The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

I tried it last night finally...went to Quick Match...and...I was by myself :(

I played for a bit and enjoyed it, but being alone wasn't nearly as fun :(

Wait, is the director just an AI or am I missing something?

Yes, the director is an AI. It punishes you for not advancing by throwing a lot of boss monsters at you, and if you are doing too good it will throw more boss zombies at you. If you are sucking, it'll reduce the bosses.

Oh ok, at first by some of the descriptions, I thought it was something like the commander in the Natural Selection mod.

Well, after playing the 360 demo for a bit, I must say I'm somewhat disappointed.

Compared to its PC cousin, the 360 version looks pretty bad. And, for some odd reason, the controls just feel clunky to me. I can't explain it... most FPSs on the 360 can feel great, but L4D... nope.

Still, the game is fun, but I'm going to hold off on the 360 version. PC version for now.

You didn't even mention which version you needed a code for, and the demo's coming tomorrow! :p

Either, lol.

I guess I can wait, but everyone's having all this zombie-killing fun without me. :(

Man...I guess i'll start the demo download tomorrow then (PC). Got classes, and dont want to miss since we're supposed to be doing some pretty important stuff tomorrow...

Least I dont have work.

I thought it controlled weapons, ammo, and health stuff also?

Quick question for any of the PC users: Does anyone else's game get super choppy when it does any type of real-time loading? My PC isn't the problem since I've run every Valve game at full specs with no hiccups and Crysis at all high settings at 60 fps... But for some reason in this demo, when it's loading something new (I assume), the screen temporarily freezes and I get some awful audio hiccups.

Happening to anyone else?

:lol

Just finished an expert run, and we were screwing around. One guy took out the other two with the minigun (couldn't hit me since I was directly above him) and we were starting to duel from afar. A boomer comes behind him and vomits on him, and I see the horde rushing in from the windows to swarm him. I said "Have fun!" and slammed the safe room door shut.

No problems here, how much RAM do you have?

The game is packed with so much fan service, it'll be months before someone is able to tabulate all of them, i.e. TF2 Action Figure Cereal Box.

I like the Orange Box Juice poster in the subway.

I can't wait to get this and my MBP! Is there a good headset that works with both computer and PS3? I really wanted that new one that came with Socom...

Just played a few hours of the demo. WOW! Runs like crap on my iMac but I love this game. We only did run throughs on expert so I got my ass handed to me over and over. Can't wait to play more tomorrow.

Really? Hope it plays well on the MBP :(

I'm running it on a last-rev MBP with all settings on high (with the exception of shaders) and it runs at an excellent clip. It's a good machine for TF2 also.

I was a bit spoiled since TF2 runs well on high resolution on my comp. There are many more options I think I can tweak to make it run better. Don't be discourage though! My mouse and keyboard are shitty and too sensitive so that affected my playthrough, too.

My game is acting weird...

ShaderAPIDX8::CreateD3DTexture: Invalid color format!
Shows up in my console in red letters, I'm pretty sure that's not normal. Can anybody help with this?

update drivers/directx?

Me, DygiT_^ and some others decided to screw around with cheats when we were done with the subway. It was fucking AMAZING! We spawned 10 tanks, 20 witches, and 50 zombies at the same time in the small warehouse! :lol :lol :lol

I tried the third person cheat too. It actually doesn't look that bad.

We spawned more zombies and tanks and I got stomped the fuck out! :lol :lol

Extra 360 demo code for the quick and impatient: KFHDB-3BWCB-66FWG-MQK8G-2CHMJ

I'm still on the fence...I was hoping for more of a tactical shooter and less of a frenetic action game. Maybe that was unreasonable. I guess I'll give the demo another few run throughs, I really need a good online shooter this holiday and I'm hoping this can be it.

No clue how you guys are saying that the hardest difficulty is easy...i have tried it like 20 times and have yet to beat it. Is there really an "epic" mode? What do you have to do to play that?

I haven't done too much with steam until now (I love it btw), but how are you guys finding out how long you've played the game?

Go to the community tab and it will be on the right under gameplay stats.

Many thanks.

Well, I found out that Tanks can in fact crawl into vents, so dont try to hide from one there. :lol

Learned the hard way today, but we did realize if that you run back far enough, the music stops and the Tank just disappears or dies.

Have you verified your L4D game files?

Right click on L4D demo> local files > verify integrity of game cache

Didn't work :(

I think I'm just going to system restore to when it last worked.

I enjoy the diversity within the zombie community. The altered rabies virus does not discriminate amongst humans.

How's the headset use? I know GAF uses em, but has anyone played with random headset users so far?
Out of about 20 quick games I've played so far, only 2 haven't used headsets completely (until I started using mine). Headset helps immensely if there is more than one pipe bomb or Molotov lying around. Well, then there's the strategizing, laughs, and so much more! :lol

I'd think they would help at all times :lol Especially since Left 4 Dead seems like Resistance 2 co-op or Gears 2 Horde mode times 20.

When I pick up an item and there's another one there, my character tends to yell out that there are pills there, or something, automatically.

The problem is that the character also yells out when there's only one. :-(

If you have a good team, Expert isn't that bad.

I wish more people would use microphones, especially on the PC version (I expect more from you, PC gamers). Headsets make the game MUCH more fun, not only for tactical advantage, but also for dicking around and sharing some laughs.

Playing without some sort of easy-to-access communication just feels like I'm playing with bot's that make stupid decisions sometimes.
