I pretty much always follow GAF Iphone game recomendations and I'm rarely disappointed. Just got Space Miner and so far it is great. Control scheme is excellent.

Can you turn off sounds and listen to music library? I don't see an option....all games need this option. I could just be missing it though.

I don't know if it's what you're looking for, though. ^_^
It really isn't since that game has a full color palette. I'm looking for something like no more than 10 colors at once

Yep. Do it mrkgoo!

I guess a new thread does give exposure, but pretty much all iPhone gamers visit this thread. I'm not going to start one, but if you feel it, go ahead. quote me if you want.

I actually kinda like this thread. I can bookmark it and visit it regularly.

Space Miner = Star Control 2.5?

Edit: While we're at it, there should be SOMEONE out there who is game enough to port SC2/Ur-Quan Masters to the iPhone for release.

What, you mean like these guys?

Not sure if the project's still going or not unfortunately, the site's been dead since November when they said they were submitting. My guess is they submitted, got rejected, and dropped it.

so just got sword and poker and honestly, I haven't touched any other Iphone games the last 2 weeks. This game is too addicting. I hope they make a Sword and Poker 2 or hell even an overworld map for it to expand the world, rather than always being a dungeon. Any other JRPG coming out for the Iphone soon?? Oh..and I'll pimp out "The Quest" for anybody that loves Orcs and Elves type gaming. Long game and addicting for RPG fanatics.

I just completed my 4th run through Space Miner, an epic brawl using only the Old Jalopy as my hull the entire play through (if your shields go down, you die in one hit :lol ), and I did it in under 4 hours to boot knocking out both achievements. :D

All I have left to do is HardcORE mode, but Hard modes final boss was insane enough to give me pause. I also need the "kill 10 enemies in under 5 seconds" achievement, I can't for the life of me get more then like 6-8 guys one screen at once.

I need a break...

Anyone tried this GT Racing on a 3G? Worth it?

It runs fine and the draw distance isn't that bad. The main issue I would mention is the LOD, it's blatantly obvious and downright distracting on some tracks when trees and cars are morphing before your eyes. The trees would be better off staying in low-detail than popping 5 feet in front of your car, and the cars should never go into that low of LOD in the first place. Regardless, it's completely playable, and actually quite enjoyable. I recommend it.

It probably has the same LOD issues on all devices.

Oh, and I really should mention, the load times are some of the longest I've ever experienced on the platform.

I can vouch for Space Miner. It's fucking amazing... it's pretty much the first game that doesn't feel like it was made in flash or is a shitty old arcade port (that pushes the h/w too).

I was going to buy AC2 as it's on sale, but everyone said it runs like shit on the 3G. I really wish I had a 3GS, but it seems pointless upgrading now.
I wouldn't say it "runs like shit" - sure, it won't be as smooth as it would be on a 3GS, but the game is fully playable even on the old 1st-gen iPod Touch (and iPhone 3G is quite a bit better than that). You may get some rare slowdown with lots of enemies on the screen, but the game was designed to skip a frame or two whenever possible, to keep the speed up, rather than actually slowing down (and there are special optimizations specifically for systems prior to the second-gen iPod Touch to make the game more playable). Heck, all through development I played it on a first-gen iPod Touch, which is the slowest of the bunch, and I beat the game on that without any trouble (and I'm just a programmer, not one of those level designers or testers who plays the game constantly and becomes masters of it).

Giana Sisters and now they say Riven is coming? I'm down with all this old stuff coming out, for sure.
heh.. I really don't know if I can play those games on my iphone because of screen size.. that being said, Riven IMHO was significantly better than Myst, and I really loved Myst. But I would put Riven possibly in my Top 5 adventure games of all time and probably top adventure game not made by Lucasfilm Games. Myst introduced us to the world... Riven made it living and breathing.

Yep pop up is the same on all formats, the main difference between old devices and the newer 3Gs 3g touch is that you can race against 10 cars instead of 6, and that there is some mild glow like lighting.

I think it's time that some big developers gave us detail sliders in the options like a PC game, if you want to drop framerate a bit/lot for better trees and viewing distance then let us choose, my 2g touch runs the game smooth as butter so I could get away with having a longer view and maybe one more car not dropping to super low detail in front of me. I do understand that the old iPhone needs to run the game well however, I bet the physics take a fair bit more power to function then the arcade fest Asphalt 5.

Card Ace: Blackjack is approved for sale on the App Store!

This isn't the "next big thing" we've been working on, but we wanted to keep expanding on the series of games we started with Word Ace & Card Ace: Hold 'Em. So, this is an online multiplayer Blackjack game. While Blackjack is, technically, a game you play just with you & a dealer, there's still a big social component of playing Blackjack with friends. Like our other games, it's free - so I hope you get a chance to check it out!

Woo! CA: Blackjack has been posted!

It's $0.99 at the moment, which is just required to set up in-app purchases (you can buy chips and donations in game), but it's now set to free. Might take a couple hours to turn over.

I thought Apple got rid of that? I thought you can have free apps with in-app purchases now?

ANyway, I assume the issue previously was having in-app purchases that didn't go through the appstore process (i.e. compatibility with Pre). What has changed on that front?

Regardless, this is bought.
Edit: Oh I see, you set it to 99c then drop it to free. Or something. I'm on changeover so I can't get it right now.

Does it have the same home screen icon as Card Ace and Word Ace?

What we had to do to get in-app purchases in the game is to remove the ability on the iPhone to buy gifts, and to not allow the iPhone to link to Facebook, which is sort of a bummer, but it's not the end of the world.

The home screen icon is, like in WA/CA, the little circular thing in the corner - so it's the little jack in a black circle.

And yeah - it has to *start* as a paid app, then get dropped to free for whatever bizarre reason. So it's switching over now.

Thanks!

One of the first things I bought when I got my touch was Myst, because it seems to be unavailable elsewhere. I'm fairly happy with it, but I wish I had a mouse for more precise clicking. I never got a chance to play Riven, but I've always wanted to. For $5 or whatever, I'm totally there.

Can't believe I pretty much just kept clicking on refresh until I saw it.

I love Self Aware so much. *hugs*

I just need a 4th game in the series to make it look nice on my homescreen (I currently have "Hearts Net" on there.

Me! (Artax)

Edit: This game fucking rules at taking chips from you...

Heh. I've gotta admit that I learned really fast to play with the odds. I really like playing with other people, though - even though you're just playing vs. the dealer, seeing how others play is fun. I was just playing with someone who was going for a 6-card Charlie - and they made it. It was a big celebration all around. Good times! :D

I was wondering about the calling rules in Card Ace, in regards to revealing a losing hand. I hardly ever see the losing hand of an opponent - is there an explicit list of when this is supposed to happen, or how Card Ace handles it? I thought if you call someone, and they are still in, but lose, they still reveal their hand.

mrkgoo - with Card Ace, we were erring on the side of not showing too much. The actual rules of Blackjack aren't as simple as "everyone in at the end must show" - but either going with the *actual* rules can be confusing, or adding a manual option to muck your cards or show your cards adds another step, additional UI, an additional timer, etc. which were undesirable as well.

It seems like some of the competition has shifted from the "no one shows anything" to "everyone at the end shows", and I think that for most people's purposes, the latter option is more suitable. I'd certainly rather see people's hands so I can get a little more info about how they're playing, and it makes, I think, for a more social game. You can at least learn people's habits in a more detailed and interesting way.

So, we're actually going to try swapping to "everyone in at the end shows their cards" and we'll see how it works. It shouldn't even require a change to the client-side stuff, we'll be able to swap it (apparently) on the server side.

Thanks for the info. I was mostly referring to Card Ace: hold's, as opposed to Black Jack. NOt sure what you are referring to here, or if I was clear (I don't ink I was).

Flick Kick Field Goal is still free from our Superbowl promotion, but Jos is switching it back to paid in about an hour when he gets home. Get in quick if you want to grab it for zero dollars down.

We will be submitting an update for it later in the week which has some minor improvements.

Also, Bird Strike update with Endless Mode with new props/powerups submitted a couple of days ago. Improves frame rate and has some extra puzzle levels as well. Should be approved any day now.

Just out of curiosity, are there any games out there that look like an NES game with similar limited color palettes? There's a good reason why I'm asking.

Still havent gotten a good answer on this...

plus, something more along the lines of NES then SNES graphics.

Whoops. I have too much Blackjack on the brain. Everything written above refers to Hold 'Em, not Blackjack.

Sorry!

No, that's what I was hoping for, thanks :)

BlackJack is evil. I just blew all my money in less than 10 minutes :/ Glad to see the chip packages back, though!

Oh, and whoever designed that logo is so good. Thumbs up to them.

That's never NES-like. Waaaay too colourful. There's an RPG called Minimae that could be right up his street, though.

Really? It certainly is colorful, but I think that's more a design choice... plus all the bizarre shit going on while you're trying to play is pretty distracting. But it doesn't seem like there's a lot of colors on the screen at once, anyway. :shrug

Retro gaming fans can add another item to their "things in life to be excited for" list, as we just got word that Manomio, who brought us the C64 for iPhone [App Store] emulator, is currently working on bringing an Amiga emulator to the App Store.

Awesome? yes
