Since we're on the topic, I need some more OpenFeint friends! What's everyone's name? Add me, I'm: Flunkie

It's original, I know!

Sorry mate, didn't mean to come across like I was having a dig at you - I'm just astounded at how many apps there are that were once great but due to incompetence/greed end up in the shitter (Midcentury's "Shopper" comes to mind).
I think it's more that their servers got overwhelmed and ran into issues fixing it. I've heard it's ok now but it's been a while since I've played, you might as well try it out. You'll know within a move or two whether their issues are fixed.

I hear you about the lagginess and that's a drag, and I'd prefer games not to use it if it will affect them that way. I see that becoming less of an issue in the future (it's still quite new). Also I really wish they had a more sensible-sounding name for the service :) Though Plus+ and Agon aren't much better..
I have a few Plus+ games and haven't seen the same performance issues. I like the features but it's just ridiculous how bad OF can be.

Certain parts of Infinity Gene had me thinking a bullet-hell sort of shooter could work well with that same control scheme. I wish somebody would give it a shot.
Well Cave is trying something with Espgaluda II, god knows what at this point though. I'm hoping for this:

It even has the proper aspect ratio for it!

Speaking of Chess, has anyone come across a PBEM Chess client for the iPhone yet? I've got friends around the world that I'd like to play with, but realtime isn't going to work.....

You need to watch that...

When I first started dating my now wife, she was at University. We decided to play by email, just sending the save game back and forth. She was surprisingly good, way better than I remembered. Turns out she was loading the save, selecting "Suggest best move" from the menu and then mailing it back :lol

Not worth £550 to me but damn I would love that :lol

Is anyone else having trouble with iTunes? I've been trying to get the free chess game on both my iPod and my computer and whenever I click on any app listed it says it can't connect.

I'm starting to hate open feint to the point of considering NOT to get games if they have it, in protest. I hate the use of the icon on the home page, the stuff itself is laggy and nearly always detracts from the games aesthetic.

Well, that's the developer's choice if they use OpenFeint on the game icon or include its aesthetic in their game. I was surprised that they don't require much of anything in how you setup their stuff. In Dungeon Solitaire we didn't put it on our icon (though we do use their corner button in our game). And Space Invaders Infinity Gene doesn't even use their corner button, it's just a text option on their menu like the rest of their options. So blame the developer for things like that, not OpenFeint (although, it does kinda suck that OF doesn't let you alter their buttons to fit in with your game's color scheme better - you have to use their button as-is or your own original art). As for lag, the only lag I've noticed in Dungeon Solitaire is when it first connects you, though admittedly a card game isn't very high-action. And I personally don't have many other OF games.

But the thing is, without OpenFeint our game wouldn't have online leaderboards at all, or achievements. We didn't have time/budget for any of that, and they DEFINITELY add value to the game. Far more value than is taken away by having a single off-theme button in the game and the opening OF screen.

Is there some way to add like a password screen or a confirmation screen on iTunes when clicking "buy". I'm worried that I'm gonna buy random apps in a frantic mouse-clicking orgasm.

Dont know if its been mentions by Tilt to Live is amazing. I hate the accuracy of most shooters but this has NAILED it - this is the iphone geometry wars!

You can add a shopping cart.

Other than that, I'm not sure. I know on my account, it's not autologin, so after a certain amount of time, if I purchase something, I have to confirm my account, but for a short while after that, I don't have to.

OK went ahead and made a fake CA account and grabbed We Rule.

Having never played any of the Farmville games, this could be a fun diversion for quite a while. :D

I love the aesthetics.

Added you. Come place an order with me!

I'm definitely digging We Rule because it feels suspiciously similar to the Zen Garden mode in the desktop version of PvZ. The "check in, tend to things, come back a few hours later" gameplay is quite similar. Since we didn't get Zen Garden in the iPhone version, I think this will suffice.

Anyone else not digging the Comic Zeal Reader update?

Am I stuck with that annoying alert on my AppShop icon when I refuse to update?

Yeah seriously now I can be annoyed by 2 apps in the update window (istat).
Glad I started reading the update notes...

I've only had a few minutes with it but I like it quite a bit, I even learnt that "gript" is apparently a word, and that "dicks" is a valid word in your game :) Where do you source the word list from, is there some sort of freely available list?

There's a lot of free word lists around the internet, can't remember where I got mine as I had to try lots of different ones until I was happy with the game. I started with one of the main scrabble lists but they have too many crazy words which made the game too difficult.

Yeah, 'dicks' is still in there. I had to remove a lot of obviously offensive words and some not so bad ones (Slags?). I decided to leave any that had other non-vulgar meanings on dictionary.com, so 'dicks' in this case is detectives :D

OK just had a weird We Rule issue. Was starting to run my kingdom, advancing levels. Added a bunch of GAF folks to my friends list and saw them in my game.

Turned it off for a bit then got a PUSH notification that some crops were up and ready. Booted intot he game and all I had was the ADD FRIENDS icon that usually at the end of your friends.

No Kingdom. Nothing. Deleted and reinstalling so we'll see what I get.

FAKE EDIT: OK we're back! =D

That happens a lot here. I think server issues or connection issues at one's end. Just restart and you should be fine.

It's not that bad.

Where's Godfinger? I know they sent it into submission a few weeks ago but it should have gone through by now. I want to play it

The Hero is so fucking fun. I'm up to the last boss now, he's HARD.

Can't wait to get into survival mode after.

BUY THIS GAME. Well worth the $2.

Yes gimme more feedback on controls etc.

Controls do take a bunch of real estate on the screen, but it doesnt control bad at all. Moves actually come out and game play is smooth enough for at least some very basic combos to come out. I didnt come into it expecting a REAL portable SF4, just a kinda hack version with limited controls etc... so far though its fun enough to be a fun, casual mobile version of the game.

The game handles normal moves, throws, focus attacks, regular specials, ex specials, supers and ultras. Not bad. Very short play time with it so just giving initial thoughts.

Combat is pretty fun on SF4! They really managed to make this feel like SF4 Lite as limiting as this platform is control wise.

Backgrounds dont animate at all, but the characters animate well and the sound is spot on. Bison servers as the final boss (yay!) and there are no endings.. rather you get a SSF4 hype vid...

Doodle Jump was the last iPhone game I purchased and that was around when it first came out. What games should I check out that I really missed out on?

In SF4 you can set how transparent the controls are, and move the buttons around, so they at least don't block too much. I do wish you could shrink the control pad.
