mattiewheels said:sweet jesus guys, buy angry birds. this game's a blast. and so polished. the physics are wonderful, and the grumpy little sounds the birds make are pretty funny. they're pissed man!
Psy-Phi said:Pocket God's a lot of fun and frequently updated. It has a DoodleJump like mini-game in it that has kept me from buying Doodle Jump. But it's really just a sandbox where you can unleash your inner child's wrath, like you probably did with bugs as a kid WELL worth the .99 cents.
I'd strongly urge you to get:
Peggle
Drop7
Space Invaders: Infinity Gene
Defender Chronicles
The Deep Pinball
Harbor Master
GeoDefense -or- The Creeps!
The reason I say or for those last two is that they're both similar style Tower Defense games and getting just one for now would be best for prudency but they're both great. GeoDefense is harder/more challenging IMO if that has any bearing.
Still reserving judgment on the recently released games like Pac-Man CE, Angrybirds, Minisquadron and others. I'm just not sure if I'll play them to completion or not so only time will tell with my opinion on those.

Red Conquest is what I'd call an "RTS-Lite"; your units are also your buildings/factories, so you can use the units to set up a defensive perimeter while at the same time using them to attack your enemy. The Red faction has fewer unit types, but is easy to play with and is well-rounded. The Blue faction has more expensive units and a more complex build tree, but they have better weaponry and you can explore a greater variety of tactics with Blue units.mrkgoo said:So what's Red Conquest like? I always had Blue defense/attack on my 'interesting' list, but never got around to getting them (and probably won't now, even though they're at 99c).

In addition to the single-player campaign, there are 16 single-player challenge maps and 15 multiplayer maps, where up to eight players can participate over local wireless or bluetooth. Internet multiplayer will be introduced in the near future.

It does work well, but organization into folders or categories isn't "computery". People use filing cabinets still, for bills receipts etc. People put books and games on shelves...organize clothes in various ways.mrkgoo said:I wouldn't say never.
I can see why they wanted to keep it simple to begin with. Apple wanted to bring the smart phone environment to an audience who have never used such devices before - and they have hugely succeeded (my Dad who can barely operate a computer with a mouse can figure out an iPhone). They kept it simple so as to not confuse. Now that the foundation has been set, I suspect something big will be due in the next iteration of the software. OS 4.0 should be a shift. I'm not saying organisation should be part of that, but you never know.
Personally, I don't think it really needs organisation, but I use it differently. I try not to go over 5 pages of apps. The need to have a page labelled with a category is unnecessary for me. Organisation of apps in a directory structure is so 'computery'. The reason for the iPhone UI success is that it shifts away from a computer paradigm and focuses on a UI that is made for a mobile device - something Apple does very well, and something most other companies fail in. Competitors keep trying to bring the experience of a desktop to a mobile device, essentially trying to port something as opposed to thinking about how such devices are used and building on that.

Figured it out...I had an app downloaded with a different account and Get All Updates choked on that.
I prefer Wanderer of Luone a lot more. Only played the lite version of Zenonia though, but yeah.LugNut74 said:I'm really enjoying playing Inotia: A Wanderer of Luone at the moment. It's the best rpg I have played on the iphone so far. Zenonia is the 2nd best rpg in my opinion. Both are great though.

We need some way to organize our apps, by whatever method people choose. Folders? A list with smaller icons. A coverflow would work really well. Unlimited space is necessary. And a quick way to go to page 7 would be very welcome. Maybe make the page buttons larger so one could accuartely flip to a page quickly. I know the search function will work for beyond the 11 pages we get, and it does sort it into a list. But typing out the apps your looking for takes longer than a quick page jump and press of the button would theoretically.
And my phone is JB purely for SB settings and mobile terminal (which allows me to do slot from my phone on our network at work. Tools I'd otherwise have to pay for that have limitations a pure unix-like terminal can't offer.
I don't like the categories app; it mis behaves a bit too much. Slow to load on my old 3g, crashing on rare ocassions, I've yet to try it on the 3gs.
Apple should have thrown in a free app too with the 3.0 update, maybe now that they have what seems to be a new games team they can do that for 4.0LCfiner said:are you on version 2.x on a touch? you gotta shell out 5 bucks for version 3.x
How old is that screen? I recognise the old gangstar logo from launch but they use the dude's artwork/face now.McBacon said:![]()

(Jail broken app. Are we allowed to talk about jail breaking on NeoGAF? It's only for homebrew apps and giving more options, not pirating the games).
What about Stacks?mrkgoo said:I didn't mean so much the concept of a physical folder and stuff (that is, afterall, the analogy), but the implementation of directories as on a computer. The iPhone is highly visual. To have lists and small icons is a call to familiarity of a desktop computing environment, which is what Apple have been trying to avoid.
Just the idea of a directory structure on the iPhone (at least initially) needed to be avoided to get across the idea that it is NOT a computer (even though it is, and they're shifting towards it).
Little things like the way it scrolls to the next page is extremely important to convey it as a device with a streaming set of buttons (yes, I'm aware there was only one page in the beginning). It's why they avoided using a button for 'next page' - they wanted to keep the whole tactile nature of you and the device. Clicking an icon to go inside the folder in a windows like environment is 'computery'. It's not just flashy to have all the momentum scrolling and touch interface - it was necessary to present the iPhone as a different device than just a portable version of what you had at home.

Anyway the most I see Apple doing is recognizing tags in the Spotlight search, so you can search for "games" and they'll all turn up. I don't think Apple cares about these things despite recognizing how popular games are on the platform. They are more likely to announce iChat and voip for OS 4.0 than to implement such basic features as 'Apple Live and 'backing up game data.

*edit* wait you have CoD zombies on it, why have you not updated all your apps :S
Psy-Phi said:What happened to Ghosts n Goblins? When did it disappear? I was totally going to buy it today (well, totally maybe, wanted to look at the screen and think about it), it's in my Bargain Bin app, so it must have been on the store weeks ago -- but when I use it to go to app store I get nothing. Same on iTunes.
This is the US iTunes store. I read an impression about the game actually playing well, from a source I trust and wanted to give it a shot.
Porthos said:Did you just spot a pirate?(I'm guessing you can't update pirated apps thru the app store)
It's currently being modified, oh well.Zim said:I dont know if this has been mentioned, but iBlast Moki is FREE. Like RIGHT NOW. This is hands down one of the best games I've played on the iPhone. I bought it for $1.99 last week and its worth every penny! So take advantage while you can!!
Also, just got AngryBirds from your suggestions....AMAZING![]()
I've never had a problem with memory but I'm using a 3GS. Stacks doesn't hide an app for you so you'll have to manually hide and later reveal the apps with sbsettigs or poof. Another difference is you can place one app in multiple stacks. Stacks is still in alpha, but I've found it relatively stable with after a few tweaks.Psy-Phi said:How's stack's stability? Any crashes while running it and a game that's memory intensive? Any repercussions to removing it after having things sorted into it? I remember with Categories apps would sometimes stay hidden and you'd have ot actually remove them through the categories app instead of just removing categories first and everything going back to normal.
EDIT: I Just found the solution to my swapping page problem. Orbit, on Cydia. It's expose for the iphone! It does cost 1.99 though. Downloading now.
EDIT again: And it is indeed awesome. I'm sure apple will implement this eventually but well worth the 2 bucks for less headache. Even works with double-clicking hte home button. Something I never used for anything anyway (has to be enabled in the settings of the iphone so it's not just on by default if you do like that option).
You have to go through levels straight through. Replaying levels with different planes and surviving more waves is the whole point of the game.RPS37 said:I really don't like PacMan CE's default controls. I think I prefer straight up virtual d-pads. I'm kind of digging it though.
I also bought Minisquadron and I'm almost done with it. What's it take to unlock more planes?
You can look at the planes you don't have and it will tell you the conditions you need to unlock it.Flunkie said:You have to go through levels straight through. Replaying levels with different planes and surviving more waves is the whole point of the game.
I think you should try Hook Champ and Jet Car Stunts. Those have been my favorite games to come out recently.Corky said:so in short : Which games would you recommend to someone who likes soothing and visually pleasing games ( monkey island and trism for example ) but doesnt like "flash-games" or wannabe pspgames.

I'm not sure what you mean by "wannabe pspgames", but Rolando 2 is the game LocoRoco should've been (specifically referring to the tilt controls). And I also have a sweet spot for geoSpark, as it's perfect for the iPhone (short and addictive while dependent on touch controls).
