Mecho Wars is a fun turn-based game in similar to Advance Wars. Quantum Collapse is a pretty solid RTS, it's about a year old but if you love those types of games I can't see why you wouldn't like it.

First of all, here's a list of all iphone tactical tbs games I'm aware of.

As for recommendations, it depends what you like about the genre. I'd recommend Military Madness: Neo Nectaris, and UniWar if you like straightforward tactical combat with no story or grinding to get in the way. I'd recommend Battle for Wesnoth and Reign of Swords but they are both superior on PC imo. I haven't tried a few of the ones I know of yet.

:lol I don't think it matters who you download from. There's been reports of iTunes account hijacks for years, probably people with poor security (logging in on public computers, installed spyware etc.). I wouldn't worry about it.
 
Anyone tried Rotten City?

Quite a cool little Action RPG (emphasis on the action).

You basically go screen by screen, each screen has a weapon drop that seems to be more likely, pick up money and try to survive, get to safehouses to save your game, stock up on supplies and what not.

Been playing it for a while today, and it seems pretty cool.

Not all of them, I find the acccelerometer a bit hit and miss sometimes. I've personally enjoyed:-

Driver
Enviro Bear
Jet Car Stunts
Racer (stupidly simple dodge the lanes game, but fun)
Rally Master Pro 3d
Real Racing (natch)
 
Ok guys, maybe you can help me. I currently have no idea where my Nintendo DS is, but there are games on it that I want to play. Since I can't play them, I'm going to need to find their equivalents in the App Store. I don't care if they're exact clones with a new set of paint or something inspired by but not quite the same, but can anyone help me find apps like:

1) Rhythm Haven
2) Elite Beat Agents
3) WarioWare
4) Advance Wars (this one I'm a little more picky about, I'd prefer something that's just AW with a different skin if that's available)

I know there's a Saturday Night Fever app that's almost exactly like EBA but with just disco music, but there's only like 4-5 tracks in that one. I'm really shocked that there haven't been more EBA clones, to be honest. Maybe because of music licensing? :(

Edit: Hmm, anyone here played "World of Tunes"? It looks just l like EBA but it uses its own music and has "boss battle" in it. HMMMM only $0.99...!

Edit 2: FUUUCK Saturday Night Fever: Dance! doesn't work with iOS 3.2 OR 4.0 DAMMIT ALL TO HELL
 
I have also noticed that there is no "Harvest Moon" clone in the App Store, and the official Harvest Moon app, by Natsume, is a fucking puzzle game of all things. WTF.

A friend of mine and I were wondering the other day, why hasn't someone tackled an iPhone version of Pokemon? It'd be the online Pokemon game we've all always wanted. Battle and trade over BlueTooth, WiFi, or even 3G. Make it a universal app and sell it to people with an iPod Touch, an iPhone, or an iPad. They'd make millions.

You can easily copy Pokemons battle system and mechanics, but its not that easy to build the character and the established monsters like Pokemon has.

Also, Nintendo happens. If they haven't made the Pokemon MMO we've been dying for, doing a game for Apple instead of for their own gaming platforms is an even further stretch.
 
Why the hell has Battle for Wesnoth not gotten much press? The game is awesome. The previous small button and and slow down issues were fixed in previous patches, and it's just an amazingly deep and fun TBS game. Go buy it, I've put like five hours into it so far and I've had it for less than 24 hours :lol

Well of course Nintendo isn't going to make it for the iPhone. I'm just surprised that some creative group of devs haven't come up with one yet. And it doesn't even have to be an MMO. Send a push notification to your friend that you want to battle. They accept. You battle.

I don't know how to code games for shit, but I can draw, and I can do pixel art. If any devs out there want to tackle this hit me up. I have a bunch of ideas for story, characters, monsters, settings, etc.

BfW is really great, I played it to death ages ago. Also has some good mods on PC.

So I'm looking for a new MP3 player, how good are any of the ipod touches at playing these games?

My girlfriend has an Iphone 3g and even plants vs. zombies gets a little chunky at times, I heard that the 3gs and iphone 4 both do even better (3gs better than 3g, iphone 4 better than 3gs) in terms of power

so what is the touch closer to?
 
The games which I seem to gravitate most towards are Tower Defense games, though whenever I do some searching I don't find anything new that seems good at all.

It seems Fieldrunners, the Star Defense, Sentinel games, GeoDefense, etc are all still at the top.

Am I missing anything?
 
How is Rayman 2? I mean, I can assume it controls terribly, but for $1 my love of the original might be enough to sway me to try it.

Any good suggestions on games that are visually impressive/taxing on the hardware and fun? My purchasing over the last year started to dwindle as I realized a lot of the 3D stuff wasn't as friendly to my 3G, but with a 4 on the way I'm ready to see what quality games I might have missed. Looking forward to being able to play some of my previous 2D purchases that ran terribly (Final Fantasy, for example) too.

The 8GB touch (which is 2nd gen) is similar to the 3G hardware but faster clocked. It's a good bit faster but it's not a "generational" leap like the 3GS and 32/64GB iPod touches are (both 3rd gen). iPhone 4 is faster and has the ridiculous screen among other things like the gyro. Another thing is that the older hardware won't support fancy new stuff like multitasking and the switcher and whatnot in iOS4.

If I were to get one now I'd get the 32 or 64GB...but I wouldn't get one now. If you can wait until September or so new iPods should be out, hopefully with the same specs as the iPhone 4. And if you were planning on getting the 8GB, they'll probably bump down the 3rd gen iPod to that 8GB/$199 spot.

And here I thought I had good news to gloat about with Bird Strike being shown in a CNN interview of Nolan Bushnell (about 2.33 in along with what looks like Mini Squadron).
 
Any awesome side scrollers / platformer titles?

I have been looking and saw the game super quickhook and am thinking about picking it up. Any good advice?
 
Super Quick Hook is more of a racing type game. You try to get through the stages and receive the best time. It's very fun and addictive nonetheless, you should definitely try it. I think there's a lite version out there.

the controls aren't too bad, obviously not being able to "feel" a control stick doesn't help but I am yet to encounter anything too frustrating... some camera issues which were also present in the dreamcast version I played.
the one big control issue I have is locking on to enemies, you have to punch the enemy and spead your fingers as if you are zooming a photo, taking your fingers off the "stick" or "buttons" is a bit sucky, but the frustrating bit is it takes me many attempts to get a lock on, I take hits while i'm fucking around trying to get a lock on... also once you kill the enemy you are still locked on to something, so you gotta stand there and pinch the screen 'till you're free again... it's really annoying.

it runs nicely and looks pretty good! not up to dreamcast quality but it actually isn't that far off, the textures don't look as blurry as the N64 screens i've seen.

the excellent soundtrack in pretty much intact, it doesn't really loop properly sometimes, and the track activation events seem a little iffy at times, meaning an action track after will continue after you've completed the action event for example.
I have found some sound effects have changed or aren't there aswell, you won't notice if you've never played the game, but an example is running on rope no longer results in the creaky/squeaky sound effect, or you won't get the little chime when you get all the times red health orbs.

is it worth a buck?

Has anyone played Omino? It's a cute little 8-bit platformer in the same vein of Mario Bros on the NES. The first two levels are free and the rest of the game is $0.99. I don't know how many levels/worlds there are but it was pretty fun from what I played. Really basic Mario clone. They need to fix the music STAT though, it gets stuck in your head but NOT in a good way! Haven't decided if I'm gonna take the plunge on the rest of the levels yet, kinda wanna wait to find out how many there are.

Also, Wolf Boy just hit the app store. It's also $0.99, which is on sale 66% off it's normal price. It's a side-scrolling beat-em-up game where as you kick ass you have a moon gauge that fills and when it goes full moon you turn into a werewolf. Just downloaded it, there are apparently over 40 levels and nobody's beaten it yet so it's well worth $1 from what I've read.

For those that care, the iPhone 4 compatibility updates to the Quest and its many expansions are starting to hit the App Store. Updates for 3 of the 8 or so expansions are already up. Nothing yet for the main games though, sadly.
