Damn you have to preorder to play the demo even for steam huh? I know i'm going to get the game but really wish they would've let the demo be free. Really want to try the game out with a good team of survivors.

Nov. 11th

Also Subway run is up.

A close call and a not so close call for someone at the end. :lol
So far Advanced is tiding me over. I'll upgrade to Expert soon enough.

*What are some other good alternative video sites that offer good quality video?
60fps is a huge plus.

Spent a good part of the evening getting used to the game with the bots. So awesome. It'd be nice if there were a difficulty between Advanced and Expert for those of us who aren't masochists, though.

Time to get my mic working.

You can, next week. This is just early access to the demo for those of us who pre-ordered, not exclusive access.

Rushing the first bit on expert is so easy it feels like cheating, obviously sometimes it doesn't work out due to the random nature of spawning but probably the majority of the times we make it to the end of the apartment section with all in green health. 1 person just jumps off the roof down to the vents and sprints to the end while the others make their way through the apartments where all the zombies are spawned. When the sprinter makes it to the end shoots the car alarm and they all spawn around the end where u can just shoot them through the little hole and then the map is fairly empty and easy to run through for the other 3, can probably even run back from the safe point if you want to.

The subway on the other hand is still pretty crazy hard, but having that extra health and maybe even a few extra heal packs makes a huge difference.

I need to play the demo with some people who know how to play. I haven't played it more than a couple times but I haven't had any teamwork going on in my experiences. Most people just run off on their own and do their thing.

When PC gaming, at my PC, I use a Plantronics 770 headset and am very happy with it, seems to get decent reviews also.

11th equals free demo for all? I'll have my headset ready.

2nded. I've needed a mic for way too long now and L4D is finally going to put me over the edge.

Logitech USB mic.

Fantastic clarity, range, looks, price, warranty. No drivers either.

I got a refurb on eBay that looks brand new (2 actually, I got one for a friend) for $22 shipped. $11 for an awesome mic. :D

I'm looking at you, JSnake, Hazaro, and Zzoram. ;)

Going to buy it tonight. How's the demo?

I really like the demo. Servers are a bit wonky at the moment, a lot of times we connect to laggy servers, but hopefully they'll improve the server selection with the data they collect from this advance demo.

I've played with JSnake several times, and I'd like to play with you too.

Does anyone know if you're able to play with friends AND strangers? For instance, I only know one other person who is getting this game that I can play with online. It would be really awesome if we could play co-op with each other as well as play with two other real people online. All I know how to do is just play with each other and also two AI characters :(

Can't you wait in a lobby or something?

The only thing I did was hit Quick Match and I joined a game with 3 other people.

Waited about 10 seconds, then it connected to a dedicated server.

Create a public game, invite a friend quickly, and you're fine. Private rooms can only be joined by invite.

use the server browser and never join a laggy game ever again, around 70% of servers now have the variable enabled to allow browser joining in my experience

beating expert on the first go without the director making it easy and giving you the better weapons etc is refreshingly tough, only managed it about 3 times, great stuff

man, i hear that. it's been so long since i've played a progressive (single player/co op etc) game that actually feels like a GAME, in the classical sense that it is a challenge that must be overcome - rather than a interactive story where you just bumble through the triggers.

I've been trying to play with fellow GAFfers, I felt bad constantly inviting you into a game that wouldnt connect to a non-password protected server. Well the good news is that I've gotten better so I'd like to go for a few runs with you. I hope there is a reputation system in this game because I'm a fucking saint. It annoys me to no end getting stuck with a guy who's hogging a medic kit and pain killers while his other three teammates are limping.

What was the command again?

Also what do painpills do, I forgot. Do they relieve that limping or 300HP bar, or that 30 HP bar?

Good golly miss molly. We made it to the end of the demo on expert, destroyed 2 tanks and a witch along the way, wiped out the horde at the end and we all survived. The last gunshot rang out and the few remaining zombies collapse. Wounded and limping, we climbed the last set of stairs.

"Thank god, the safehouse! We're gonna make it!"

4 feet away from the door the soundtrack flares and in the blink of an eye we are swarmed by a flood of zombies pouring OUT OF THE SAFEHOUSE. 3 of us go down instantly, but Louis hops the rail and makes a beeline for the minigun, only to be caught at the last second by a smoker across the room.

We respawned at the beginning and all sat there laughing for several minutes before setting out again. This has to be the only game where getting completely slaughtered is just as much fun as winning.

They give you temporary relief from the itching burning sensation of bite wounds and massive bloodloss :) It's a modest boost your your health that ticks down over time until you heal properly with a first aid kit or complete a level. It doesn't effect the downed (300hp) bar.

Playing on 360?

I'm on PC, played over a dozen games, haven't had a single team that didn't constantly stress sticking together. I can't wait until it's common knowledge for the guy in front to duck.

Oh god this is genius :lol

I tend to stick to the left wall personally.

even on advanced it feels like the assault rifle is far and away the best gun. I think it's only on expert where all 3 of the upgraded guns are worthwhile. The auto-shotgun is way better than I first thought, although I think the best use of it is for the guy standing behind the person in front ducking, to back them up. Plus then if stuff comes up from behind, you can swing around and blast it quick.

Yea, adding to that...people that do have the sense to duck when they are at the front should learn to STAY DUCKED....I can't count the number of times where some dude is ducked in front of me and decides to suddenly stand up and get a full shot gun blast to the back of the head.

Wow, i know that normal is not hard enough etc...but playing only pistol and meleeing on normal is fun as all hell.

My team made it to the warehouse and beat the horde, but we decided to just have fun and you could tell the AI director got pissed since we didnt go into the safe room. It kept throwing smokers and hunters and hordes at us and we even decided to run back thru the course in reverse and that was fun as hell too..cannot wait for the full game.

Create an invite only game first and then get your friends to join.

Once they join change the game setting to public and then wait.

Honestly winning feels hollow half the time. The spawns are so damn random. The game is fun when it tries to rape you. It's boring when it doesn't.

There was mention of an Insane mode right? I realize this is just the start of the game, but Expert is yawn worthy until the ammo dump in the Subway. The biggest challenge is idiot teammates running through you while you are shooting. Well, that and me shooting Louis in the face because I always think he's a zombie.

"Epic Mode" Apparently.

Hopefully we can get 8 or more survivors going at this.
It's a real shame the demo isn't longer, but at least we get 2 instead of 1 level.

Well it's the first level of the game, which by definition is going to be the easiest and don't forget that the subway level doesn't end in the same place it does in the demo, that's more like the halfway point.

I suspect that's because the demo is only like, a third of a level. Playing the same tiny map over and over probably has something to do with it. Each successive section gets more and more intense culminating in a massive final showdown, so I'm sure victory will feel more than well earned in the final game.

What they said. Remember that it is continuous and, presumably you would get low on ammo and supplies while fighting more and more mobs.

At least, I hope.

If not, mods will solve it anyway :lol

I like how if you're really hurt and on the verge of death the screen turns black and white. I think it's only happened once to me but it added a lot to the atmosphere.

I was down to 2hp on my last legs of the 300hp thing, screen was pitch black except for an outline.

Luckily I lived :D

It is indeed a very cool effect. When the world warps back into colour, there's a brief "wobble" in my vision.

Is this a multiplayer session or are you playing with AI?
Multiplayer, those shouts were people shouting down the mic. Just goes to show how much people get involved with the game, if you get a good group you get a real sense of teamplay.

One notable exception was when we were half way through the underground and someone runs over to a witch, flashes her in the face and shouts "LEEROOOOOOOY JENKINS!". He didn't do it again though, and it was worth it for the lolz :D

Anyone finding themselves laughing uncontrollably when something stupid happens or when your team gets run over by zombies and you may have accidentally helped the zombies?

I had a funny moment where I was the only survivor running away after a horde attack. I had a health pack and I was using it near the escalators and a fucking smoker comes out of nowhere and kills me. I was slightly around the corner too. It was just ridiculous.
