It looks the same as before. Doesn't look like they upped the res at all. They definitely added AA because that combined with the non-native res on the iPhone 4 makes it look like someone smeared Vaseline on my screen.

Ah, sorry to hear that. Looks way sexier on my 3GS though. I was wondering whether or not the iPhone 4 could pull a top-notch 3GS game with upped res + anti-aliasing because 4x the res AND AA would take a much beefier gpu.

Plants Vs. Zombies is coming to XBLA -- it's also recently been rated by German and US rating boards for XBLA specifically. I'm betting it's an announcement for that.

that is so.....amazingly disappointing.

Check out this amazing piece of baked perfection - a Fruit Ninja cake made by the wife of one of our programmers to congratulate the team!

Has popcap ever had a game not release exclusively on PC first?
I don't believe so.

edit: While I'm talking to you, Carrcassone is amazing! Thanks for pimpin it so much, it's definitely deserved. I've gotten my quickplay Elo(which i guess is the skill level?) over 1300 and nearing 1400. I love the way you think you know everything then a guy comes in with a whole new strategy and wrecks you. I've never said "oh you asshole" so much in my life these past couple weeks. Good stuff

Gorgeous.

Can't wait for Fruit Ninja iPad!

I can't believe how good Trophylite Rally looks, must be the best looking 3D game on the iPhone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCj-bVN6MJ8

I'm totally getting that as soon as it goes on sale.

edit:
The game IS beautiful BUT does not look like the screenshots at all. The developers have been emphasizing how great their 3D engine is so I bought into the hype, believing the bullshots.

Unfortunately, the game does not look like this:
mzl.sqaadnsg.320x480-75.jpg

mzl.gelegdsn.320x480-75.jpg

But like this:
photo.jpg

photo_1.jpg

(yes there's some jpeg compression, but even without it, the textures are still very blurry, edges are much more aliased and backgrounds are slightly pixelated)

Still an excellent game and still beautiful for an iDevice game, but if you claim to be "raising the graphics quality you should expect on your iPhone", it's not a good idea to combine that with deceptive screenshots.

Did you guys try Helsing's Fire? I just downloaded it, and it's been really good so far (I played around 30min). It's a kind of puzzle game where you move a torch in a room full of monsters and walls, and you have to choose the right spot so that you only illuminate monsters of the same color (using the shadows created by the wall). Dialogues are also really funny. There's are screenshots and a video on toucharcade: http://toucharcade.com/2010/07/12/unique-puzzler-helsings-fire-is-a-true-app-store-gem/

Yes, and I absolutely love it.

I've got a pre order running on the ip4 and am researching what games to get when it arrives.
atm I'm interested in:
-Espgaluda 2
-Canabalt
-Critter Crunch
-Tilt to live
-Plants vs Zombies
-Helsing's Fire
-Carcasonne
-Space Invaders Infinity Gene

is there a great place/site to find a list of quality ip-games, good reviews or could you just recommend me checking out some titles?

Thanks for the help!

oh great! new mode is really nice. i can see bullseye replace the arcade mode for me, i ll never beat my 109 score anyways! Btw is there a online leaderboard or something like that?

I like the new mode.

Something I'd really like is variety in the special zones. Right now, they're just around the edges of the goal. How about some zones between defenders? Or in certain specific areas of the field/goal that change in different setups?

damn, "a perfect browser" is awesome! someone posted something about it earlier, downloaded it for a buck and that thing kicks safari's ass all over the place. if you don't got it, get it asap

You're pretty good with those.

Other good'uns: Edge, Peggle, Words With Friends, Fruit Ninja, Drop7, Pix'n Love Rush, Space Miner, Spider: TSoBM, Flight Control, Dizzypad, Angry Birds, The Secret of Monkey Island, etc.

There's also a lot of other quality games I haven't even touched yet (SFIV, Geometry Wars, Tetris, and so on. People really love Doodle Jump... just sayin'.)

Edit: Helsing's Fire looks so fucking cool!

Faster, tabs, fullscreen view, etc. The new update for it supports iOS4 multitasking as well. Oh, and you can have it render "desktop" versions of sites that would normally only display the mobile version.

Anyone else think that the ball feels a bit more floaty in the latest FK Football update? It feels different to me than the original release and a bit less predictable as to where the ball will go.

Swords and Poker is a MUST. Amazing RPG poker card game, just as captivating as PvZ, strangely enough. Defense Chronicles is a great tower defense game, fantasy themed, VA, RPG elements, tons of challenge, 100s of hours of gameplay for a couple bucks (looks amazing on the iPhone 4 since you can zoom the levels out a ton and still see all the detail, each of the dozens of arrows, hundreds of enemies, etc). Great value on the gameplay for Swords and Poker too.

Touch Arcadeis a great site for info, and App Advice is great for news too, everyday they list a ton of apps gone free, and if you follow it, you're bound to find a couple good ones every month.

Bought the app after reading your post and so far I'm impressed. It's noticeably faster than safari. Given that it's $1, it'd be cool if the app ended up sucking. The only minus is that it doesn't have MAH RETINAS resolution.

They updated to Jabulani.

Hmmm they didn't touch the physics or controls in the update so there shouldn't be such a change, unless there is a big change in frame rate for you perhaps?

Are you "flicking" rather than "swiping"? If you "flick" so your finger is only onscreen briefly then it does become a lot more random.

Perfect Browser is really nice. Tabs and full-screen especially. I just don't like how Hyper Scroll covers up most of the arrows that direct you to the last page of a thread on GAF. Small complaint, I suppose.

Might be the framerate... if everything's a lot smoother (which it definitely feels like) then it's entirely possible I might misinterpret it as physics. No matter though... the game doesn't feel worse, just different. I'm used to it now so it's all apples :)

I locked the orientation on perfect browser and tapping the lock again does nothing, what am I doing wrong?

Tap it again, if not, restart the app.

Jet Car Stunts anti aliasing is pretty noticeable. Anyone try the DLC? I'm afraid it's going to be worthless cuz it will be ass difficulty.

Didn't work, thanks anyway.

Flick Kick Football update with the new Bullseye Mode has just been approved. Should propogate and be available in all territories over the next few hours.

Love your game. Which is weird, because I have no interest in soccer at all. I think it really nails something rare: a simple game with a lot of subtle control depth. It's like darts.

And that's why bullseye is definitely the mode for me. I've been playing it relentlessly, and it's great. My one complaint: The downtime for celebration messages ("Bullseye!" "3 in a row," etc.) makes you feel like you're being punished for doing well, even though you're compensated with bonus time.

And because the reload timing is different for missed shots, made shots, bullseyes, and 3-in-a-rows, you can never get a good rhythm going. And planning out your timing for moving targets is impossible.

If the ball reloaded in a consistent, zippy time-frame, my head would explode.

I complained about something similar before with the time attack, and yeah it bugged me a lot when trying out the new bullseye mode. It'd be nice to have an option to turn off replays and the highlight stuff entirely. The double tap to skip helped a bit but it still feels like it interferes with the flow of the game.

We have had some pretty consistent feedback about that, so I'm sure the team will address in a future update.

You can in version 1.1.

We made the improvement with the slowmo cam for Time Attack with the double tap to skip them and also the option to turn them off entirely. One thing to note is that it is a slowmo cam with the timer slowing down to compensate, and NOT a replay, so the player wasn't actually being punished at all. People just perceived they were losing time (which is of course still a problem, but a different one).
