The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

Great Story

I've been playing with my 3 friends, one of them is black so he picks the black guy, no problem, but if you have heard of the saying that the black guy always gets killed first in these types of games or movies, that is correct. He is the only one to ever get attacked by the smoker, hunter, and tank, even when all of us are right around him, its been so funny, one time the tank jumped through a window, looked straight at all of us, turned and charged right at him killing him, I can play this game for hours, so much fun here.

For me - Vsync makes the shooting (well, mouse movement) feel sluggish, with Vsync disabled I find it more responsive, give it a go.

I do step one, then there is no actual 'download now' only install now, so I click that, it takes me to steam (same page), I click install now in steam, it does nothing.

Just activate a product on Steam and put in the code you were given.
 
Holy fucking shit. Expert mode is fucking awesome.

They should change Expert to Normal, Normal to Easy, Easy to Very Easy and have harder Advance and Expert difficulties :D
 
Just managed to play through it once with Zoe. So far this game is pretty kick ass with some great moments of all out hordes swarming you.
 
So I just got done going through the single player (already played multiplayer). I met the witch for the first time. It was kind of weird because it was in a decently populated area. I thought witches were in isolated areas.

yup its the same with all fps games with me though. i managed a whole 5mins of L4D with vsync on before i had to quit out and disable it, so much better mouse movement with it disabled. i can only imagine how bad triple buffered is

I'm running with triple buffered vsync and I'm fine.
 
So I'm having Xbox Live problems...Posting it in here because I desperately need my Xbox Live to work so I can download the L4D demo and play Gears 2 tomorrow.

Basically, some guy tried to set up a router on our network at school and screwed everyone's internet up in the process. I couldn't connect to the internet all day on my computer, but it was remedied by using Command Prompt and using ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew.

But since the problem, and even after I got internet access back on my computer, I haven't been able to sign into Live. The connection test fails at the DNS step. Any ideas technicians?
 
Just finished my first full team playthough and, unsuprisingly, the game's awesome. It's a little rough here and there, but overall.. hotness. It's a full on rollercoaster ride of quiet and chaos in just the right amounts. And because it needs to be said again, the AI director is incredible.

I love the little touches like the stat screen during the loading that ranks the performances or all of the players while the next map loads. :D Haven't needed the quick 180 yet, but I expect it to get rough on the hardest level. Making using it a necessity.

I'll be playing this way more than any other big game this Fall.

Ah I just finished another round and near the end we had a stretch of like no zombies, then all of the sudden they sent a tank, smoker, and boomer at the same time. Then immediately after they sent a hunter. :lol The host had it on normal so it wasn't really that hard.
 
Man, expert is sweet. I haven't been able to finish a round on it yet, but it makes everything so much more tense--so good. Advanced seems like a good comfortable level, though.

Once you get a good team expert is a lot easier. It does however depend on how "the director" is feeling ofc.

We had a Smoker pull me away into a Boomer then we got swamped with zombies, whilst a hunter was chewing on another teammates face :D
 
The demo only seems to get better instead of boring.

And that's singleplayer mind you, can't imagine what it 'll be like when someone gets the online component working.

That's one thing I'd like to see in updates though, a truly insane range of weapons. It being America, tons of stuff should be lying around.





Odd, I think Valve's gunplay is goddamn stellar each and every time. Especially now with the zombie animation and hit detection being so very realistic. I've honestly never had more fun shooting stuff than with this game.

the little "buy this game" features list that shows at the end of the demo says 10 new weapons. so I assume there's at least a few more primary guns and maybe some new pistols, plus possibly another type of explosive or two. I'm kind of hoping for another long range rifle, a different submachine gun/assault rifle, and possibly a different shotgun.
 
OMG this game is great. Surpassed even my expectations. Valve has another hit and a new franchise. Frontend issues aside I am absolutely loving Left 4 Dead.
 
anyone else using the server browser getting alot of 'lobby connections only' messages when trying to connect, or is that something todo with my gf's dorm connection?

so, anyone got a code going spare - how are you all getting ahold of them?
 
So...has anyone gotten online yet?

I played the single player which was fine but I really want to try this out with some other people and that hasn't happened yet. Got two servers that wanted passwords, two servers that wouldn't connect, and on my final try the game simply crashed to the desktop. What the hell is going on?

I really hope the 360 version sees some weapon expansion packs.
This is an area I'm sure the pc has an advantage, as I can see all kinds of different weapons pop up from modders. I'm hoping for ak-47's, p-90s, mp-5's, crazy ass lazer weapons that have seemingly no place in the game, grav-gun, flamethrower, deagle, assault rifle with grenade attachment, etc.

Where do you live? Seems a lot of Europeans are not able to connect to anything at all. I can join a lobby, the game can start, but then when it starts loading, it fails to connect after '15 tries'. Every single time.
 
So are the map layouts not director generated, just the zombie placements and spawns? Or is the demo a bit gimped in that regard?

I bit the bullet and bought it on steam. Usually I buy major purchases on physical media; I like having the product and all.

OH WELL. Time to play.

I'm in Tennessee. I've gotten the "15 tries" thing a few times as well.
 
I'm not even going to play the demo.

I'm at the point where if Valve releases a game I will buy it based on its concept alone.

have you tried the 'openserverbrowser' deal? like i said, my geef's behind a uni firewall and she can connect to any server that doesn't have the 'lobby connect only' thing going.

Me too. And I'm rewarded with a game that it took me 20 minutes to be able to join a server for.

Seriously, Valve, this isn't how you do things.

So... seeing as you support Valve you play their games on PC and pre-order them, and have a spare PC key? :D

Runs fine on my laptop with a dual-core processor, GeForce 7600 GO and 1GB ram.

In fact it runs much smoother than I expected. At 1680x1050 with the rest of the settings down. When I have time tomorrow afternoon I'm going to experiment with the settings, see if I can't get it looking better, maybe at a lower resolution.

I've tried that, but both in custom and internet, I cannot see any servers at all :(.

Try turning off the movie filter thing too, I hear it improves performance a lot.
 
Oh my god, the sound in this game is amazing! :D My headphones broke about two weeks ago so I haven't been able to hear anything for a while. I use my monitor for my 360 and get sound from my PC. Anyway, I got some new headphones in the last hour and played a game with them. Fuck! It's so freaking great! The sound really enhances the experience in this game. We heard the crying witch in this dark room (with pillars) before the final area so we turned off our lights and made our way through the dark. We were relieved to get through there without alerting her, but once we got into the final area her cries became louder and we realized she was actually in that room! Holy shit, I threw a molotov at her and she came running at me in all her burning glory and knocked me off my feet! :lol
 
Yeah, so I'm pretty sure I'm not going to preorder anything anymore from Gamestop. The code I "claimed" online last night arrived shortly after my "legit" code.
