Oh I see. I was about to say, in my experience every time a tank touched me I dropped like a rock.
I never had god mode on and got punched around by a tank. Have your health at 80 or higher and see for yourself (and not in expert for good measure).

Played the 360 demo with the bots, not my cup of tea. You just shoot masses of zombies as you move from place to place? That's it? Seems like it should be a free HL2 mod, what am I missing? It even looks bland.

Play with people and the experience is alot better. That being said, the demo is pretty short, so to get the most out of it, play on expert. After awhile they start to give you objectives, and each episode/scenario has a good amount of areas.

It's all the typical troubleshooting since nobody is there to fix it for you in person. Double check if you followed the instructions correctly, update directx, update your drivers, ponder over the installations you've made in the past. I like to type in the error message into google word for word. I sometimes get an answer that way.

edit: this looks interesting: http://forums.insmod.net/index.php?showtopic=14063 but Omega drivers are kind of out of date. Maybe uninstall all your video drivers and reinstall the official one. That helped me out once.

That is pretty helpful at times.

That other half of the Subway level or whatever is awesome. Very iconic. I got a spawned tank to punch cars at people.

Cool thing I noticed: shooting computers will fling out different components such as motherboards and power supplies :lol .

At the end of the demo it said that there's new weapons in the retail game? Is that true? I was just curious about the weapons list and checked here, and it's telling me something else:

http://left4dead411.com/left-4-dead-information#Q32

Given the environment and universe of the game, im not really sure what else they could have. I guess a magnum and maybe some melee weapons would fit?

There is this as well:

Achievements/Merits/Demerits - You receive these after each map depending on what you accomplished. Merits are for good things like handing out health packs, demerits are for doing stupid things like detonating Boomers that are close to other Survivors. They are considering offering rewards such as guns and other equipment.

nothing seems to be working. I reinstalled the video driver for this laptop(t61p). Nothing works :(.

Believe it was said there's no melee weapons.

There's a knife in the weapons folder, that's it.

Played the demo a few times...
3 times of expert, and haven't lost once, seems a little too easy...
But of course, the teamwork was really good.

This demo just keeps on giving.

I shot a PC tower in that little pawn shop and was greeted with a shower of components. One cleared the shelf and landed near the door. We crouched over it and came to agreement via our microphones that it was a power supply.

Whoa, didn't know a melee attack from behind could kill common infected.

Also for a higher difficulty level, they should get rid of the boss zombie sounds, PLEASE.

Wow, I really love how well the pc version looks and runs. Plus my 5.1 headphones/headset work much better than I expected with this game.

One thing I can't figure out which is slightly annoying...is there a way to toggle crouch? I hate having to hold down the ctrl button to crouch. Let me toggle it Valve!

Wonder if it would be possible to suffer like G did...

There's still some that could easily fit. A bolt-action rifle is a must as well as a more powerful handgun, it also couldn't hurt to maybe have another SMG or assault rifle. Melee weapons are easier, baseball bat, sledgehammer, police baton, axe, or even a chainsaw.

Hope they expand the arsenal in the future.

Played the demo:

Gameplay is very good (it's Valve) but the graphics are very outdated. It's time for Valve to put this version of the Source engine to rest.

Dunno, the PC version maxed out looks pretty nice to me. Character models and walls especially.

Maybe more improvised weapons. Like piano wire, a flaming stick, motion triggered IEDs, a cricket bat, a sword, an SUV with a minigun mounted in the back, bow and arrows with explosive tips, a remote control car/helicopter/plane with explosives strapped to it... I know they won't be in when the game ships but they'll probably be modded in after a few months anyway.

I'd like those. A rake or shovel would be nice.

Pure comedy tonight. PURE.

So we were playing on expert (360), me and 3 of my friends. We were having trouble in teh subway, then we REALLY started having trouble. # games ina row tanks spawned on us nearly at the start. The first time, he killed 2 of my people almost instantly. So he turns to me next, and i just took off and started running. It was crazy, hearing him running behind me on the rear speakers (i never looked back) as i weaved through train cars, back down through the lobby, and up into sme kind of cave that i never saw which is where, according to my dead teammate, i lost the damn thing. So i kept moving and got the message that my teammate is being held by a smoker. Im still running thinking that the Tank is still right behind me, i shoot off the smoker on the run and me and my buddy run into a room and close the door behind us only to turn around and have a boomer blow up on us :lol

THen, the very next round, and this was just hilarious to me, the tank spawned almost at teh very start in the lobby area. He killed me and another of us, so i watched the Tank chase my other friend around. He lost hinm for a bit so he went into the survivor respawn closet area and closed the door. I moved the camera around to see his face and everything was fine for like 30 seconds. Then all of the sudden, i see door splinters fly past him and muzzles flashes and Bill's face, thanks to the awesome source engine animation, is full of pure terror. It was so fucking funny to me at the time man i wish this game had the H3 saved films feature.

Played the PC Demo with AI controlled bots ( will try co-op later ), and I have to say that I'm loving it even as a single-player experience. It's just so well made, and the atmosphere is awesome. *THIS* is how you do zombies in a video-game, people!

My game still doesn't work :(

I really wish I knew how to fix it. Been reading the steam forums and other people who have the same problems can't fix it either.

Yeah the game looks really good on max settings for me also. Not too sure how anyone can say the graphics look outdated. I'm playing the game on my mac pro in bootcamp with an 8600 gt and everything looks and runs amazing.

My ideas for more L4D games:

They could extend the franchise by having chapters with different groups of surviors in other places in the world.

They could just turn Left 4 Dead into a natural disaster franchise and cover survivors of a plane crash/global cooling/flooding/alien invasion. I think the franchise would work in any situation that kills many people and leaves some people alive afterward to live through it.

One thing playing the single player mode has taught me is that even in co-op you really need to play like a survival horror game and not straight up action. Explore EVERY single door (you can open any door with a doorknob on it apparently). Some are to hidden storerooms with pain pills (health boost) molotovs, and other things.

Never rush through the level, you never know what the director will throw at you.

Mass demo proliferation resulted in me joining a team of fags for the first time today. I've finished expert 6 times with great teams over the past few days, today I join a game and I get 2 people who thing friendly fire is hilarious.

Then when I was downed from a horde when the two of them ran off to do something the opposite direction, one of them starts reviving me, then letting go of revive, then revive, let go, revive, let go... so I shot him in the head until he went down.

Then he was all WHY DID YOU DO THAT FOOOOOOR on the mic in a whiney high pitched voice.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Yeah, but two wrongs dont make a right :lol Also, quick edit that word. You know the one I mean.

this game is gonna be so good. the demo is taking me away from fallout 3, which took me away from dead space... sigh. well, 3 great games fighting for my time is better than none.

You quoted it.

IMO unless that happens like 3 times in a row, it just adds to the experiance.

you can hear when any smokers, hunters, boomers, witches, or tanks are around. Get rid of any cues to make it even more challenging.

Taking a break from L4D, getting burnt out on it now, 20+ hours.

Hah, had a great couple of games with some gaffers tonight on the 360. Haklong, Jago, and Gen. something-or-another were playing on Expert and kept getting close to the first safe room but never quite making it. Hoards of zombies kept busting out of the same wall in the apartment building, it was ridiculous.

The game needs a "stucco and patching tool" weapon that lets you patch up holes in walls to slow down zombies.

Ahhh... I didn't realise the chapters in the demo are only two of five.

HELL YEAH

Controls are tight. Graphics are decent, though noticeably more blurry than the PC version with little to no anti-aliasing. Matchmaking is just as quick and painless. Almost the same menu's and same options.

Essentially, Valve gave us the best 360 version they could on the 360's hardware.

You've got to be kidding me..but that's no way the best they could do with the 360 hardware - this game should've run at high settings with AA/AF and running at 60fps on 360 to be considered a great port. Right now it's a decent port and nothing more.

In fact it looks worse than the Orange Box on 360, I guess Valve is really struggling with the 360's hardware - mainly with the limited amount of memory I guess but that's expected as they're a PC-centric dev team.

Anyway the game it's too much fun and still a day one purchase for me and my friends.

Could even use normal Source physics for that. Put some file cabinets, tables, chairs, couches, etc. and add a push or carry function/animation.

As I understand it (and I could be dead wrong) there are several parts following the part that ended in the demo, 3 I believe. And considering that they'll probably scale in difficulty as you get higher and higher, I'd say you would have quite a challenge on your hand when the full game is released.

It's stories like these that make this game amazing. Amazing stuff.

Alternatively, I can't wait to play through the helicopter finale.

we played like 2 hours of this tonight. What an awesome game. Also, are there really only going to be 5 levels in the retail version? And the demo is almost 2 full levels? The game is going to be really short. I guess it will rely heavily on the director A.I for multiple playthroughs.

No the full game is 4 scenarios, with 5 levels each. Plus Versus mode.

The demo is only 1.5 levels of the first scenario.

Oh nice. This, coupled with the fact that replaying levels is never the same should make for a hell of a ride.
