffy, mostly in regards to jumping. It's hard to time the jumps on the tires on the first level, for example, to get the extra height you get from jumping instead of just bouncing up and down. Luckily, the difficulty modes help make up for the controls.

Ravensword - I've been having some trouble with the controls on this game. Using my right thumb to swipe on the screen and adjust the view only seems to register about 60% of the time, which makes it a bit of a pain to play. Hopefully they can improve this because it seems pretty cool aside from that glaring flaw. I haven't heard of many other people complaining about this though.

Skater Nation - From what I played on a friends 3GS today, it's not so hot. You use one button for jumping, flip tricks and grinding IIRC, and the other button for grabs. More buttons would be preferable, but whatever. Grinding may have been on the grab button, but anyways, it's weird to keep tapping the same button to do things. The main problem is the analog stick sucks, and it's hard to turn. Gameloft seems to have more problems with virtual analog controls than any other big publisher on the platform, unfortunately.

Jet Car Stunts - This game is awesome. The controls are spot on, the graphics are really good and it runs great even on a 3G. The look kinda reminds me of Mirror's Edge. The tracks are pretty well designed and it's real fun to compete with a buddy over OpenFeint with high scores and stuff. Definitely one of my favorite games on the iPhone.

Asphalt 5 - This game isn't bad, but it's not excellent either. That said, it's probably the best arcade racer in the store (maybe excluding the dated but still awesome Fast Lane). It runs decently on a 3G, but the animations for powersliding and ramming into other cars look pretty bad, like they were lifted out of Cruisin' USA or something. Still, not a bad choice for what it is.

Doom - A well made port, but I dislike how all the levels from single player are unlocked and ready to jump into from the get go. This has kept me from playing it much, because I don't feel like I'm progressing and I've already beaten the game countless times. The local multiplayer isn't bad though, although many of the maps are horribly balanced since they weren't really designed for multiplayer all those years ago (although that didn't stop people back then).

Rock Band - My favorite music game on the platform. It only has 20 songs, but you can buy more for 50 cents each. The multiplayer here is pretty cool, I only tried the local but you can get up to 4 players. I was bummed that the vocals don't actually have you sing like in the console versions, considering there is a microphone built into the device. You just push buttons along with the lyrics. This plays way better than the Tap Tap games IMO.

Has anyone played Stranded? Its a pretty neat clone of the Stranded from Garrysmod, everything is there more or less except FPS view :)

Implode and uBoot are my new favorite games. I can't seem to put them down.

I wanted to buy this, then was sidetracked by Mini Squadron (still busy unlocking planes). Will probably get to it soon.

I still think Ferrari GT tops anything else in the category.. But I'll probably bite with A5 because I'd really like to try something new.

Thanks!

This looks lovely, but is clearly aimed at kids, and I won't be buying it - as much as I want to support them (because I want Galactic Keep more than anything else on the platform right now), I need to have an actual game to justify my purchases, or this all just becomes very silly indeed.

But if you've got kids, this looks like great fun.

I said this about Imp Or Oaf a few days ago. I was grossly wrong. I bought it, because I'm weak, and I have played it and I LOVE it. It's charming and neat and simple and fun, and absolutely worth the 59p it cost me. Seriously, it's just delightful.

On my touch so hard to make a good quote quickly, but to bounce higher in ewj just hold jump, the game has never needed timing to do such things.

..As promised, here's more promo codes for Jacques & Stella's Mystery Files Club.

Since launch we've had a few reviews (positive) and some sales, nothing stellar but enough to boost our ego. I would really like to make a sequel because I like the characters, but perhaps next time we'll have more story, less random elements. Did anyone play it? What's your opinion? Leave feedback if you please!

It doesn't look like the type of game I want for my phone, so unfortunately I never tried it.

Grabbed code #3. I'll take a look today or tomorrow and try to offer some constructive criticism later this weekend.

Thanks!

They could use an overlay, but what I meant was that the lack of tactile buttons, and the frequency in which auto-correct is used for SMS, email and such...would make the game incredibly difficult and unfun. I'd rather just tap the screen to shoot.

Yeah same here. Typing of the Dead without a keyboard wouldn't be real fun I don't think. I think HotD Overkill would make a good iPhone port though if I had my druthers I'd rather have an original game.

Just got Hills and Rivers Remain and I'm loving it so far. Recommended if you like strategy games.

Have $25 to spend on games that will last me a month in a 3rd world country!

Any recommendations? Just bought Peggle and I have:

Drop7
Bejeweled 2
GeoDefense
... and more!

Is Bejeweled 2 worth it if I really enjoyed the first iteration? How about RPGs? Also, what's the best Space Invaders package available? Is there an iPhone version of those recently released DS and PSP iPhone games?

I'll be gone in 24 hours so I'd love some recommendations. Thank you in advance :)

EDIT: just found this: http://toucharcade.com/2009/11/27/black-friday-2009-app-store-sale-extravaganza/

Which deal is a MUST?

^^^

Rogue Planet - Advance Wars-like turn based strategy game.
Civilization Revolution - Endless fun!
Space Invaders Infinity Gene - Pure Awesome.
Fantasy Warrior Good and Evil - It's not a great RPG by any means, but as for the ones I've tried so far on the iPhone I've had the most fun out of this one.
Meteor Blitz - Super Stardust HD-like dual thumb shooter. It controls great IMO, plus it's got some nice online leaderboard features.
Chuck Norris Bring on the Pain - "Death once had a near Chuck Norris experience" + You can paste a friend's head on your enemies!

I'm an iphone developer currently working on some games. I wanted to ask your opinions with regards to submitting scores to leaderboards, seeing friend's scores, etc.

- Are there any games that you think do this especially well?
- Are you happy with things like Open Feint? I haven't had good experiences with these, but I wonder whether it's just me.
- Do you think being able to post your score/progress on twitter directly from the app is a good thing?
- Are you happy to add things like six-digit friend codes to your game to see scoreboards?

Are there any games that manage a very simple online scoreboard with some sort of friend list, without relying on another service like facebook, openfeint, etc?

1) The Plus+ stuff is excellent.
2) Open Feint is ok. Not as polished as Plus+.
3) No, it's annoying and nobody cares for game spam on those services.
4) No.

Check out Eliminate by ngmoco. They pretty much cloned what's good about Xbox Live on the iPhone.

Thanks for the input CoG.

I have some ngmoco games, but I don't know anyone else's usernames on there, so I haven't really been able to benefit from the services.

It seems that these services like Plus+ and Openfeint require a slightly more hardcore sort of person, the sort that would seek out their friend's usernames or badger people to get onto the service.

I agree Plus+ is more geared to the hardcore. For simple friend integration check out Doodle Jump. It relies on Facebook, but it's definitely casual gamer friendly.

California Gold Rush, awesome mining game with a lot of levels.

California Gold Rush WAS an awesome mining game BEFORE the update...

Is there any way to flag apps to not be updated? I didn't really want to update Frotz because they disabled the online download option, but I was getting fed up with the update nagging me on the app store. Is it possible to say 'don't look for updates of this app' ?

What happend? I didn't play it for a little while and went back to it finding that my save game has been WIPED! and no i'm still using the same install, pc and all that to sync. Was there a bug?

Hey. So, as a fellow developer, I've got some input on these particular subjects. First, re: simple online scoreboard, our game Taxiball has exactly that, without using OpenFeint or Plus+ (this was before either of those two were either available, or polished enough to be useful).

re: Twitter - one thing that most players won't realize is that on the App Store, visibility and awareness are CRITICAL to your success. Unless you have a massive advertising budget, you're going to need to raise awareness of your games. Word of mouth is your best friend, here. Positive reviews will help, but not as much as you think. You NEED people to spread the word about your game. So Twitter integration is helpful, but of course, if it gets annoying, it will begin to work against you. But if you're wondering whether or not to do it, DO IT. Facebook integration, Twitter integration - do as much as you can.

it's an area that we (Self Aware Games) have yet to really pursue, but I can tell you in their absence, relying on people to spread the word on their own is difficult. Look at Bejeweled Blitz. How many people have fired up that game because they saw someone's score posted, and thought, "I can do better than that."

On GAF, you're going to find a lot of hardcore gamers who will be very annoyed by that kind of spam, but in the iPhone community as a *whole*, it's effective. It works. And given how crowded the Store is, and how hard it is to succeed, you're going to have to employ every single tactic you can think of to raise awareness about your game.

No, that was part of the update...

As was removing some game options that was part of the game before the update and you now have to buy as a separate add-on.

Even though you paid for it already as it was part of the game before the update.

Big fucking scam/rip-off by Trip Hawkins and Digital Chocolate.

Edit: And something that really pisses me off is that they use reviews from IGN and other places as a selling point in their description in the App-store.
Which would be OK if they had not changed the game so much after the reviews.

Just got an iPod touch. I'm interested in trying out some games, but I don't necessarily wish to pay for them quite yet.

What would you guys consider the best free games availabe for the iPhone?

Somone HAS TO MAKE FUR FIGHTERS. Any game company out there making games for iPod Touch, if you are reading this, Fur Fighters. Do it. Like, now.

Are you serious? What bullshit....what part did they remove?

I loved California Gold Rush, but stopped playing it since my save data was completely wiped out somehow. No idea how, I never lost my data for my other games either. Maybe due to this update?

As an alternative, I'd suggest I Dig It. Fantastic little game. I Dig It 2: Expeditions just came out too, though I'm having issues with the difficulty and seeming glitches in that game...

So Lumines is my first real iTouch game. Got it after the update thanks to the recommendation in this thread actually. Have to say I quite like what they've done. The new skins are nice and the controls are really solid (especially if you use your thumb, my recommendation). Cool that all the time trials and modes have different medals to strive for, and they're all quite reasonable. Is unfortunate you can only turn one way, that's going to slow you down of course. Also maybe it's just me but Endless never seems to speed up. I think I went through six or seven laps of the basic pack before packing it in because there was no end in sight. Maybe it just ramps up more gradually? Not sure. Also the Comic Pack is nice, recommended for Lumines freaks like me. Too bad there aren't friend leaderboards.

I'm going on a bunch of trips in the next few weeks and I was looking for recommendations:
-Love PopCap-type games that are bite-size but deceptively deep. Probably wouldn't go for any of the actual PopCap titles though unless they have new features (I got Lumines because of the new skins and the challenge of the control scheme).
-Bonus if there are silly things to strive for like Achievements and awards. Or some other persistent rewards.
-Not a fan of tower defense.
-Not a fan of story-based games or platformers.

I picked up "Words with Friends" and love it! The push notifications that it's your turn are awesome.

Are there any other games like this where you take turns playing someone else?

who here has command and conquer? is it fantastic? have issues? terrible?

I bought a touch a few weeks ago but, can't purchase games do to Xmas coming up. Can someone recommend some good free shooters, platformers, puzzle games, fighting games?

Edit: I have eliminate Pro and its awkward so please don't recommend that.

Come on, if you waste as little as 5 dollars you can get 5 really awesome games.

Astro, nice to see you outside the Boardgame thread. :lol

personally, I have been playing Mondo Solitare, and Knizia's Roto. Both very good games.

Mondo has a shitton of different solitare games, and keeps track of your win/loss for each type, and allows you to undo your playing, which rocks.

Roto is a simple hex game; You need to match up the colors. Comes with 3 modes: endless, puzzle, and another that I forgot at the moment. Also has score submission.

I love match-3 games, but nothing really at the moment.

Oh, pick up Word Ace. Fun game of poker-meets-scrabble.
