I'll play. I just spent forever finishing a single map in CoH and I could use the break from that, for sure.

:lol My brother's been playing that all day. I'll set up a VS lobby in a minute, unless someone wants campaign.

Kinda ot but...Dude wtf did you do to Red Scarlet?

I don't even remember, he probably killed me really hard, so I said "fuckin Nabs, always fuckin Nabs", and it just became a personal tradition; whenever he does well or kills me/takes a lot of my HP off, it's just the response. He and I pretty much never get put on the same team with random teams. It isn't anything personal, more of a simple nod to something he did in the game, usually to me.

Haha okay i just see a lot of anti-nabs things and I'm thinking he like voice spammed like drake did.
*shrugs*

Also If my mouse decides to work ill see you guys on L4D in a bit, if there is room.

Well, I got it going finally, but whenever I compress the audio, the sound becomes really lagged (although a slow motion Tourettes Tank is pretty funny), so that added about 100mb to the file, and the video looks about like what a demo does for me, so I guess I need a beefier computer to make it smooth like it is in-game. I'll post it when it's uploaded though, we did alright. (Map is NM5, I'm on Infected side, vid is about 12:30 long). Someone said it's probably my video card (Nvidia 7600 or something like that) is what causes the skippiness in demo mode.

The reason is more that it isn't necessary to win, where a lot of pro-mic people seem to believe it is impossible to not only win, but to even play the game halfway decent if you don't have and use a mic throughout the game.
Haven't really been following the thread that much: Which codec are you using? Microsoft Video 1 is the best for me.

I ended up going back to fraps after trying the video stuff. I tried uncompressed and I think one or two others with startmovie, but I didn't have a lot of luck (I'll probably try again later).

Sound quality is a bit meh - maybe there's some tweaking I can do, as I only seem to have sound quality trouble the source engine and not other games.

I think Scarlet just doesn't have a good connection (either low bandwidth or high latency). The framerate was fine, it just was waiting for net updates over and over and the client smoothing doesn't seem to be used in demos.

DON'T TALK SHIT ABOUT TOTAL!

When I first tried to compress, I was going to use my usual divx one, but it gave some error that wouldn't let me compress, so I tried xvid, and it worked. Don't know if I tried divx now if it would work properly or not.

I don't know, ever since Christmas or so, the net_graph 1 thing says my ping is double what typing ping in the console says (it'll show 400 on net_graph, but say 170 on ping, and I used to get sub-100).

Woot, dragged four people off the side in No Mercy finale. Not an exploit slide, just that section where they climb out, next to the set of air conditioners on the bottom. The constant barrage of boomer bile and hunter pounces helped, and nice that the survivors would take glancing shots at me, releasing me from my attack and letting me prepare for another go.

Not as good as batting three folks off the side in NM4 as a flaming tank. That was awesome, so awesome.

Ok. I've had this for a while. Only played a handful of times online. I just had m best team and it was fun, I need better people to play with and gaf sounds liike the place.

Realllllllly hope they fix the server problem since Christmas. If it's not disconnect attempts, it's outright disconnecting, or 700ms lag bombs at regular intervals. Just now, it took me 3 tries to pick up a pipe bomb, and I got stuck at the ravine at the end of BH1, game wouldn't let me get out due to warping around. :lol

Tek will provide the evidence soon enough.

That first first game was hilarious though, you guys barley made it out of the spawn. :D

Yeah, as a Hunter, either I'd warp or the other players would, and I got stuck in the ravine, then as human, I spent about 30 seconds trying to pick up a pipe bomb, but would keep warping, then I finally did get it, tossed, it, and ran towards someone pounced, then got pounced, and Conceptor just let us die from full health about 2 feet away. :lol

Honestly, that server was a nightmare. I was getting 500-700 lag spikes every few seconds. Totally unplayable with the warping around on my side. :/

Well, while I agree some of those other FPS are much better with voice-based communication, Left 4 Dead is by far the one I feel most requires it. I've never felt before I simply cannot play without microphone, though I prefer it. L4D is the first I said "no I won't bother if you don't have it."
So you have played a real shooter competitively? That's strange because those require voice com, hands down. Timing pick-ups and guarding them etc. is an absolute necessity, you don't have such advanced teamplay in L4D. In comparison teamplay in L4D is only rudimentary at best.

On top of that you always know where your team-mates are in L4D thanks to the outlines etc. - you even get voiced and visual hints automatically (Hunter got Bill, Pills here [all-time favourite], red outlines etc.).

This argument about microphones is bullshit. Not your post in particular Phife Dawg but how long it has gone on for in circles.

Valve being Valve, have done everything they can to make this game fun and possible to play without a microphone. With the marking menus, context sensitive voice acting and coloured outlines for characters to represent their health. Even so this is not a substitute for a mic and never will be. You can't see the entire playing field all at once, just like in real sports communication is a very beneficial factor. Even if it's not 100% necessary or as necessary as in some other games.

left 4 dead protip

on NM1, if the infected get a really early tank, don't be dumb and run back into the apartment building

also don't be just as dumb and run into the small room that usually has items in it, that's just as bad! (ignore the offensive name)

mics are important but there is something more important i have found.

i have been playing a LOT of public servers and i have noticed a trend with the lobby chat. basically me and a friend play on same team then open it up for the public and watch the people flood into the lobby. now the interesting thing is the people who come in and dont even say hi and just say "go" or "start" straight off the bat tend to be the people who want to play one go on infected then quit the server once they are done!

i had 3 people quit after the first mission on the infected side and all 3 were the most eager to get going. so i have come up with a new rule. if you join my lobby and dont say hello and immediately say go you will be kicked. it seems to get rid of the quitters.
