Is skater nation worth $1?

I just picked up dungeon hunter since I wanted it for a while.
I hated the lite for skater nation, it looks great but the physics side of things was terrible to me, so many times the game did not do what I asked and when it did, it did it poorly. Try out the lite first if you are not sure.

Decided to only buy EWJ tonight, can't see myself sleeping until 4am if I buy 2+ games in one night :lol

it's only a BUCK now? I think I have to definitely pick that up.. even if it's flawed, it's still a (relatively) stellar presentation. thanks for the heads up :)

(don't get me wrong, as a dev I am unhappy when bigger-production hi-profile apps drop down to nothing..)

Spent way too much time playing Tilt to Live on a trip to Costa Rica (fuck the rain forest). It's great, but your success in the game is almost entirely dictated by your luck in the power-up draw. Sometimes you get spike several spike shields in a row, just when you need them. Sometimes you get no shields at all for long periods of time.

Hoping they'll give the power-ups a bit more regularity and strategy in a future update.

Tilt to Live is Bit Pilot's poorer less-attractive cousin. Play Bit Pilot instead!

Another sale that started last night. The Transformers G1: Awakening strategy game is down from 5 bucks to 3 bucks.

http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/transformers-g1-awakening/id339831441?mt=8

I haven't had a chance to play it yet but reviews have been solid. supposed to be a good port of an older mobile game. plus nostalgia trumps all.

It's a super basic RTS, and it also happens to feature a mission that I simply can't figure out. I'd say it's worth it if you're a TF fan but not aside from that.

I know it's been out for while, but I just want to chime in and say that Civilization: Revolution is extremely awesome on the iPhone. I played it a ton on the 360, and they translated the experience perfectly.

I bought EarthWorm Jim, mostly for the nostalgia.

The game looks better than I remembered (I understand they improved the graphics), but the game is as mediocre as ever. Implementation of controls are fine, it's the gamecontrol mechanics that aren't so hot.

I remember back in the day, games weren't readily available in my hometown, so I would order from another city, or have relatives pick stuff up for me when they went to the big city (very rare). This one time, I had a list. My Mum came home with two games: Super Metroid and EarthWorm Jim. Can you blame me for thinking EWJ wasn't all that great?

Now that I have played more of the iphone version there are a few flaws with animation, either some are too fast, too slow or just broken compared to the original 16bit versions. Still it's a fun game for such little price right now.

What's the best version of Klondike for iPhone? I tried to find one today and noticed that there were hundreds of them so I'd appreciate some helpful suggestions.

I recommend Mondo Solitaire from Ambrosia. Lots of games, good stat tracking, not ugly.

JailbreakGAF, help me out. Theres an update to my carrier settings available for my iPhone, should I update? Will it affect my jailbreak? Currently on a 3GS with new bootrom with Telus.

This looks really nice, hopefully it's not too far from release.
supposedly they have one more thing to adjust and then it's done, so it could be like next week :D

Also I noticed gameloft stuck their 3 sports games into one app like a 3 in 1 cart, not interested though.

When are the people who called the iPhone not a gaming platform going to eat crow?
It's kind of funny that there are still people like that, because a lot of the people I know think of the iPhone as primarily a gaming platform. I expressed interested in getting one, and the reaction was, "Why do you need something else to play games on? You already have a DS. Just get a real phone like a Blackberry." They say a Blackberry because apparently that's what people who are serious about business use, and an iPhone is just for people who want a toy like a Gameboy. I suppose there is some basis for this argument, as the majority of apps in the Top Charts of the App Store are games, and most of the apps I've downloaded to my iTouch are games.

Well, I finally did it.

Sold both my PSP Go and DSi. My only portable/pocketable gaming system is now my iPhone.

Felt a little twinge of pain selling them (especially the DS - had an irrational love for the Ouendan games ) but they had been unused for months. I just can't justify bringing a dedicated gaming system out of the house for the 15 or 30 minutes of downtime I might have while out and about.

And my gaming time at home is mostly on the consoles (and talking on Gaf :)

Plus, the quantity and quality of iPhone games finally reached a tipping point a little while back where I felt i was getting a varied and robust library on a device that I know I'll always have with me and can realistically fit in my pocket - even if i become a hipster and start wearing skinny jeans.

Now to sneak in some Plants vs Zombies playtime during my work break. :D

I sold my PSP Go yesterday as well. I'm looking to sell my DSi. I haven't turned on the DSi since November. It's time to let go.

You're right, the tipping point is definitely here. Look at Chaos Rings! If that was a DS or PSP game it would have a huge thread by now!

I'm cautiously optimistic about chaos rings. I'd need to see more of the game, unedited, to get really hyped.

It was the release of the ff1 and ff2 ports plus video of the sword and sworcery game that just sealed the deal.

And, anecdotally, I took a much bigger hit selling the psp go compared to the dsi. Lost 120 on the psp, only 60 on the dsi.

Psp go bomba :(

Mondo Solitaire is great. I play it everyday. It says I've played it for over 600 hours but I think that's because the clock is still ticking if the phone is in standby.

Though I've had one bug where the Queen of Hearts disappeared on me :P

Yeah, I took a bath on the Go, but it would have been a lot worse if Sony had officially dropped the price. Thanks for that at least, Sony. :/

You're next, DSi!

I was forced into the tipping point by moving. I don't even have any consoles with me, so iPhone is my major player. I haven't touched the DS in ages also. The last game I played was Spirit Tracks. Now Zelda games are normally my favourite, but I deemed ST to be the worst Zelda I've played and that has disillusioned me further.

I would sell it, but I'm a Nintendo and gadget whore. Good times, Nintendo, you'll be there for the nostalgia, but I guess I've moved on... (until the next hardware).

Gaming is all about iPhone now.

-=-Hey iPhone GAF-=-

Just a nice reminder of our awesome iPhone Game List created by GAF members, and able to be edited by all! Sign your name on a particular game you like, or add your own game to the list!

It can be found HERE.

Thanks for this, it's exactly what I came into the thread to find. I got an iPhone last week, and so far my gaming experience ranges from 'not too bad' to 'who could possibly think this is playable?'. There's got to be something out there that can get a better reaction from me than that. So here's my starting point. Thanks again.

Has anybody played the Rayman 2 port and if so can they explain what the game is expecting me to do when it says to pinch the screen to strafe during combat?

Other than that the game runs and controls much smoother than I expected. Hope Gameloft decides to clone Rayman 2 for a Castle of Magic sequel.

Just a shout out for Earth vs. Moon, currently free. Kind of a missile command game, but with pretty good mechanics and a funny sense of humour so far (just played a few levels). Can't complain for free. Check it out!

You should all download this game! I bought it for 4$ and loved it!

On the subject of PSP and DS... I like having all three... there are games on all three systems that make them all worth it for me.

NGMoco's "We Rule" is now in the US app store. Looks pretty neat after 10 minutes of play. My We Rule gamername is the same as my GAF username, if you're interested. I'd like to see how this "neighboring town" thing works...

Brave but if they were going unused for so long it's sometimes worth making a little money from it before they drop in value even more, my DS was untouched for a long time and now it's my little brothers, him and my nephew play it and get their sticky fingers all over it, I keep the touch to myself :D

The iPhone doesn't have Korg DS-10 (or anything remotely like it). So it's not very smart to sell your DS in my opinion.

8bitone? I never used Korg but it's just an advanced midi keyboard with some cool features, right?

No, it's an emulated analog synth that's very close to the Korg classical stuff. Far beyond 8bitone, really. Mostly because Korg put their expertise into the product.

What's your plus name, KFJ? Mine's Tobor.

I would love to know if this game is good, but it's almost completely unplayable on my 3G. I mean, it just chugs along - after I laid my first farm it took about thirty seconds for the game to load the WELL DONE! message. I know nobody has to make games playable on the 3g any more, but you'd think that they would, eh?

I keep telling myself to hold on for July now, and whatever new phone upgrade comes then; no way am I wasting my upgrade now, just in case...

Are you playing over Wifi? Might be your connection to the servers.
