The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

+lobby this is the exploit that was fixed. it was pretty much fixed only because team roomba kept griefing each other with it and got bored of not being able to play the game with each other so a couple of em sent emails to valve. warpy fucking restarted one game 13 times so there we go.

I've yet to see this but do you have more info? video links? If this is true, then damnit! >_<
There is one definite video of it on youtube but the video also details how to perform the exploit so I'd rather not put it out there.

So far I've only fully beaten Death Toll, so if you're going to play any of the other scenarios, let me know. I'd love to join. I'll try any difficulty, but if you're electing to do advanced/expert, don't be surprised if I die, hahah.

Add me! (Volcynika) If it says not found, add me through Scarlet's friend's list.

Also, :lol at earlier. I thought Pop On Arrival was in Europe, so I'm like "I think they're in Europe." Pop: "I'm in Asia." Me: "Oh......well even farther!"

Good matches with them earlier, even though Scarlet got jipped on the end of No Mercy.

Well, I was bound to get knocked off a map by a Tank eventually. I thought that pipe area was safe, but I guess not. :lol

Mutfox helped me make a third 'quotations wheel', which although the death scream and constant "shit, bullshit! ah hell! goddammit!" can be funny, hopefully the ability to have the character say "boomer/tank/witch" and stuff will be handy.

Hey there kids--just got the game for the 360 last night and it's a freaking revelation. Anyone looking for an extra buddy to team up with?

Just finished a quick run through my RSS feeds and saw this pop up on Ars. I ordered L4D the other day for 360 after seeing it on Amazon, and hearing things like this brings back bad memories of Halo 2 modders. Anyone run into anything like this?

Some people earlier in the thread mentioned they have.

That was pretty awesome. I'd never do it out on Xbox Live, but it'd be fun to mess around with.

I'm gonna take back my statement of Blood Harvest being the easiest campaign to beat on expert. Sure, when you're in the barn with four auto shotties, it's easy. But that fucking trip to the farmhouse is a nightmare.

A strategy we used to get past the corn-field was to send someone down there alone while 3 of us stayed up top, waiting for the horde to arrive so we could slaughter them with autoshotties with perfect visibility. That worked out pretty well for us, and the guy that alerted the horde didn't even die.

If everyone on the team is willing to do it, making a beeline straight for the farmhouse works pretty well. A lot of people get cold feet, though, and slow down, get lost.

Run straight along the fence to the tractor, make a 90 degree turn right and run straight for that open building that sometimes has pills, etc. It's easy to take on the horde there, since they can only come from one direction.

You definitely cannot slow down at all, though. Everyone has to run straight for it. If anyone's injured too much and the other three keep running, it's pretty much death for the injured dude.

Soemtimes shit happens, like a smoker or hunter, of course. But that's L4D for you. O:

Good game last night, Pop. I've never seen DA's finale go so smoothly, and we only lost the idiot CPU Zoey.

I'm surprised people think BH is the easiest. It has always been the hardest for me. I've always had problems with it and Death Toll to a lesser extent. Even on normal. Death Toll mainly because everytime I play, the A.I director decides to be an asshole. I had a game once where as soon as we opened the church safehouse in chapter 4 or 3, there was a tank right there in the middle of the road already throwing debris at us.

Blood harvest is hard for me because everyone has to have their wits about them constantly. Situational Awareness is a must when zombies can literally come from all angle for most of the campaign.

Judging by the Xbox LIVE activity charts, L4D is extremely popular on Xbox 360, even though most GAFfers in this thread are playing on Steam.

damn, i still need to get those pics up for you pop. ill try to do that soon.

i should be around at the usual late hour tonight if someone wants to get some games in.

or you could just get a mic. :P

you can also program the swears on to your chat select wheel, so it dosent have to be a constant loop. you can just throw out a good curse word whenever you want to.

that third chat select wheel would come in handy though. didnt know you could do that.

Mouse2 is my 'walk backwards' button, though.

The cussing one is set in the center, Daigoro, although it doesn't seem to always say one. The rest work fine, though.

yeah, you have those screwy controls!

i also notices that about putting swears on the dial as well. weird... :/

cant wait to get home and blast some zombies. its been a long day.

I found it hilarious to hear Boomer! called out constantly.

Also, X-Play named this their best multiplayer game and shooter of 2008. :o

I'd really like to play, but I've got 3 papers to write by tomorrow, so I have to wake up early. But I should have time to do 1 campaign later. Mutfox insists that I play that campaign with him, since I'll get Zombie Genocidist in my next campaign (about 300 zombies away). We got Untouchables last night along with Pop on Arrival and a GAF R.O.B. guy; pretty good first game I had with him. :)

The charts for this week puts it at #6 - below Halo 3, COD5, Gears 2, COD4, and GTA4. I'm not sure I'd call that "extremely popular", only because you've got such a glut of other shooters at the top. I wish MS released actual player counts, though.

As for good sound clips to keybind: For whatever reason, I find the way Louis says "GRABBIN' PEELS" to be hilarious. Alternately, the laughter sounds could be bound to MOUSE1 to irritate the piss out of the other team.

Ok, since people have been asking about the 3rd wheel...
You can actually make as many as you'd like,
you can even make wheels for server commands, etc...

Ok so here we go.

First find the RadialMenu.txt file located in:
\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead\scripts
Make a backup just incase, I copied the file and called the backup RadialMenu.bak

Now open up that file, to add a 3rd wheel add this onto the end just above the last }.
(You can change the commands and text, but this is what I have for example.)

//--------------------------------------------------------------
"Warnings,Survivor,Alive"
{
"Center"
{
"command" "vocalize PanicEvent"
"text" "Curse"
}
"North"
{
"command" "vocalize PlayerStayTogether"
"text" "Stay Together"
}
"NorthEast"
{
"command" "vocalize PlayerDeath"
"text" "Dying"
}
"East"
{
"command" "vocalize PlayerFollowMe"
"text" "Follow Me"
}
"SouthEast"
{
"command" "vocalize PlayerTonguePullStart"
"text" "Grabbed"
}
"South"
{
"command" "vocalize PlayerTaunt"
"text" "Taunt"
}
"SouthWest"
{
"command" "vocalize PlayerVomitInFace"
"text" "Slimed"
}
"West"
{
"command" "vocalize PlayerBackUp"
"text" "Get Back"
}
"NorthWest"
{
"command" "vocalize PlayerAnswerLostCall"
"text" "Upset"
}

Okay, now that you've added that on, save the file.

In order to use the 3rd wheel you have to bind it to a key.
To bind it, open up "Left 4 Dead" and go into the console, by pressing the "~" key.
(If you're unable to access the console, go into your key binds and enable it.)

Now in the console, type this bind x "+mouse_menu Warnings"

The x can be any key you'd like, once that's done, you can then use the wheel ingame.
Also, You can edit the default wheels.
Example, The READY wheel, I put LAUGH in the center instead of READY,
since I don't use READY that much.

So now when I press the READY Wheel, my character laughs.

Lastly, that "Warnings" area in the script, can be changed to anything.
You just have to change that part in the bind accordingly.
Basically, that's the trick to making multiple wheels.

Anyways, hope that explains it all.

Very, very noobish question, but what's the console command to show information like FPS, ping, etc.

Rez>You said:

net_graph 1
(edited, sorry, apparently I had the wrong command)

That shows a bunch of information. I think you can also only do "cl_showfps 1" to show FPS, or "ping" to show everyone in the game's current ping. I still am sad that this game doesn't have a max FPS option like most Valve games (as far as I know).

God I wish I could. I don't know if you can get that one specific sound, though.

If I could, I totally would. Without hesitation.

I mean, I'm guessing "PlayerNegative" is the one that loops through the "Pbpbpbpb" raspberry and the "OOOHHHH" and "OH NOOOO".

Guess I'll just do that.

Rez>You said:

net_graph 1 - There are additional data available if you use 2 or 3. If you use 0 then it'll not show it.

net_graphpos 2- Places the net_graph in the center of the bottom part of the screen. 1 or 3 are other positions.

I'd say L4D is doing great, especially when you consider that it is brand new IP going up against this year's most hyped sequels.

Beating No Mercy on Expert is proving to be quite the challenge. Whereas the Finale was the hardest part about the other 3 Campaigns, getting past level 3 proves to be the challenge here.

Pardon my stupidity but what is this 3rd wheel you're talking about? Is it the emotes the characters are saying? So if I pick one of the wave files from the sound and bind it, can everyone in the group hear it or just me?

My god, we had this guy on our team last night, he wouldn't stop playing music through his damn mic. And we tried to kick him no less than 20 times, and our third just wouldn't jump.

By the way...
The next thing Valve needs to fix?

STOP SWAPPING TEAMS. I hate when team members get swapped between levels. It's freaking annoying as hell. Sometimes you get cool people that will drop and help reset the teams, but I just don't get why it's happening in the first place.

Also, does anybody want to describe EXACTLY where I should stand as a smoker on the finale of No Mercy? I've incapped people off the roof but I want to know where I can get the insta-kill :lol

You should only need two votes for yes. Not three.

Maybe that's just in versus? I dunno.

The L4D bug has finally bitten me. I can't stop playing. It's starnge that it just randomly started now, considering I've had the game since launch. @_@

I played through Blood Harvest about twice today as well as one run through of Dead Air and Death Toll. All with randoms, and luckily, all of the people I played with were really awesome, co-operative people. Some were better than others, and we didn't always approach every situation as well as we could have, but eff it, it was just pure fun. I really need to get a mic (any recommendations of a good cheapish headset with mic?).

So fucking addicting. I NEED MORE. This is the first online FPS to really grab me, but then it's the first online FPS I've really started playing on my newly upgraded rig.

Get those versus maps up for Dead Air and Death Toll Valve, go on. ;)
