The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

The really amazing thing is how quickly the game swaps live players for AI bots, and vice versa. I don't even think the big dogs of coop like Gears handle it so effortlessly. In the middle of a round and absolutely, positively have to go take a dump? Just AFK and let the AI control your guy for a couple minutes. Beautiful.

Didn't know you could do that. That's great.

LEFT4DEAD is filled with hilarious moments :lol

like when your group is too good for the demo and finds itself breezing through towards the safehouses.

all sorts of mayhem and confusion ensue with downed pistol shots and murder. crooked rain just tells me "dont worry, i got ya back" (like louis would say)

(then friendly fires me twice with a shotty)

Yeah. The AI is amazingly good. Is better player than me :lol

Just ordered the 360 version for 48 bucks on Amazon :D . Was seriously debating between the 360 and PC version but decided to go with the 360 version. When I say seriously, I mean it. I had my TV set up right by my monitor and would play a few minutes of one version, switch to the other, back and forth :lol It was pretty sad. Had to see if the visual tradeoff on my crappy PC was worth it for the mods. Would've been fine with the graphics if the frame rate wasn't absolute shit compared to the 360. I went with a smoother playing experience over the potential for mods in the future. If any good mods/updates come out that I have to have I wouldn't mind double dipping. The game is that good. Right now since I have an insane amount of hours played on a 2 stage demo, I think the full game alone will keep me pretty busy :).

Rules of Left 4 Dead: Racing Edition:

1. Medpack melee attacks only on Advanced
2. If you get knocked down you can use the pistol to take down other Survivors
3. The first person to the safe room can shoot everyone else on their way in
4. Random acts of griefing with primary weapons are illegal but hilarious

Some people left our games the other night, and I swear I didn't know it until the end. The AI is that good.

I usually find out when the person starts healing me since that's not something most teammates I've played with have cared if someone else is dying. :lol

Ya, I like to shoot the gas tank near the saferoom just as everyone is running into it :lol

And it's funny to shoot them just as they're about to get into the saferoom XD

The matchmaking has worked fine for me on the 360. I don't see what's so shitty about it.

Outside of matchmaking being slow and often time resulting in a game with problem, there are other issues, but to be fair these don't resonate with the console verison. An example is if Counter Strike was using matchmaking, yet people were still running unofficial Warcraft or Zombie servers. These would be impossible to find with matchmaking. L4D has already seen certain seen custom servers with maps and such that won't work with matchmaking.

The best part is when he sees that they're chillin in the safehouse. :lol

Sounds a little bit like Shawn at some points.

Do you mean Seanbaby? Because that was exactly what I thought, too.

I've played for more than 10 hours on the 360 (as well as a few on the PC version as well) and matchmaking has not been slow at all *on the 360*. And this is still the "exclusive" demo...it will be open tomorrow. I've said this a few times but I personally think a game like this with small rooms will benefit from matchmaking. Chaos Theory on PC was annoying as hell trying to find a room on the server list before they filled up (2 vs 2).

The typical negatives of matchmaking are almost nonexistant with L4D. There are no gametypes. There are basically no server options. The only variation is the difficulty level and 90% of the people are playing on Advanced or Expert anyway. I know people bring up ping issues but Microsofts matchmaking service is pretty streamlined and effective now. Lag has been a much more serious issue on the PC for Left 4 Dead so far.

Any idea what time the demo drops tomorrow? Is it like a midnight release, or something that could be anytime during the day? I can't WAIT! lol.

I was referring to matchmaking as a whole

Right. And I was saying that proper implementation of matchmaking ( as is the case on the 360 version ...which the PC version will eventually match with the updates) is perfect for this type of game.

I think most demos come up around 5am est time on xbox live

But it isn't on the PC -- because it has custom maps and custom modes.

Doug Lombardi told us 8AM GMT

Though there's only one more day left for the pre-order demo, I figured this might come in handy for someone.

Unused Xbox 360 pre-order demo code:

W6WDJ-8VB7V-YQFKD-6Y4JG-GQ73M

Obviously, the fastest one to type it into their Xbox LIVE account gets it. Enjoy!

Got a wishy washy friend who needs convincing, any folks got a PC code handy?

No code here, but I recommend started him (her?) out on Advanced, then quickly moving to Expert once they're comfortable. First time I played was on Normal and I wasn't all that impressed.

This is the kind of game that requires challenge to be fun. And once you've got the challenge it's fucking amazing.

Witches are crazy, but if you have one that you must kill use the auto-shotgun at semi close range.
Had a witch blocking our way inside one of the trains, and I was about to die anyway so I thought I'll get her attention hit her a couple of times and the guys will kill her while she is raping me, but instead I managed to kill her without getting hurt, all thanks to the auto-shotgun.
Works great against tanks too, but you have to get close to him so it will do the most damage, and getting close to that big guy is pretty fucking crazy.
