The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

I just tried to pre-order on Steam and it said an unexpected error occured, WTF? I've never had this happen before.

Apparently my credit card was declined, even though I'm nowhere near my limit. I think it's because I bought Audiosurf less than 24 hours ago, and the bank is suspicious of multiple separate online purchases from the same place within a day.

This is why I love PayPal. I've never had an issue with PayPal in my life.

anyone else running into this invalid code problem? I've already tried twice and I got nothing.

Just to make sure, are you trying it for 360?

If so, it's not active for another....what, 3 hours?

Neither have I, but I still don't trust em. They do make things easy though.

Seems Steam just hates cards.

Blast. I keep getting my credit card declined, even though I have more than enough. Seems I'm having the same problem as some others. Is there a way to get around it?

Early access to the Left 4 Dead demo begins Thursday, November 6 on both the PC and Xbox 360. The early demo access is scheduled to begin around 2 am PST on the Xbox 360 and 7 am PST on the PC.

Odd.

Oh well.

Some interesting info case anyone missed it otherwise, from dedicated server files.

-The demo maps are the Apartments and the Subway of No Mercy.

-Valve wasnt line when they said each would have over 1000 lines of voiceovers
(these include coughing,grunting,laughting, etc)
Bill: 1,045 lines
Zoey: 1,368 lines
Francis: 1,239 lines
Louis: 1,007 lines
and the NPCs (finale radio voices and others) has 182 lines

-Split Screen is available for the PC Version also

Info Thanks to 411

How do you have 2 people play on the same PC?

Why did Valve put such a gap between the versions? im guessing 360 owners get early because they still need to download i guess.

cant wait!!!!!!

Even so most demo on 360 even ones over 1 GB only take me 10-15 mins at the max.

The M.O.B said:
wow, im at 40% on my steam preload, has been about 1 hour,....................... time for sleep.

Also... The bad thing is if a lot people try to download the demo on 360 at the same time odds are it will be very slow downloading :/

Wtf GS, where's my code :(

Read on the 411 forums where this "originated" (?) that supposedly, it can take up to 38 hours.

So if it still works, some of us might not get this til Friday. Lol, 1 less day early.

Oh crapples, I have my second last uni exam tomorrow, so will be 26 hours before I can play, steam preload downloaded and ready though :D

Someone want to remind me why I should be excited for this game? Of course, the premise of a co-op zombie shooter is a good one, and the developer is top-notch, but what does L4D do in terms of innovation? All I've heard mentioned are procedurally generated enemy spawns.

In my mind, I've built it up to be a cross between Counter Strike, Serious Sam, and Diablo. Those 3 games have gotten some people though almost a decade of PC gaming, so L4D should keep your average FPS fan busy for the better part of 09. The mod support won't hurt either.

I've never played any of those. I'm equating it more to games like Half Life, Dead Rising, and Hunter: The Reckoning. Although I'll admit I haven't played a game that combines co-op, first person, and zombie shooting, the gameplay doesn't seem to be anything new.

....... you're not serious?

OK, I played Counter Strike and Serious Sam on Xbox, but disliked both and didn't play them for long. I know they're probably better on PC, but I never bothered.

It would explain why L4D's obvious quality isn't readily apparent to him.

You misunderstand. I don't doubt the game's quality, in fact I fully plan on buying it and think it will be a great game. It reeks of quality, but I don't see much innovation. Basically, what can I tell my friends to get them excited about it?

Yeah, I can imagine how that would've sucked somewhat.

Them being 'probably better' on PC is an understatement though :lol.

Man, fuck innovation. Tell them to play some Wii shovelware if that's what they're looking for.

The thing is, who needs innovation when this concept has never been done well before? I've wanted a game like this since the first time I watched Dawn of the Dead. A game that's serious about its premise and incorporates coop as a core feature. Not to mention the added superior Valve gunplay.

The AI director is pretty innovative though, it even works on custom maps!

yeah, no innovation whatsoever.

you can just get your friends together and plat the OTHER 4 person co op shooter with dynamic ai that changes the experience everytime you play, or allows for humans to play your enemies.

FOH

Why does it have to be innovative? =/ Tell them it's four player co-op by one of the top FPS developers in the world.

Seriously. Four player co-op + Valve. You cannot go wrong.

Tell them what you told them about Halo 2 and 3 being so innovative to get them excited.
