It took me a while to figure out but the AI director really forbids you to stop and pop. Any time we take too long to pick off straying deadbies, we'll get ambushed on all sides with a millions and a hunter or smoker to top it off.

FUCKING awesome!

Man, quoted for emphasis. If you're not moving forward in the map, it's sure as hell going to MAKE you move forward.

Question: If you just stay in 1 spot holed up, will there be infinitely spawning waves?

Yes, they will keep on coming, it may take some time, but that's what I did at the end of the subway level before instead of going into the safehouse.

Game looks incredible and does stuff with Source I wouldn't have thought possible, yet runs even more smoothly than Episode 2.

Episode 3 should be suitably epic.

Just beat expert finally with saelz. Was fun.

Hunting rifle is my favorite. Can clear areas before moving. :D And it's pretty darn powerful, really only takes one hit on anything. Except Tank.

Also, I solo'd a tank on expert a few games earlier, my team cheering me on, and declaring to have my babies. Wish I recorded a demo or something.

Is that supposed to be some special feat or anything like that? I took out at least three tanks on my own, in the 2 hours me and my team tried to finish it on expert. I also took out a witch on my own. Best was when I beat a tank as a hunter was also in the room along with other zombies. Yes I'm fucking awesome and so is this game and omg i want to go ass to ass with it it's so good.

Every time I play L4D, I imagine what Ep3 will be like... rain, snow, giant swarms of enemies, epic animations, borealis, possibly a modified AI director.

Alright, not sure if there's been any extra codes handed out lately, but if one pops up, I'd be grateful. I could actually give you a Pub Games code for it..

How does one not get killed by those?

Simply strafing and shooting it accurately or what?

Upgrade shotgun + running backwards + having a good idea of your surroundings. You also need to make sure you have a good amount of health so you can move fast. Never stand still or think that climbing a train will get you out of danger, just constantly move and shoot. On expert it takes over two dozon shots witht he upgraded shotgun at close range to take it down. Attempting with any other weapon alone is probably suicide. Explosides are also not worth wasting on him. Save explosives for the rooms where there are a lot of enemies and throw it in the middle. Molitovs are good for the sections when you know the location they come from.

And while it doesn't work with the super zombies, this is a golden rule you must follow: USE MELEE. Love the right mouse button. You can knock enemies back mid reload, you don't damage your team mates, and if you time it right you can get your self in a corner and survive by simply pushing them away and firing back.

I've been wondering a bit myself if they might use the Director in future single player titles, at least in a modified form. Might clash too much with their carefully orchestrated scripting, I suppose.

It would have to be _highly_ modified to meet the standards they aim for in the episodes.

Practically every second commentary node talks about pacing. So they wouldn't use it in the episodes. Maybe a new game down the track - none of their current titles could make use.

Now... is there a spot in a level with only 1 entrance?

Could make a mini game out of that.
hmm...probably something towards the beginning of a level. Through throughout the levels there are some closets and such with only one entrance.

And expert is the only way to play. Moving down would feel so wrong at this point, it would be like the Disney version of a zombie outbreak. I want that intense struggle to survive, that raw shit you don't get in the weaker levels. I want to watch the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Then I want to look that big storm right square in the eye and say 'Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it.'

Not all of us are zombie-killing savants. :P

Barring the occasional lag issue, this is the most fun I've had in a long fucking time.

We (Oreoleo, JoeFu and a buddy of mine) tried expert a few times, but could only make it about as far as the end of the subway trains. A tank, in combination with a hunter/boomer/smoker/etc. would usually demolish us at that point. I like the challenge of expert, but I think advanced is a nice way to go, too. There's enough tension to make it entertaining, but nowhere near the (occasionally) frustrating difficulty of expert.

I think they have to be good at FPS's first :lol

To be fair, I have been playing this type of game since years ago with the sven coop mod for Half-Life 1. This is obviously more advanced and awesome than the old mod, but the fundementals are still basically the same.

And for some reason every time I played I was mos def.

If an extra code just happens to fall in someones hands I'd be happy to receive it :D

Can I still get a code if I go and reserve it tomorrow?

Just had a quick shot at it on solo and whatever the default difficulty setting was. This game is fucking awesome!

Ran as smooth as butter on my setup, 1920x1200 with 4xAA and 4xAF.

OSG, myself, and a couple other people I know managed to beat it on expert twice out of about 20 attempts. expert makes the different guns worthwhile. on advanced you may as well just use the assault rifle for everything, but expert makes the hunting rifle incredible (even without the scope) and the auto shotgun allows someone to take point and survive pretty easily.

I've been trying to convince one of my friends to get it, but he's being a fucking loser. I hadn't even thought of gifting it. I seriously might do that for Christmas.

At the end of the first level you can hole up in the safe room but leave the door open. In fact, one time I made a point of waiting until everyone was there, then scampering back, shooting a car in the street above to set off its alarm, and then running back giggling with a horde of zombies chasing me, only to slam the safe house door in their faces.

Me and 3 friends played all night. Server issues aside the game is awesome.

We beat it on advanced first with like only a couple of tries. We then tried expert.... that took awhile. We barely beat it at the end with two survivors limping to the safe house.

For me the ending was the easiest part, it was complete hell at the start though.

Also Friendly Fire is the worst enemy of all. :P

Played an hour or two tonight, it was a lot of fun. The attacks really felt random, I often looked behind the group, wondering if zombies were going come running up from behind.

It was very tense in spots, especially when we snuck by a witch to get on the train. She was still sleeping, but a horde of zombies ran up from behind, so we naturally started spraying bullets, so we must have woken her up. The music hit a panicky note, and the witch ran into the train. We ran back and forth in the cabin, spraying like maniacs and dodging her deadly attacks. None of us actually got hit :D

No doubt, so many times I'd be at 80 health, and then take a shotgun shell to the head.

"Dammit Zoey, you gotta stop doing that shit" or something

Very very unique game. First time I've ever really needed to watch my line of fire and make sure I wasn't stepping into someone else's. Obviously this will be best with people you're used to.

Expert is probably the best setting, even Advanced feels slightly too easy. I'd rather never win in Expert than get to the end every time in Advanced, it's that much fun.

Tanks are fucking indestructible though.

If anyone could toss me a 360 code id have there babies, well maybe not but you get the jist. No preorder program over here in the uk you see.:lol
