The Official iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming Thread

We need post #1 to have all the recommended games.
It's extremely difficult to find out, which games are awesome, and not just great.

Maybe even list them in genres.

I feel like buying a new game to round out my home screen and so far the most recommended games that I haven't got are Angry Birds and Tilt to Live. Which should I get?
I've played Angry Birds Lite so I know what that is but I'm a bit unsure on what Tilt to Live actually is. The impressions I got from this thread and the app store description is that it's kind of like a Gemetry Wars style game but you can't shoot and you tilt to move around. Is that right?
Yes. I like Tilt to Live a lot more, but then again physics-based puzzle games are some of my least favorite (and I can still appreciate that Angry Birds is quite good). I think you'll find most people recommending Angry Birds over Tilt to Live because it's just way more popular, but I really, really like Tilt to Live. Gives you that same feeling of playing Geometry Wars for the first time while still feeling totally fresh (tilt controls, plus your attacks are little bubbles you pick up that send out homing missiles, turn you into a buzzsaw for a few seconds, freeze everything around you, etc.). The only real question is whether you are OK with tilt controls. Took me a few hours to get used to but I quite like them.

just wondering about something, bought a bunch of games in my IPhone, can i use the same iTunes id to download on my upcoming iTouch? if so, what's the limit on this? like the same iTunes id for only 5 devices?

As far as I'm aware it's 5 computers with the same Id. The portable devices don't sync with the account, they sync with the computer, essentially.

I have a computer, an iPhone, an iPod touch, an iPod classic and an iPod shuffle all using content from the account and my account just says 1 computer authorized.

I just finished the latest angry birds update (3 stars). Amazing game and probably my favourite game on the iPhone.

hmm i have not been using the computer to sync, i just bought it directly on my IPhone, so basically, i'll just use my same itunes id on my iTouch and i'll be able to install the games on that with the same id?

RelentlessRolento - turn the iPod Touch off, and put it in a sack of uncooked rice. Then try it in 24 hours.

seppo
This method is quite effective. My ipod fell into a toilet (i was drunk and clumsy). The screen was completely white. I put it inside a bag of rice for a couple of days and it worked perfectly.

Yup! There is no limit to the number of Apple devices hooked up to one iTunes account, only the number of computers. You can buy an app (and any in-app-purchases) on an iPhone, download it on an iPod Touch, then an iPad, then a next-gen phone...

Did anyone get that 2111 adventure game? Or 1140 or something, the second episode of the game with four numbers

You mean, 1112? No. Probably never. I can't support those developers. Far too much time between episodes to make it worthwhile (more than a year for an iPhone game? Really?). If anything, I'll wait until after they release every single episode before I make a purchase. I like the idea of episodic games, but if you are going to go that route as a developer, you have to stick by a more disciplined schedule or at the very least communicate more frequently with the fans about what is going on with the game.

Back on topic - did anyone buy the Linkin Park game? I'm very curious if it has any merit at all, as the stigma of LP is making that $5 hard to swallow.

Err...you don't like Linkin Park but are wondering if you want to buy the game? The game stars linkin park characters, their music, etc. I don't get why you would want it if you don't like Linkin Park.

That being said, I haven't played it much, but it seems ok. I can't really give a good review though since I've put in less than an hour on it.

I'm confused about esplagodia (?). Is that the first title since it has ii in it?

espgaluda = 2003, arcade in japan, 2004, ps2 in japan
espgaluda 2 = 2005, arcade in japan, 2010, xbox 360 in japan, 2010, iphone

thanks to the clarification, makes buying games and apps easier :D

How is Rolando (1 or 2)? I enjoyed Locoroco Midnight Carnival on PSP. Is this anything similar?
Not really. It's a slower paced game than Midnight Carnival and runs at half the framerate, but it's still a very fun game. It's more of a puzzle/platform game than LR-MC was and focuses more on getting the set number of Rolandos to the finish.

Check out Soosiz while you're at it. It's also a different game, but I think you'd find it appealing (if you haven't already played it). Looks great and runs at 60 fps.

The framerate on Rolando is the strangest thing to criticise in the world. It's a great, great platformer. Number 2 is better still. Nothing like LocoRoco to play, as you control the thing not the environment, but it's a great game if you're a fan of the aesthetic.

I picked it up when it was on sale for $0.99.

I like the anime girl, but what's she got to do with the game?

Solomons Keep seems to be a nice little dungeon crawler, the general view seems to be that it's quite short, but there's an update coming soon. Cute graphics too.

I took a cue from Bust-a-Move and put in little characters to react as you play.
That one is actually based on a real person, you may recognize her from the Tester thread :)

Here's a little info. (Also) like Bust-a-Move, you have a stack of pieces descending from the top of the screen, you shoot your next piece up at them and match the colors to clear. The gameplay is very unique in that you can press any of the pieces to flip between front/back colors (each piece has a lip on the bottom so you can see both sides), and therefore you can set up huge combos and chains "Tetris Attack-" style. Make a big combo, as the pieces are clearing you can flip a bunch of the "floating pieces" which will slam to fill in the gaps, and get 2X,3X, etc chains.

Youtube again

I have worked on several games over the course of my career and this little $2 puzzle game is what I consider to be the best product I have ever worked on, pure gameplay-wise. But I'd rather hear what you guys think - if any of the neogaf faithful is interested in giving a brutally-honest review of the game I could give out a code, lemme know!

I'll give a brutally honest review.:) I'll even try it on ipod touch 1g, iphone 3g and ipad for ya.

Just got my iPad today, and so far I picked up:

Plants vs. Zombies
Geometry Wars
Mirrors Edge

anything else I should get? Still got around $15.02 left on my iTunes account to spend. If there are some games coming out that I should save my money for let me know as well. :D

What happened to Space Miner-age?!

Oh well. BTw, the GAF iPhone spreadsheet has The Creeps down as "The worst TD game". I'm inclined to agree, but it doesn't sound like best-game-ever material. Typo or vandalism?

Chaos Rings: worth the price or no?
Worth it and more. Buy!

On an unrelated note, I just realized that I hate tower defense games :\

I don't like them either, but give Plants vs Zombies a go if you haven't. It's the one that really does it for me.

I recommend Defender Chronicles and LastFront. Best I've played on the iphone so far.

something along the lines of oblivion would be great too

Not a recommendation, but this reminded that Bethesda were making an iPhone game. Did we ever learn anything about that?

Creeps isnt that bad. Its just not that great either. I think I just dislike td games. I find them very repetitive.

Marble Merge is free, for now at least. I I find it pretty fun. Its a unique take on bejewled/match 3 games.

Creeps is my favourite TD game. It actually has you trying to balance doing something while mowing down enemies (destroying terrain).

It has a very balanced difficulty, especially if you want to get perfects. It's not overloaded with crazy options, and I really appreciate the simplicity and whimsy.

Vandalism. It's my favourite (assuming that you don't count PvsZ), just a really good game.

is there a game that plays something like a portable zelda? something along the lines of oblivion would be great too
Google has turned up Zenonia. But after playing the free version... it's not all that Zelda-like. It reminds me more of a PSX A-RPG. Bad Engrish and all.
