Hmmm.. According to Gamespot, the October 13th Free DLC consists of:
Total Payback update pack will add in a cheat mode that allows gamers to unlock all of the weapons, vehicles, and airstrikes. The free download will also include cheat support for infinite ammo and unlimited health.

The new characters and cross region support doesn't come until the November DLC.

Looking further ahead, Pandemic also said that it is prepping a more substantial game update for November. The November DLC will add six new playable characters, including Blanco, Fiona, Ewan, and Eva, as well as cross-region co-op multiplayer support. Pandemic promises to post more details on the November update on the game's official
Website.
Wonder who the other two characters are? Hopefully they're new characters and not just more people from the story. I'm curious to see the stat differences for the new characters as well. If any.

I wonder if they will fix anything other than the glitches & the new cheats in the patch.
Like maybe select items while not having to come to a complete stop or not having to press a button to pick up ammo.

So... um...

Fuck this demo, and fuck this game.

This is how I felt and I played and liked the first Mercenaries even though it was sort of barebones for an open world game. I think I'll pass on this and maybe check it out when it gets to $20. Right now I'm just not motivated to give it another chance.

I wish I could get excited about the cross-region patch, but it's too little too late. EA/Pandemic royally botched this. I already traded the game back in, and with the massive entry of games coming out in the near future I don't really see myself giving a crap about the game anymore. Too bad, I had been really looking forward to playing this co-op with a buddy overseas once. We just have better priorities now.

:lol @ the worldwide co-op's intro.
:lol x2 @ the "other fixes" audio part.

After playing this again last night, you know what this game needs? More vehicles. Planes (you already see them flying around!), hovercrafts, subs etc and experimental weapons ie lasers and whatnot.

I'm stll interested to know that stat differences for the new characters though.

Also, they better have unlockable suits as well.

I'm also wondering if there are new dialog to go along with these characters, like their own comments during missions and such (and who the hell is going to be talking to you when you are PLAYING as Fiona).

Her twin sister, Fyona. Duh.

I'd expect them to have their own audio and I'm especially looking forward to hearing Misha's drunken ramblings while playing. :lol However, if they're purely character skins (no audio dialog, no differing stats etc) this is a complete waste.

It's going to be interesting to see how Saints Row 2 will compare to Mercs 2. I don't think EA wants to be in a position where all reviewers agree that SR2 is everything Mercs2 should have been.

pssf EA doesn't care.
When the first month sales of a game don't do great for EA, that pretty much means a death sentence for any kind of lasting support.

This f@cking game has me screaming at my TV at 10AM.

Doing the bullshit escort missions for the god damn retard Jamaicans that blew up my sweet ass attack chopper even though were on good terms. I'm gonna have to get Steven Seagal on some Rastafari ass. >:|

Anyhow, got to haul this stupid f@cking rum around in this stupid f@cking pick-up truck made of eggshells with every dickhead in the virtual world shooting at me with every f@cking gun in the f@cking world. >:|

Several runs I get half way there and some DICK lucky grenades the gate off of the rear of the pickup and all the rum spills out.

The rest of the time these f@ckers rocket me from the god damn AIR WITH A HELICOPTER!

Bastard ass, this game has me furious. If I could get the stupid Americans or the Chinese to give me missions I wouldn't be wasting my time with this shit.

I really, really with these free roaming world games would focus on the A.I. of the virtual inhabitants. Everybody in this game drives like a retard. Why put a horn on vehicles if you can't get the other drivers to move out of the way? Why do pedestrians run into the fucking road when they see you coming? YAY! THERE GOES MORE OF MY MONEY!

In summary: I wish this game would focus on what it's good at - BLOWING SHIT UP! and less on horribly designed mini games.

Also none of my friends can connect to my games. WTF? I can host Warhawk games no problem, what's up with this shit?

Great. Every mission available to me is a lame ass delivery mission for these Jamaican
fuck
s!

Yeah, I'd love to be able to play co-op if Pandemic didn't have their heads up their
fucking
asses and included local co-op, but noooo I'm stuck with this broke dick on-line co-op which does not work for me.

The problem is exacerbated by robot accurate A.I. shots from every
fucking
weapon, and when a grenade can blow the gate off the Buju, spilling your cargo all over the road - then what is the function of the single player game other than pissing the player off?

Really, the game was great fun when the emphasis was on BLOWING SHIT UP! The minute it diverts into delivery/escort mission Hell it all goes to shit, tubgirl style.
Glorious creamy streams of liquid shit spraying into your face.

Are there any tips to cozying up to pissed off factions? I want to get back to the BLOWING SHIT UP parts of this game, but if I can't it's going to the Buy/Sell/Trade Thread.

Just start taking out guys in the opposing faction to get back in favor with the one you want.

One way to do those escort missions is to get a transport chopper and use the winch to take it to the destination. Rum will fly out, but if you do it right there will still be enough in the truck to not fail the mission.

Your fault as you were probably disguised at the time as whatever faction you got the chopper from. If you didn't want that to happen, you'd need to periodically hit the horn to lose said disguise.

As for the rest, I don't know what to tell you as the mission's incredibly easy (went through all of them twice on SP, once in co-op). Take your time, dodge incoming fire and don't do sharp turns. If the chopper's actually a problem, all you have to do was get out of the truck and jack it/blow it up.

That or just bribe them via Fiona. Which is much easier as it's faster and get so much money during the course of the game that you won't miss whatever money you spent to begin with.

Just finished this game which I fortunately got from gamefly. Ugh, so many problems with this game. The explosions and buildings falling apart were FANTASTIC. But aside from that... so so sooo frustrated with it.

For one.. and this was huge. I'd be playing a mission, and halfway through it have to leave. So I'd just quit the game. Little did I know the mission continues where you left off, that's good and all. But the fact that it starts you 10 million miles away when you're supposed to get there in a limited amount of time? What-the-fuck. I ended up just turning on the cheats after a while to focus on the good of the game. Blowing shit up. Then it was a blast.

Are you fucking kidding me???? :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

I played this game in August, there was only one mission I found hard.

Anyway, back to this picture:

Are these characters supposed to be selectable in the single player mode, or only for multiplayer?

Another question. Anyone have any idea why is this game going to be re-released as a full game on the PSN? I thought it was only be a patch to add trophies and some other stuff, but EA has a full version to go up on PSN (Euroland).

I'm at around 53% and I haven't seen anything new in the game besides the trophies, so all the extra stuff was only for multi?

Anyway, did the game bombed and that's why EA is re-releasing it now on PSN?

So I'm backing up some of my various saved game files onto a flash drive, and when I tried to copy my Mercenaries 2 save file I get a message, "Copying of this saved data is not allowed."

What the hell? Why won't this game let you back up a save file? Any way around it?

I've tried this before ...it's probably like Burnout Paradise where the save file is attached to your PSN ID/system in some way. Also you have to talk to the servers to even unlock the preorder skins

Oh thanks, I've never encountered that before. I don't even go online with this game, I'm just trying to back up my single player save.

So I was just checking my Best Buy rewards points and saw that they have a $20 coupon for Mercenaries 2 currently. Sure you have to sign up for the Gamers Club but that program gives you a $10 coupon for every $100 you spend on video game stuff so it's actually better than just the Rewards program.

I'm about to pull the trigger on the PS3 version but before I do so I want to make sure R1 is used to shoot and not R2.

j0ystiq is saying that the patch with Palin and Obama went up today on PSN and is coming tuesday for the 360. Can anyone confirm?

edit: Pandemic posted about it on their forums. http://www.pandemicstudios.com/community/viewtopic.php?id=18112

The DLC pack comes with a collection of new game play modes including Urban Rampage, Death Race, Arms Race and Mercs Blitz, as well as some patriotic characters to choose from.

I'm gonna have to buy this now for $20 at Best Buy tomorrow. I never got a chance to finish my gamefly'd copy.

What's the deal with the new play modes? Are they for multiplayer? And have the huge list of bugs been addressed yet? The bug fixes alone would raise the game a letter grade in the eyes of most of the people who reviewed it.

Same with the vehicles or at least I couldn't find them. Too bad, dicking around with an Abrams with TOW missiles sounded great.

The missions aren't even that fun to play either..
Outside of the tank mission, they blow and the tank mission is only good because of the tank.

Any performance boost or glitch removal with the new DLC?

There's also a title update, if there were any it'd probably be in that not the huge free DLC file.

I didn't notice anything new except the game froze on me when I was starting over to see if that would unlock the presidential costumes for main campaign play.

Well didn't they at least tone down all the "If you're ever lost, or don't know what to do, come see me. I'll point you in the right direction" stuff. They hinted at small fixes like that in a previous video.

Its pretty impossible to get details on Pandemic updates/patches though it seems.

Picked this up a couple days ago (PS3 version), and honestly, I'm having lots of fun with it. I haven't really run into any crazy glitches, but the only complaint is the stupidity of some of the AI, like the HVTs. One of them keeps running off a cliff and killing himself, so I have to reload to stop him from doing so. Sad thing is, I don't have anyone to play co-op with :/

I just got this game cheap and have to admit that I'm having a blast with it. I enjoyed Mercs 1 back on the PS2 and this has a similar sort of feel; like the first this game features graphics that are a little below par, but they're more than made up for with the sheer number of options available to you at any time. All of the mechanics have been improved, but in particular the option to hijack choppers is welcome, as is the new cost system for air strikes and air drops which encourages them far more than the first game did. The new 'bling' vehicles are all great too; if you're going to have vehicles then why not have some that make the player grin. I like that the game never pretends to be anything other than what it is, with an emphasis on totally over-the-top action as opposed to realism.

At the moment, apart from the slightly muddy graphics, my only criticism is probably the inability to quickly load games while in the middle of playing (sadly you have to quit your current game to do this) which is tedious when trying to capture the HVTs alive. But all in all it's great to see a game where the emphasis from a design point of view was solely on making the experience fun for the player. The post launch support looks to have been pretty good too, with a trophies patch for the PS3 version and cheat codes being made available (the latter just makes so much good sense for a game like this!).

It's a sweet game that, despite many small changes, manages to fall short of the greatness of the original. I played the first one on PS2 and was completely stunned with how good the game was. With only a couple changes (get rid of: instant death in water, indestructible trees, bad tank physics on mountains), they could have kept the same formula and had a complete winner.

Instead they made the game way too easy. The Mercs 2 enemies are dumber and easier to kill, and though your own character is harder to kill, they also seem be bumping the perceived danger by making it easier to fall under 20HP (red screen and slo-mo) but it's unnecessary to retreat while in the red, because it takes roughly a direct rocket hit to knock out those last 3 hitpoints. The vehicles are also much easier to destroy; maybe they're supposed to be disposable and encourage players to vary their ride, but it's not a lot of fun to have a tank get one-shotted.

If this game had come out of nowhere, I'd have been quite happy with it, but in comparison to its last-gen predecessor, it falls short.
