The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

My friend and I have already put in over 6 hours on the demo - 360 version. We've passed it on expert multiple times now, just the 2 of us.. normal is weaksauce.

Cannot wait for this game. And the fuckin' AI director is just sadistic at times.

Only downside to the 360 version is that you can't use mods. The port runs flawlessly.

"The team has also been conscientious about tuning the game to match the playing environment of the 360. Yes, a subtle amount of aim assist has been added, but it's unobtrusive. You also get a quick turn to flip around at a tap of the right bumper. Even with this, though, they've modified the A.I. some such that zombies are a little less likely to attack you from behind in the 360 version than in the PC version."

Sounds like the 360 version will be a bit less intense to balance it for the controller-handicapped.

Anyways, the age old kb/m vs. controller argument shouldn't even exist. Developers feel the need to put aim assist into console shooters, which should end the debate before it even begins.

im really interested in this game but could someone clear up why people in this thread are talking about the 360 version being inferior to the PC version? I was thinking about picking this up if i ended up buying a 360 this year as i don't have a pc that could run this the way i would want it to, but if there really is a big difference between the two versions, then i might just have to opt out completely.

Valve's recent games really don't require a monster PC to run really well. The biggest points for why the PC version may be the better buy are Valve's constant support for bugs and balance and free DLC. Also, like all the other Valve games, there will be a fairly large community of players to play with for a long time after release, whereas you never really know how long a game will stick with the Xbox community because of Gears, Halo and Call of Duty. Last thing, but I will disagree with poster above and say that the KB/Mouse input allows for a much faster reaction to a game that is just inherently faster paced than Halo or Gears. It is much more like trying to play TF2 on console, which I did before I bought it on PC and there really is a big difference. Hope this helps.

??? $75 ????

oh, you might be from Aus. Yes, it's worth it...
Right you are!

I've watched a few videos. So it's basically a survival online game, where the zombies are also human controlled? How long would a game normally last? So it's all co-op driven? If so, it probably means I need to buy a microphone...

I loved TF2 for what it is, and this seems to be a unique game in its own way.

There is a HUUUUGE one you're missing there: Server lists.

Shitty matchmakng in the 360 version, the option for matchmaking or server list in the PC verison.

Those last 2 don't really matter when you don't have the expensive PC required to run it that well. Also, some people prefer a gamepad over kb/m.

You can easily build a sub $500 rig. Plus for those of you guys that prefer gamepad, there is the option of using it for the PC version.

Yes but the AI is modified on the 360 version, so using a gamepad on PC would be more difficult.

The matchmaking has worked fine for me on the 360. I don't see what's so shitty about it.

I think he is more showing his preference for the sever lists over matchmaking in general instead of just singling out left 4 dead. But with sever lists you can select matches based on ping, map, or mode, whatever criteria the game has. Many match making systems tend to throw you in the first match regardless of ping and then you lag, or they wait for an acceptable ping and you sit for 5-10 min.

$500? I can run it on a PC I bought for $50 at a surplus sale. It's a Source game, not Crysis.

This.. after dealing with GTA4 and Brawl's horrible lobby system, I'm altogether skeptical of any matchmaking system (although I hear Halo's is great). Give me server lists.

I was being conservative with my estimate.

But in that case it won't look any better than the 360 version.

yes it will ...I'm at 1600x1200 with everything at full with 4x AA @60 fps (the source engine does not require much to run well). Also, PC components are incredibly cheap right now.

Man, I'm not liking the PC game finding system. I just want some damn server lists.

I like the idea that they're going with, but I'd love to just have a server list so I don't spend like 5 minutes trying to find a game.

Bah. 13 hours of working today. Gotta spend the next 3 hours murdering zombies in order to even it out.

In case you missed it earlier in the thread, type "openserverbrowser" in the console to get the server browser up. You can find servers in the custom tab.

Preordered earlier today. Played the demo a bit (busy now/sleep soon, but will be on later). It's really neat. It reminds me of alien swarm, although some things are better done and it fits the fist person perspective amazingly well. I like how it's paced, the speeds of the zombies/action, etc. It feels very dynamic, game flows well, animations are very smooth, etc. Also, I love how the zombies seem to pour into an area like a flood of liquid zombie.

Also, the fact that the game is primarily coop makes it so much better. I love coop games, and wish there was more coop in games, especially online coop.

I really like that they expanded upon the dynamic voice clips system that they had in TF2 - it really makes the gameplay feel more alive and dynamic.

My steam ID is JRPereira, although I'll show up as "Mercenary" ingame. I think I may have joined the neogaf steam group already. I tried joining it again earlier just to be sure but either it didn't go through or wasn't showing that I was already in or something.

:o

Sorry, I've been on a huge blackout for this game. I've gone in knowing two things:

Valve.
Zombies.

So far, it's living upto my expectations.

Why did you even bring this up...Both versions of the game are great. Period. You try to start a keyboard vs controller war and then say there shouldn't be one.

Got my hands on the 360 demo... JESUS CHRIST! This game went totally under my radar. I'll be picking it up next week now.

How am I able to play the 360 demo version?

Although I get most of my multi platform games on my 360, I'll be getting the PC version of this. Can't wait to play it over LAN with my housemates :D

By tomorrow, do you mean Monday or Tuesday? I'm not sure where you're located.

So, is there any word on whether playing it solo (with AI partners), is going to be a fun experience?

I don't have that many free hours for gaming, especially for co-op gaming, but this game is right up my alley (theme wise).

The AI is very competent, but it's also so easy to go online and coop that I don't see why you wouldn't.

Yeah....I am definitely behind the times with online/co-op games. I think I will definitely have to give this one a go on co-op.

The really amazing thing is how quickly the game swaps live players for AI bots, and vice versa. I don't even think the big dogs of coop like Gears handle it so effortlessly. In the middle of a round and absolutely, positively have to go take a dump? Just AFK and let the AI control your guy for a couple minutes. Beautiful.

Just tell me that

The two levels of the demo are COMPLETE or NOT?

Thanks!
First one is complete but the second one is cut a bit. IIRC you'd have to cross the street after the safehouse in complete version of the Subway level.
