The "Official" Japanese PSP Launch Thread (NSF56k)

Shit...All the lucky ones that can get one at launch:
I hope you do great posts with impressions, videos and music about the games !!! (specially you Maskrider)

And DCharlie and John tv. And bring the chronometer with you. We need to know about the friggin' battery life.

Wow...it looks like PSP isn't much bigger than an NGS.
Not at all. It's only wider than DS, but it's thinner and shorter. I actually think it has less volume than NDS, and definitely occupies less space planar space than opened DS. They both weigh about the same, though (around 300g, forgot how much exactly)

I didn't make this picture, but this was posted in another thread.
That picture is not really accurate, as it compares the pixel numbers rather than the physical size of the screens. PSP has larger pixel density than DS (smaller pixels) and it's screen is not that big compared to DS. PSP screen is about as big (or a bit smaller, not sure) than both DS screens combined - but it has larger resolution than both DS screens combined.

Nintendo DS weight: 275g
Sony PSP weight: 260g

The PSP screens is a little bigger than both DS screens combined. Also, 100% true about the resolution.

I think that they have increased PSP weight for about 10g in the latest update (doing that, they apparently solved the heating problem)

he PSP screens is a little bigger than both DS screens combined.
If it is, it's just by a bit - not as much as that comparision picture would suggest... PSP has a nice appearance advantage of the screen occupying most of it's front surface. so it doesn't look like there's lots of unused space - it looks as there's an actual ergonomic reason for handheld's size.

Also, that picture that compares photos of PSP, DS and SP is suprisingly pretty accurate. PSP should be just a bit smaller than it is on it's picture (compared to DS), though.

I heard the color of the XMB interface changes every month.
Interesting. Where did you hear that?

NDS two 3in +3in combined is bigger than psp one 4.3in screen. Whats more important is ds two screens are 256x192 resolution while psp is 480x272. Even if you put the two screens together the total pixel resolution is still less than psp one screen.

DS 256x192=49152

x2 = 98304 pixels

PSP 480x272 = 130560 pixels

Timlot speaks the truth. I did the same math that he did, both for size and pixels.
PSP screen area = 8 sq inch
DS combined screen area = 8.6 sq inch

I stand corrected!

there are a couple more at the site.
the carmodels of TXR look very nice.

That Tokyo Xtreme pic looks really nice.

I can't bring myself to care about the Bleach game, because it has no chance of coming to the USA :(

The fact that it is region locked is what is really stopping me from getting one. I think I'll have to wait and see if people ever find a way to break the region lock. If nothing has been found by say March or so, I'll probably import. Looks awesome.

TXR is going to be giving RR a run for its money visually. I can understand why NFS was delayed now, its behind all the other PSP racers by quite a bit visually.

I barely missed the window to preorder at shops around me. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any big chain electronic stores (like Bic) that are first come first serve on Dec 12. That's probably my last hope..

so is PSP region locked or not? :|

jiggle seems to suggest games are region coded by disagreeing with amirox.. dunno. $50 buckarooo? WTF!

games are not region lock.

btw i think jiggle was being sarcastic.

as for $50 games, we'll see, but PSP games in japan are at the same price as DS games.

where the hell is that video from? or rather how does that person get a psp. it seems to be in some back room.

also the guy browsed through images on psp, and it has that pic of ign cube editors being shocked and awe'd by nintendo's e3 2003 presentation. wtf?! :lol

You can touch and control an actual PSP at the showroom in Ginza, Tokyo

some people at Japan who bid those 500 PSPs (for donation) had already got theirs

Huh? what? where?

Wait a sec.

When we selected Game Share, the PSP went on a search for other players, but gave up when it found none.

any idea of what this is for? Is it like that DS functionality that allows multiplayer with just one game card?

EDIT: here si a pic of it

The IGN impressions are interesting.

Infrastructure mode means they plan on proper online, connecting to the internet. Adhoc for multiplayer seems a bit limited with only 3 channels - maybe to speed up searching.

Game share sounds interesting. Could be a one UMD multiplayer thing, or a way of discovering people in the area and what they are playing?

Autobooting into UMD sounds dumb though. Its a multimedia device, and I'd like to leave a game in there but also have stuff on the Memory stick. Hopefully there is an option in there (or via later firmware upgrade)

Not sure. I could've asked the hot girls working the floor, but they probably wouldn't have known either (they spent over ten minutes trying to figure out how to start up a DVD on the PSX when I demoed it there last year, only to realize that the system didn't even have a DVD inside).
