Back to 100%.

Games are soooo much smoother on the 3GS. I didn't think it'd be more than in incremental boost. It's blazing. ^_^

I still maintain that the 3gs was a more significant upgrade than the 3g. For the original to 3g, you essentially got faster cell network and a gps. For the 3gs you got faster processr, more ram, compass, autofocus camera, video, and voice control.

I JUST noticed the RAM boost. Wow, damn.

Agree with all of it. I wish I would have waited on getting the 3G... which I will probably repeat for the 3GS when WWDC rolls around again. :lol

I'd like to upgrade to a 3GS, when folks say to wait until Summer for a new iPhone model I can't help but wonder how much more of a hassle it will be to upgrade from the 3G.

3GS got the faster GPU as well, and technically faster network capability but I think the roll out for that is limited currently.

I'm waiting for the next one...cause hell why not at this point. Other than whatever spec upgrades I'm hoping for a basic design change, that was the only disappointment for me with the 3GS really.

I'm expecting to look like...a mini iPad, which is fine cause that'd eliminate the chrome bezel. Hate that thing. Headphone jack on bottom would be nice but I don't expect that, maybe they'll allow universal vertical flipping in 4.0 like the iPad apparently does. 3.2 on the iPad mandates flipping any which way, if they extend that to the iPhone that'd get around my issues with the jack placement.

That's the GAF app. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=329737

Edit: Could as well be a link, but it _should_ be the app.

Oh wow, I never messed with the settings on the secondapp, just been going into safari to access it. That's neat. :)

Also, since this is a gaming-related thread, two questions/comments:

Sword + Poker: MAN does it take forever to unlock the last few weapons. I've been trying to work on the sword that costs 75000 since it's a good power upgrade, but I keep getting killed on like floor 35. Once I get that shit, those guys are in trouble...

Textropolis: I'm trying to do this without hints, but some of the words I've found, I've never heard of. I just try random combinations after awhile and they work. Silly but cool. I'll feel good if I get 100% on this without cheating.

This topic needs more Giana Sisters, I'm loving the hell out of it. It's fun trying to find all the red gems in the levels :D

I just bought it earlier. It's pretty fantastic. Still trying to wrap my head around virtual controls for a lot of these games though (I am a recent iPhone convert) but at least this one seems spot on. Also been trying/buying out some of the suggestions in this thread and luckily I haven't been disappointed at all.

Rogue Touch is on a 1 year anniversary sale for only 0.99
Please buy it, it's one of the best Rogue-games ever made and is perfect on the iPhone.

How does it compare to Fargoal? I've had a bit of fun with that one, but I'm not a super huge roguelike fan.

Fargoal is the better game of the two. If you already have Fargoal, I wouldn't bother with the other, especially if you're not a huge roguelike fan.

Hey,

My brother is in Thailand and he can get me an iPod Touch.
i wanted to ask few questions about the iPod.
does a gamer like me, who likes JRPGs, shooter, advunture and action games can enjoy it?

Not sure.

I like those genres but playing them on the iPhone isn't especially good.

Yup. On the plus side, there are games in each of these genres. But there aren't a whole lot of really good ones, yet.

However, one of the best things about having an iPod is how it expanded my interest in new genres.

I never expected to love puzzle games (Drop 7), boardgame-style strategy games (Strategery), and tower defense games (too many good ones to mention). Add in the PopCap games and a whole slew of games that are hard to pigeonhole, and it's a great gaming system -- even if it's not strong in your current favorite genres.

I've not got around to buying it yet as I am neck deep in angry birds and a ton of other games, I like to at least reach the end of a game before I feel like moving on, unless the said game released is one I just have to have day 1.

And speaking of angry birds I never realised how tough some of those later levels are, some of them are a real bitch!

So Field Goal is my new crack. Play for 10 minutes, get too frustrated, come back 10 minutes later. Rinse and repeat. For those who have it, do you notice that many times you make the field goal but the computer marks it as a miss?

It's pretty obvious that most of the iPod/iPhone games not as good as other consoles, but I just want a game to entratin me outside, because I wont take me DS out ;] i'll look like a weirdo. [I live in israel, so gamers are treated like super weirdos and geeks].

I was given one of the codes for Alternate, the Ikaruga meets PacMan style game made by Gaffer Togeo . I really dig the graphics and the chill music. It seemed my style of game from the beginning.

It became a disheartening experience after I left the title screen. The accelerometer controls for this game are not tight enough to deal with the waves of orbs coming at you, in particular the orbs that do not approach with a straight line. I don't feel like I ever have absolute control over the white orb at all, making a move several times toward a bundle of yellow orbs only to swing around them at the last second when they move and collide with an unseen red orb approaching from the outside. Once or twice, I would predict this happening and tap the screen to change the colors, only to be swarmed by the very yellow orbs I was trying to grab originally, now flipped to red. It is very unforgiving.

The other nitpick I have is the amount of time given for multiplier rewards. If you're not touching the yellow orbs pretty much instantly one after the other, you lose your multiplier, and the controls do not assist you for gaining a multiplier unless the orbs are in a wall. And you have your orb lined perfectly at the bottom. AND you have it the target color. AND you can move it fast enough to make the multiplier without colliding with the other red orbs at the top of the wall. I never was able to gain a multiplier higher than x6 before missing a yellow or colliding with a red. I understand the want to make it hard core game play, but the style of waves that come at you from time to time make it impossible to grab the orbs that quickly with the stalled speed of accelerometer controls.

I love the idea of this game style and I love it's atmosphere and I really wanted to like Alternate. It is unfortunate that its controls don't allow me to enjoy it as much as I'd like to.

Yes I have had this happen plenty of times before, I have also had it where I would just barely make it and the computer will say "Good Job" then say miss right after.

We'll look into this - I'm sure I have had it happen myself.

There should be another update coming through in the next week too which adds some stuff around stats.

kinda a dick move to pull apps without warning ahead of time:

Lame. I bought that because it had the risque content (it's actually kind a funny). I wonder if Thera Dark Warrior's been pulled too? Didn't get that because it didn't look fun :p.

Guess I'll look out for when Daisy Mae's Alien Buffet gets updated in case they take out some stuff.

I've occasionally seen the X in the uprights but marked as a miss, not sure about the other thing. I have noticed some funkiness but it's random enough that I can't remember the situation.

While we're talking about it, one simple request - restart button in the pause menu. Going for a perfect game* is kind of a pain in the ass cause if you miss, you either have to miss out to restart, or pause, exit, then start again. Either way takes a while.

*Speaking of which, some more scoring granularity would be nice since currently getting a perfect game means your tied at first with like 100+ other people. I was thinking something like the Madden kicking mini game would work:

16irrxd.jpg

I forget exactly how it works but I think the red and orange zones provided some extra bonus points or a multiplier.

And there's one other thing from that shot that would be cool, multiplayer. Other than the standard modes, one idea I had was like HORSE, pick a place on the field to kick from and if you make it the other player has to match it (wind would be random, but the same between matching kicks).

Another camera view like the Madden shot would be nice...for some reason. I don't know, I just like seeing actual players and the kicking motion perhaps. And in a round robin type game you could see the other players standing around or something (and taking that further, customized uniforms!).

for north america maybe, but in the rest of the world 3G was an absolutely essential upgrade. phones don't even work at all in japan without it, for example! the thought of a smartphone launching in summer 2008 without 3G in asia or europe would've been absolutely laughable.
GPS is also a huge deal, and so was the case design (i prefer it but i know some don't) and price - basically, the 3G made the iphone mainstream.

the 3GS upgrade, barring a couple of minor features, won't make a huge difference for most people - it's the equivalent of adding backlighting to a macbook keyboard and bumping the specs a bit. after what's coming next, it'll be seen as pretty trivial.

...i hope! i kind of want to upgrade, anyway.

Been crushing Hook Champ. Game is amazing. Buy it now.

Well obviously going from nothing to at least possible with 3G is a biggie (I'm from NZ, and the first iPhone there was also the 3G).

I was mostly speaking in terms of user features.

So I guess it's starting to happen..

I got Plants vs Zombies this weekend. I normally don't like tower defense games (if you want to classify PvZ as that) but this one has really hit gold with me.

However, on the final waves.. it really chugs. I have a 2G iPod Touch. It's certainly not unplayable, but I definitely notice some slowdown. Anyone else having the same thing happen on their older models?

Amazingly, Space Miner runs perfectly, which makes me hold out hope that PvZ can become more optimized with future updates.

likely a repost, but looks worth it...
'We Rule' from ngmoco / NewToy aka ex-Ensemble Studios employees and its Free.

looks very cool

tumblr_kx6bk3NPSQ1qze438o1_500.png

ngmoco has a new social game, We Rule, in the works. We’re excited to share it with you.

In We Rule, you will govern your very own kingdom. You will act as a city planner and landscaper—customizing your realm with buildings, banners, and botany. You’ll decide what crops to plant and ensure they are harvested on time. You will collect taxes from your citizens and manage a variety of shops and businesses - from bakeries and inns to lumber mills and ore mines.

We’re also pleased to announce we’re collaborating with App Store star Newtoy to create this innovative, next-gen social game. Newtoy has a strong development pedigree on a host of platforms - before iPhone and iPod, the team helped create Age of Empires and Halo Wars. More recently they’ve engineered smash mobile hits Words with Friends and Chess with Friends.

Soon you’ll have a chance to build a kingdom of your own. We’ll be revealing more about the game soon. And if you’d like access to exclusive info and screens, chat with gamemakers and help us make We Rule better, join the ng:community.

really looking forward to We Rule. should be fun to have a bunch of Gafers in the world.
Only thing I'm a bit worried about is Ngmoco's free to play model. Not sure about that.

It had been months since I played an iPhone game, but I've gotten PvZ, Space Miner and Angry Birds in the past week. All seem amazing so far
