TEDD seems interesting, I am tempted because it looks rather fun.

Defend your girl friend, Kara against enemies and Upgrade the player, Tedd.

Yeah basically I'm doing whatever time I have before bed. Usually some Carrots at night and then in between things like strawberries and I pumpkins I think.

That looks pretty sweet... might have to get that. Go Rock Howard!

I just checked out a youtube video. The grammar is epic win.

Has anyone heard anything about Activision releasing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2?

IGN said it was coming but Activision has been mum.

The video looked awesome!

If you're the sort of person who is:

(a) looking for a real (non-Shanghai) mahjong game;
(b) can deal with said real mahjong game being in Japanese;
(c) hasn't already bought Hudson's very well regarded Mahjong Police for $10

...then I have good news! It's on sale for only $1!

So any impressions on the Transformers G1 game?

I've mentioned it a couple times, but:

It's a basic strat game, nothing too deep. You don't get to pick your starting guys, but as you earn energon you can bring extra guys to the battle (if you have Blaster or Metroplex on your starting team, anyway), if you are in vehicle mode you can't attack but you can travel further on the map. Also, if you happen to get Grimlock, you win. Guy's a monster.

It's at least enjoyable until mission 16. I've been stuck there for awhile now, and it's annoying. You get saddled with two guys who have range attacks, and they're fairly weak, so I can't figure out the best order to take people out. Aside from that, it's fun if you go in knowing that it's just a port of an old cell phone game, and it's got almost no story, etc.

Try the Lite version and see if you like it. Maybe you will, and you can pass that mission I'm stuck on...

Looks interesting. I don't suppose anyone knows of any good sites with the mahjong rules I can take a look at? I've had a look myself but there seems to be variations on the game and I haven't a clue which one to read.

I've always wanted to play it but it's looks so complex.

Hey guy, some quick question from a noob:

-How do I redownload a game I bought?
-Sync means it'll erase the applications that were there before and install the new ones, right? Is it possible to just add a new application?

Haven't tried it, but: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

It doesn't sound like something I'd have thought to try on my own. :lol

Don't know about the sync, but have you tried dragging them from your iTunes library applications area onto the 'pod?

Man, you'd figure Apple would come up with a better name to redownload than "Buy". I guess I'm spoiled by Steam...

Just click buy (making sure you're on the same account you purchased from). It'll pop up saying you've already purchased it and redownload. It's clumsy and un-Apple. I expect it to detect that you have it and hang the buy to a redownload button.

Sync just means make any changes since the last time you synced. It will not recopy over any games you already have on, just copy over new ones, or delete ones you've removed. Same with other media.

The concept with sync is that you pair your device with a certain computer. That device then becomes an extension of that computer. Let's say you have 100 apps, and you sync 60 of them to your iPod touch. They get copied over to the touch. Now anytime you plug in the touch back to that computer, it will check to see if any new apps have been added to either library and "synchronise" them. Let's say you downloaded 5 onto your touch, and another 10 on your computer. During the sync, the computer will receive the new 5, and will add the new 10 to the touch.

The same happens if you remove apps from the computer - it will delete them format eh iPod the next time you sync. HOWEVER, if you remove an app format eh iPod touch, it WON'T remove it from the computer - it just flags it to no longer sync that app.

Consider your computer as the homebase for your iPod, and the iPod is a selection of your homebase synced.

I think the 'sync' concept is a little unintuitive at first, especially if you consider the device as separate from your computer (comes from an early mentality as well as dragging files onto your device as if it were a separate storage device). Once you understand the sync relationship, it's much easier to fathom. I just consider my devices as a portable extension to my home base.

Store > Check for available downloads
Not very good, it says for me all available is downloaded but I know that about 40 app's are not on my computer from this account. they are all old and I CBA to read over my billing pages to find what I forgot and then manually redownload them.

hey all, couple of noob questions:
1) If I buy a paid app, does iTunes allow you to load it on two devices, say an iPod touch and an iPhone(or iPad soon)?
2) If I upgrade my desktop PC in the future how easy is it to transfer all of my paid apps? I assume you can just transfer your iTunes folder content, and not need to re-download everything.
3) In iTunes, Store>View my account>Purchase History allows me to see what I bought. Anyone know how long they backlog this? Online banks, for instance, typically only show the last 18 months or so of statements.

My next buy will be the Monkey Island remake, because MI was the favorite game of a friend of mine that died in January. Feel like I owe it to her to play through it.

But I'd like to play something in that similar style, but I don't know what else is available. Anyone?

1) You can load stuff to any number of devices synced to that iTunes, there's no limit on that.
2) You mean just get a new computer when you say upgrade? All the apps and stuff should be wherever the iTunes folder is. If you have iTunes organizing all your stuff for you (music and movies, etc) then all that stuff will be in there too. I've heard of issues with playcounts getting screwed up but I don't know the circumstances of that stuff (since I've never looked at that).
3) I have no clue but I'm thinking lifetime, for now at least. It might be somewhere in the usage agreements somewhere, but that's just a wild guess.

The gaf spreadsheet has Beneath a Steel Sky and Broken Sword, they look like they might fit the bill.

can't believe this isn't in the top 20...
Just played the lite version for a bit, seems pretty fun...but good god I can't get used to the buttons being the opposite of the NES standard. I just emailed the dev asking for a swap option, hopefully they're receptive to it.

It's probably not in the top 20...cause nothing lasts long there. The 26 in 1 thing is moving down...some other dev topped them with 50 in 1

For everyone living under a rock or not normally a fan of TD games, The Creeps is free today thanks to freeappaday.com and I highly suggest you grab it.

No point mentioning, as everyone should already have it. Anyone who doesn't is dead inside.

I've spent maybe 4 hours in the past couple days scouring the net and looking for and trying new iphone games. God damn is it hard work to find the good stuff... there really needs to be a better way to wade through the crap. And there's just too much out there for the websites to cover.

Anyway, I found some fantastic stuff, most of which may have already been talked about in this thread, but I figured I'd just mention them all in case they haven't.

I was surprised by the selection of excellent RPGs, actually:

RPGs

Undercroft
Website with video: http://undercroft.rakeingrass.com/

A straight up Might and Magic-esque game. Any first person party RPG fans, or fans of the style of World of Xeen really needs to check this one out! It's surprisingly great. The other games that company makes don't look anywhere near as good, which is strange, but Undercroft is certainly worth a look.

Sword of Fargoal
Website with video: http://www.fargoal.com/

This one has been talked about on here but I never got around to trying it until recently. It's a rogue-like, a re-make of an old game, and it's fantastic. It's extremely polished and a great, streamlined rogue-like that's perfect for the iPhone. The guy did an AMAZING job with the interface and controls... the whole thing plays perfectly.

Also, in case you have it but haven't played in a while, there was a sizable update recently so go back and check it out. :)

Battle for Wesnoth
Website: http://www.wesnoth.org/
Video of iPhone version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJWejVTspYQ

A massive, amazing sRPG-ish (like Final Fantasy Tactics, etc). Many PC Indie gamers know of this one (it's available for free on PC and MAC)... although the iPhone version costs money, it's absolutely worth it. There is hours upon hours of strong content (not just fluff), and it continues to be updated with more campaigns and tweaks. It doesn't look like it'll stop any time soon. This is probably my highest recommendation whether you play it on PC or iPhone. Just know that the iPhone version is a little bit cramped but you can certainly work with it just fine. This will also be available on the iPad at launch!

Another thing of note: The later campaigns, which I presume use different artists, have some legitimately good fantasy art. Something to keep in mind after you see the goofy-ish character art in the above video.

The Quest
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyUW3F9P7gc

Fan of Elder Scrolls (Daggerfall and Arena in particular)? Then this is worth checking out. There' a lite version, along with 4-5 expansion packs that add up to a ridiculous amount of game time. I have barely played this one but it seems solid, and more than solid enough for an RPG on my iPhone.

ACTION

Tilt to Live
Website with video: http://www.onemanleft.com/tilttolive/index.php

This has been mentioned on here before, and has been wildly popular elsewhere, so I just wanted to quickly name drop it as well. It's pretty much as perfect a game you could ask for, on the iPhone or not.

STRATEGY

Robocalypse
Website: http://www.robocalypse.com/iPhone/

I actually got this one for free when they had their special sale a couple weeks ago. It's a port of the DS game and it's a simplified and steamlined RTS. A lot of charm, a lot of polish, and great graphics. For the small asking price, it's certain worth a look.

ADVENTURE

Nick Chase: A Detective Story
Website: http://www.bigfishgames.com/download-games/4554/nick-chase-a-detective-story/index.html

Wow, I love this game. Somehow I had never heard of Big Fish Games before, an ultra crazy casual game developer that puts out a billion games a year. This is one of their first Hidden Object Games that incorporates a bunch of other puzzles and adventure game mechanics... AND it's story driven. If you're a fan of film noir or you're looking for a nice, simple, and polished puzzle/adventure game, I HIGHLY recommend this one. You may also want to check out Big Fish Game's latest Mystery Case Files game: Dire Grove available on the PC, not the iPhone. Especially if you dig gorgeous 2D art.

Also, make sure you check out these games that I know are already popular here on GAF:

Space Miner
Review: http://toucharcade.com/2010/02/06/space-miner-space-ore-bust-rpg-shooter-excellence/

Absolutely one of the best games on the iPhone... but you already know that, right? :)

Tumbledrop
Website: http://tumbledrop.com/

Beautiful, charming, fun. A great physics puzzler.

And to those that missed out on it, the classic 16-bit game, FLASHBACK, is available on the iPhone

Hello App Store GAF -

This weekend, all Adult Swim Games apps are on sale. Choose from titles like Amateur Surgeon, Five Minutes to Kill (Yourself), Meowcenaries and My Li'l Bastard. Plus, we just released a new game -- Floater.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joEP5iTwmXA

floateriphone.jpg

If you're in the US, they're all 99 cents THIS WEEKEND ONLY. If you're not in the US I believe they should be a corresponding low price. :) BUY BUY BUY!

The ones you mentioned are already on the GAF list and are among the more popular games overall. I wanted to recommend some that don't get talked about as much here (if at all)

It seems (rumour) that sega megadrive/genesis collection for iphone is binned

http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/Various/The+Rumour+Mine/feature.asp?c=19407

A shame, shining force noooooooo!

Also Zenonia 2 was submitted today, we could be seeing it any time now!

Sounds like they made the right choice, actually.

Despite enthusiasm for the concept, Sega has decided to pull the plug on the in-app purchase anthology. The decision had less to do with the actual game and more with general struggles the company wants to remedy in its general iPhone and iPod touch gaming strategy.

In short, Sega is completely re-evaluating its approach to iPhone games, and this just wasn't a part of that picture.

Before the tears start to roll, this is actually great news. Kudos to Sega for making quality a priority and working to deliver better games to the iPhone community. I know I speak for a lot of us in saying that I'd love to see well-made Sega games hit the device.

The previously released emulated games sucked ass didn't they?
Sonic 1 when released ran at a sub 30fps on older iphones but since they updated it back in november it runs twice as well, and easily keeping at 60 on a more modern device.

Games like golden axe and shining force were 30fps on the megadrive anyway, they would have been fine I guess.
