I am amazed how the iPhone/Touch is truly becoming a legitimate gaming console.
It really is. Not only that, it's become my preferred console, as far as time invested. I played more Strategery last year than any other game.

One thing I've noticed about my own preferences in iPhone gaming is that I tend to appreciate the "portrait" games more than the "landscape" ones. They feel more... I don't know... iPhone-y to me. I like games where I can just hold the phone with one hand and use that same hand to play the game.

Just finished playing The Hero of Sparta. What a sweet little hack-n-slash gem, the heroic mode should keep me busy before God of War III is here.

I just want to tell everyone to pick up Space Miner again. I'm still loving this game... so much. I've mostly stayed away from the more "conventional" games on the iphone and stuck with the more unique/artsy/innovative/smaller games... but this one, I just can't stay away from. It's perfect for as a mobile game (very pick-up-and-play) for even a few minutes... and everything about it high quality. I can't wait to see what these guys make next.

Yes there are plenty of TD games in the App Store, but which ones would you say are better than PvZ?

7 Cities, The Creeps, Fieldrunners, geoDefense...

Well PvZ is pretty simple in my eyes too... I mean, it's just pretty damn easy. Granted I'm only about 30 levels in, but it'd have to triple in difficult just to provide a challenge.

I second this. It's a great game and deserves a lot more attention.

Hopefully Space Miner 2. :D

Endgame stuff is major fun and probably the challenge your looking for, but unfortunately isn't in the game from what we've seen so far.

I've never played pvz before the iPhone. I'm enjoying the aesthetics and mechanics, but it does feel somewhat unengaging. Part of it is the difficulty - you're not really doing much. I know this is a problem with all tower defences games, but that's why you need to have the challenge of figuring something out. I'm only very early on so I don't know if it gets any better, but it seems like there isn't really a solid strategy to pvz so far - it's like anything will work.

My favourite td in the iPhone is the creeps. I like the aesthetics and the destroying the obstacles mechanic.

TBH, I'm really, really enjoying PvZ but I'm on the "just a little TOO easy" boat. Each round all I seem to do is drop 5 sunflowers, a potato or two if there are zombies on their way then load up with twin shooters in front of each flower. That pretty well seems enough to get me by without any issue at all, and I'm on about 3-10.

Touch Arcade: What's a game that you'd love to make in the future?

Brandon Curiel: Dark Blossom. It’s a name that means nothing to anyone (it shouldn’t at least), but it’s a classic fantasy RPG we’ve had kicking in the background in one form or another for at least five years. Prior to Space Miner, we had been working on it as an original DS title, but gave up because the market there is very tough if you aren’t Nintendo. I’ve personally always wanted to make an epic fantasy RPG, so hopefully we’ll get the chance someday to port it over to the iPhone and try reviving it once more.

Also, Space Miner II. First since that will mean the first Space Miner was successful. But really we always have had a plan for a sequel and have tons of ideas we couldn’t get in the first one.

just picked up plants vs zombies and it's great so far. i've been waiting since they first announced it for ipod/touch and it seems they nailed everything that made the pc game so great. controls are perfect and graphics and damn good.
Anybody knows something about this game?
The Escapee is according to the info a remake of an Amiga-game.
Seems a bit like Flashback/Out of This World.
The PC version is freeware, so you can test drive the game before you buy it.

The download link on the official site is broken but it's available from other places. The other places are usually borderline warez sites, so no link from me, but Google is your friend.

That sounds great. Hopefully it's selling well. I've sold 3 copies at work just by playing it at lunch. :D

Hey guys the little iPhone game I worked on came out today. It's an action arcade title called "alternate". The basic premise is that you tilt your phone to grab yellow orbs while avoiding the red ones. At any time you can tap the screen and alternate the red orbs into yellow orbs and vice versa. And it's only 99 cents!

EDIT:
We got some free codes for downloads so the first 3 people to PM me get one!

EDIT 2:
Codes all gone!

I love the art style. It like labyrinth mixed with ikaruga?

Got a copy of alternate. Thanks, togeo!

I've played about 20 minutes of the game and it's pretty fun. It didn't click with me at first as I'm not much of a fan of controlling games with tilt, but found I was playing longer and longer just to get the damn time achievements.

I love that you have OpenFeint support and the art style is very nice.

A big tip for others, be sure to go to the options and mess with the tilt level. It helped me a ton!

Well done, Togeo. While it probably won't be a staple in my game playing (mainly do to the motion control, which I know is the premise), I'll definitely go to it often for some random goodness. Thanks again!

Recently a friend of mine (and former Insomniac dev) released his first iPhone game he's been working on.

It's called TapTime and admittedly its pretty fun. The basic objective is to tap on green and gold circles, and avoid the red ones (or slash through them for a bonus.) Naturally, speeds increase over time.

The fun part is the leader boards/achievements and shittalking that comes along with it. We've been having a good time with it here at Insomniac... heh.

He also put up a little commercial for it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZyA2fSDwxo

And here's a couple screenshots:

It's quick, addicting, and cheap. (99c) Recommended, and not just because a friend of mine made it. :)

Can anyone recommend some stories for Frotz? Anyone know how to get Hitchhikers Guide or Zork I/II/III into the library?

I don't know if they're available on Frotz, but Violet and Everybody Dies are both brilliant.

Thanks togeo for the alternate code. I'm really loving this game. The art style is really cool and I like the music. At first it was tough to get the hang of the control, but once I adjusted it in the options everything was alright. The alternating of colors from red to yellow is a neat concept, but you have to be careful with it because it could backfire on you. The little hint given to show what side of the screen the next wave of discs is coming from helps a lot. I imagine it would get frustrating if the hint wasn't available - it could lead to some cheap kills since you hover close to the edge of the screen sometimes.
When the waves of one color discs come across the screen (kind of like a bonus round for maximum multiplier points), it reminds me a little of galaga when the ships would dive bomb down the screen during a bonus round. Unlocking different backgrounds is a nice touch, too. This is a great game at a great price. Well done! I hope the game does well for you guys. Thanks again.

I've also heard some people saying that PvZ is killing their battery but for what it's worth, a 30 min play session costs me about 10% and has no discernible impact when i'm not playing. That's a 3GS for the record.

Also Peronthious, downloaded Violet and will hunt down Everybody Dies. Thanks for the recommendations :D

LOL Not what I meant. I usually get about 5- 5 1/2 hours of usage on my iPhone; however, after downloading PvZ that is now down to about 2 hours.
It's not hitting my battery any more than usual for a game. 3GS here.

For all of the Sword & Poker owners out there - have you had issues where a weapon with pierce (or whatever the shield-ignoring ability is) will just stop working? I'm having that issue, and while I don't know if it's the case, it seems like it might be coming when I'm on a floor after an enemy with the shield exchange ability has used said ability.

Edit: Or maybe I'm just fighting somebody who is immune to pierce. Never thought of that.

For those interested, Noby Noby Boy is now live in the App Store. Just downloaded it; gonna give it a shot right now.

EDIT: Curious. The game seems to acknowledge the "mixed reactions" the PS3 version had.

Post impressions pls. I'll get it but I want to see if it's worth waiting on a drop

Whatever the app I've found on the AU store is, it sure as shit doesn't seem like it's the game. Keep in mind I've never actually played or seen it in action, but this only advertises itself to:
* Transform BOY's body to become the hands of a clock.
* Take pictures and have them appear in the application.
* Stretch BOY's body using GPS.

WTF?!?

Yea, that's exactly what it is :lol There's Takahashi for you. Note that game game is in the "Productivity" section rather than "Games"

I'd certainly be interested in impressions from anyone who's picked it up, especially on how integral the camera and GPS are since I have a touch.

Bought. I'll give it a go once I'm at work tomorrow. :D

The camera and GPS aren't integral at all. They're simply modes to amuse yourself with.

In the end, it's just a stress-relief game with the sole purpose of stretching BOY out with your fingers and having him bounce around with other objects.

Don't buy it if you're expecting something more entertaining.

So this was the announcement? Are we sure this isn't one of those dicky little apps to get people excited about the full product/act as an ad for the full product?

Seriously... you can't hype up a game for release on a platform and then find it's just some shitty promotional tool that people have to pay for.

Don't mind me, I'm just disappointed that I still don't get to see what the fuss is about with this game (not owning a PS3).

The description gives no indication that there is a "true" game on the way, so this was likely... it.

It was a pretty quick excitement-to-disappointment turnaround for me, but I went and bought i Love Katamari and pretended it was two dollars more expensive.
