So after finally messing around with Chaos Rings on my 3G, I bought an iPad and got Geometry Wars: Touch. :D

As I'm relatively new to the iPad/iPhone gaming scene, what would you recommend for a dungeon crawler/RPG? I heard Zenonia was pretty good and saw that the sequel has been released. I'm also planning on getting Espgaluda II.
Sword of Fargoal if you're into retro roguelikes. I'd never played one before but it's really, really fun.

iPad version is currently on sale for $4 too.

Anything on sale is good to me! Any outstanding free games to check out?

Dungeon Hunter is my favourite dungeon crawl game.

can you take some screens/ give some impressions of how chaos rings looks on ipad?

just got tilt to live, slowdown kills it i'm afraid.

3gs

I have a 3G, and there's next-to no slowdown on the game. I'd try rebooting your iPhone, and if that doesn't work, delete it and reinstall, because it's a great little game.

I can't understand how someone can spend $500+ on an ipad and then complain that Chaos Rings should be under 10 bucks.

I mean, it's fine if you want to say that you prefer your iphone games to be bite-size like doodle jump so I completely understand if you don't want to spend 13 bucks on a game that requires more of an investment.

But actually wanting the game and saying "too expensive, will wait for a sale" is just ludicrous.

:lol why do you care so much if im trying to be a little budget conscious with my app purchases?

Since you obviously have put a lot of thought into my spending habits, I'll spell it out for you. I give myself about 700 bucks a month on my current income for disposable "fun money" which includes purchases for games, new tech toys, and apps.

700 - 600 (ipad + case + tax) = 100 for everything else for the month. And I've already bought about 60 bucks worth of apps on both ipad and iphone so far this month. 13 bucks now vs waiting until the month I get the 4G iphone when I'll have a fresh pot of disposable income.

Make sense now?

Was looking into getting the 3GS to make my games run better but now that we've all seen the next iPhone. I'm just gonna wait.

Is anyone running chaos rings on a jailbroken iPhone 3G and noticing lag? I haven't tried chaos rings yet but I'm just wondering if it's running better on a regualur iPhone versus a jailbroken one. SF4 runs fine for me I was just wondering.

Seems that there will be an Sword & Poker 2 soon...

Sale on Sword & Poker for $1.99

Discount campaign to celebrate the release of "Sword & Poker 2"(Coming soon!!).

Quick question: Wasn't it announced when the iPad unveiled that it would run iPhone/iPod Touch games natively? I seem to have read in the Chaos Rings thread that SE was developing an iPad specific version, and charging more for it. What exactly would stop people from buying and running the iPhone version instead? Thanks.

The iPad version will have better graphics, obvs.

iPad specific versions can look better, since they are not simply upscaling the graphics intended for the iPhones small screen.

Some games have small changes in the UI to work better on the bigger screen.

And some games also have extra features in their iPad version. (Damn you, Plants vs. Zombies, going to purchase this game for the third time once the iPad arrives in Europe../ grrrr).

But iPhone games WILL run on the iPad then? Cool, thanks for confirming.
Yeah, you have the option to run them at native res in the middle of the screen or scale to 2x, which usually looks awful.

I'm interested in hearing some impressions on The Impossible Game.

doesn't seem like it would be conducive to i-controls but would like to hear from someone who's played it

half the time i can't tell if the people in this thread are legitimately discussing games or just plugging one they worked on.

You should just chill out and play iMcBacon's Shooty McRad Dick Happy Fun Time.

It's a one button game. Admittedly haven't played the iPhone version but it's excellent on XBLIGs, I imagine tapping the screen to jump is a perfect way to play it.

Dammit. I really want Chayauce Rings but I keep telling myself to wait for the iPad version. But those pre-rendered backgrounds look so delicious!!

I recall Cocos2d engine had some problems running on iPad. Something within its engine core makes some bad calls. Not sure if this has been resolved yet though.

The iPad does run iPhone games natively at a zoomed resolution. So nothing is stopping people from playing Chaos Rings on the iPad.

Some developers are, however, releasing versions of their games rerendered specifically for the iPad and with additional effects to look better. In some cases, the difference is marginal. In others, the difference is huge.

Some developers are selling these iPad specific versions separately ($$$$$), others are releasing hybrid downloads that run the iPad version on the iPad and the iPhone version on the iPhone.

Is that some kind of Internet meme, or just the shittiest spelling of "Chaos" that I've ever seen?

Wow.

eh, at least the scene isn't currently as bad as when everyone was pulling a peggle. I really think:

a) there are fewer people with a "wait until sale" mentality now than a year ago
b) the sales are usually promotional now and not just random "let's shoot up the charts"
c) the sales are usually nowhere near as dramatic anymore. It was common before for a $7 game to go for $1. Not so much anymore.
d) the count of games greater than $5 and even more than $8 have gone up dramatically as well, and these games are even MUCH LESS susceptible to multi-dollar sales.

Overall the AppStore really seems to be stabilizing. You are seeing the big publishers like S-E, EA, Gameloft, Ubi, etc going with $7+ pricing including $10+ in many cases and sticking with it, and still seeing decent to great sales.

So for people who say "I'll wait for it to drop in price" just respond like I do.. "Yeah, that's really not how the appstore works anymore. If you want to wait an extra 1 to 2 months to save $1-2, more power to you"

iStunt is free today. I got this game a few months back and meant to recommend it here but never did. It is a 2D physics snowboarding game, but the courses are pretty crazy and it becomes more of a puzzle / skill game. The graphics are simple and basic but the controls (tilt based and touch to jump/crouch) are great and the game is a lot of fun, despite some challenging courses that require a number of tries to master.

Anyways, if you like fun games over graphics, get this well it is free.

I'm having a lot of fun playing Chaos Rings, Warpgate, Plants vs. Zombies, Mikado Defenders, and Tilt to Live - but the moment Sword and Poker 2 comes out, it'll be all I play until it's beaten to death.

Anyone know if I can play Charadium with friends and randoms? So far I can only figure out one or the other. Would like to invite a friend and play full games with other people.

Played Heavy Gunner for a few minutes. Don't think I can ever get used to games that require tilting all over the place. It's free today if you want to check it out.

Great news about sword & poker 2. Can't wait for it take over my life :D

Did any of you guys try Sonic 2 yet? It seems to run quite a bit better than Sonic 1 does on my 3g, must have improved the emulator. I hope they patch Sonic 1 with the improvements, but I doubt they will.

Edit: You know, I already take it back. I just had the sound off previously so it wasn't as noticeable. Frameskip can't hide the botched music and sound effects.

Just downloaded the new Angry Birds update. New levels and (finally) a new bird! The physics on the new bird take some getting used to, but it's definitely a good addition. Best $.99 ever spent.

Edit: v1.3 changelog:

- NEW BIRD! (YES, REALLY!)
- THE BOUNCY MATTRESS!
- NEW EPISODE BEGINS!
- 15 NEW LEVELS!
- NEW GRAPHICAL THEME!
- NEW ACHIEVEMENTS!

The Lite version even got an update.

Yet another Angry Bird update? I'll never be able to permanently beat it, will I?

What are some good tips for Tilt to Live? Getting around 100k but I'm sure that could be improved upon if I knew what I was doing. Really fun game, though not one for the subway so much.

Try to specifically go for achievements so that you unlock new weapons, and some of the new weapons you unlock will drastically improve your ability to score.

Thanks, yeah I noticed that. About 100 points in so I'm starting to put a bit of an arsenal together. What part of the cursor needs to be hit to die? I notice I get by with a good deal of grazing by people, which is nice but I don't know what exactly the hit box is.
