Left4Dead 2 map demo >>> Gears of War 2.

Jesus Christ, this game. I am popping serious game wood.

:lol

I played the demo all afternoon, and then popped gears in. The whole time I was playing gears, I was just thinking about how much I want to play L4D.

Just played the Left 4 Dead demo twice with a friend. Different both times. And different from the two times when I played by myself.

I'm wondering about enemy types though. How many more enemies are there in the final game? In the demo we see the Muscle things, Witches, Hunters, and Smokers...And that's all we've seen in trailers and previews. What else is there?

There are the boomers as well.

Do you have to shoot the zombies in the head to kill them in expert? I've been obsessing about that lately for some reason. Maybe it's because I read World War Z:

But enough about all that; let's talk about the most important aspect... zombies! From what I can tell, the zombies in World War Z are not only of the fast variety, but they're tough and extremely scary. There are scenes where zombies punch out car windows and drag people out into the streets to feed on them. They're turned by a virus but, unlike 28 Days Later, the virus kills them and then they are somehow revived in a primal state. They feel no pain, or fear and are only killable through the ever important head shot. Hmmmm, what else...They can breath underwater, and are often used in terrorist attacks (I'm not kidding).

Killing a zombie with a shot to the body just seems... wrong.

What copy of World War Z were you reading? The zombies are not fast in WWZ.

And no you do not need to headshot in expert.

True, but with the amount of zombies on screen at any one time, requiring a head shot would make the game impossible.

This.

Also who's up for re-creating the whole box defense, where we all stay up for 10 hours straight and plink slow zombies in the head with the AR? :lol

This. And zombies are in no way portrayed to be terrifying or scary in WWZ.

Only if there is some one behind you ready to tap you out and take over the keyboard.

No, but the zombies in 28 Days Later didn't need to be shot in the head either. These were directly inspired by those zombies.

:lol I'm guessing instead of ammo and water runners we'd have dudes with poopsocks ready for our use?

Well it depends on where you are playing. I am sure if there is some one to take over your position then you can just go to the bathroom and ransack the fridge for something,

after playing the game, I can't imagine how crazy the farm/cornfield level is going to be. I need the full version now.

Just curious, how's the loadtimes in the PC version? They're are quite lengthy in the 360 demo.

p.s. I've already pre-ordered BOTH versions and have no intentions of cancelling either. This game will consume me.

On my WD6400AAKS (90MB/s Read for comparison) for the Apartments it is about 10 seconds?
Just guessing here.

I dunno if it's been mentioned, but playing with random people is actually kinda cool in this game. I mean, that's kinda how it would down in a real zombie apocalypse, you'd just have to work with whatever retards survived.
I like it. Scrabbling together with a bunch of morons is a lot of fun really.

My WD3200AAJS can take up to a minute. :(

Well I'm just guessing, Why don't you ignore that comment.

I told you to invest more in your harddrive you know :p (Unless it's the single 320GB platter, instead of dual 160GB)

This server had an AI bot following the four humans.

Just where is the Smoker that grabbed me? On the other side of the train :lol
November_8th1.jpg

This Smoker is a long ways down the tunnel behind me, but the lip of the tunnel roof held me there while I squirmed and struggled.

A Tank did this to me.

I think the tongue got caught on something.

Worst case scenario: You're lying on the floor, you've been barfed on, and a Hunter is sitting on your chest.

The moment the round ended.

Glancing at the witch before the team moves on.

Vomit in my sinuses, blows to the head, it's headache time!

It's the one with the 8MB cache. I think that's the dual platter one.

I read WWZ a few years ago, and the only thing I remember about the zombies was that I would shit myself if I saw one in real life. It looks like the quote had something to do with a WWZ movie script. Yikes.

Also, I'm echoing some other Gaffers' sentiments about dying, it really is a hell of a lot of fun. Each round has a thousand different little stories and close calls, so winning or losing becomes less memorable.

Yeah it's a nice drive :D

30 seconds on the dot, 30.07 if you factor in reflexes, sure didn't seem like 30 seconds to me though.

Just Wow, just got done playing a marathon of L4D on hard for the last 2 hours or so..never made it once, but hot damn i never got pissed off or upset or anything. Just really laughing my ass off and in sheer terror everytime we went thru the tunnel. There was one play through where i was on my third strike and down to my last 1 hp and yet somehow i ended up protecting my teammates more then they ever prottected me. Took out a horde on a subway train and a tank all with 1 hp, that was so awesome and the moment i became hooked on this game i think.

I just timed it for myself and yeah it's about 30 - 40 seconds. Weird because your drive kicks the pants off mine.

I looked at the comments about the WWZ script and it looks like the fact that the zombies were slow and unyielding is what made them so scary in the book. So maybe there would be room for a mod where instead of moving forward you would constantly be driven back as you are eventually overrun by slow moving zombies, and where the only goal is to survive as long as possible. It would be similar to Max Payne 2's phenomenal Dead Man Walking mode or a survival horror game.

This is what I mentioned in the other L4D thread.

I want slow moving zombies and plinkin! (Seriously the guns are LOUD, especially when I'm firing dual pistols so much)

I figure they could make the zombies have 250 HP and make body shots do 5 damage, headshots doing 250 via some modifier.

Also since custom maps are already supported :D One step closer.

Had an epic game online.

Expert is the only way to play. I was Bill, we were up to the "last stand" bit in the demo. We were shitting ourselves going into it, because we could hear the witch, but we couldn't see her anyway. Anyway, we found that she was DIRECTLY OUTSIDE THE SAFEHOUSE.

So we cleared the room out and got our shit together. I was on the minigun, Zoe and the black dude were watching my ass, and Francis was sacrificing himself for the good of the team. Black dude had the pipe bomb out, Francis hits the gate switch then turns and shines the flashlight on the witch on story 2. Black dude throws the pipe bomb next to him, francis goes crazy with all his weapons, gets surrounded, pounced on by a hunter, and the witch charges at him. Zombies fucking everywhere.

MINIGUN DOWNRANGE!

I killed the witch, the hunter, Francis, and about 40 zombies, who all ran to the pipebomb/francis.

Then we bolted for the safehouse.

I wonder when Valve is going to implement Live's player rating and reporting feature. Of course, that can be abused as well, but they could allow you to record gameplay that could serve as evidence.

Dear fellow survivors,

Sorry, I got a little careless. They've got me on the floor. I appreciate you coming to my rescue. I think, however, that it's in the best interest for the both of us for you to help me kill off these zombies CURB STOMPING MY FACE before you begin to revive me. Thanks a lot.

Your friend,
me

P.S. Turn off the flashlight when you hear the witch crying, will ya?
