I already did Scorsese this round. You can do Taxi Driver another round though - I was actually weighing up which I was going to put between TD and GF.
No, he's allowed to pick a Scorsese film, you can't anymore though. The director clause only works on an individuals' pick, not a draft round.

Oh, I thought he could still pick a Scorsese film, but you couldn't have two films from the same director in one round.

Edit - Nevermind, must have been my imagination. :D

vox-pop, follow your rules and state the director's names and bold your picks man. It is going to get hard to read the thread when not updated and nobody is bolding their picks!

My second pick (is it round 2 yet?):

Seven - David Fincher

Hard to see what he picked before, so there is no way to enforce that without havign seen what was picked before.

Looking over the early choices, I can tell my list is going to be on the hilarious outside. I do well with so many classics like Rear Window, Citizen Kane, and etc, but I am sure I will find some of the picks in the thread incredibly boring or overhyped, something out of a film teachers list of 'must see classics' that many times are only so because of one technique or another and unfortunately not because of the whole picture. Even moreso the fact that this is the first round!

Maybe that comment will get me in trouble, especially with some of my penultimate and final round picks, but thats all good. :)

I will also note that I am happy that people are putting in so many of those movies because if they truly believe them to be as amazing as they are, then I will be more inclined to rewatch (or in some cases) simply watch movies that I perhaps didn't enjoy the first time around.

Round 1:

8½ - Federico Fellini

Round 2:

Wings of Desire (Der Himmel über Berlin) - Wim Wenders

I wasn't sure if we were supposed to use the original name or English name, so I put both. Damn you Vox-Pop for taking Le Samourai. *Shakes Fist* That's the only one of my picks that I didn't expect to disappear so fast.

I guess it's not that easy. *walks out in shame*

So the first two have been done? Lame, should have started a new topic for the actual drafting.

Anyways:

Memento - Christovpher Nolan

Dog Day Afternoon - Sidney Lumet

This is the thread for drafting...

the signup thread was a different one.

Not calling you out, but I swear this thread is already showing how hard it must be for some people to follow directions... This and that damn "mindblown" thread is making me lose faith in this board. :(

WHAT IS GOING ON IN THIS THREAD. I AM LOSING MY MIND. I KNOW I WAS READING THE OTHER THREAD AND THIS ONE... WHAT THE FUCK

I don't remember the music draft being this hard to understand. Which is surprising given that the rules are almost identical. ;)
We get to pick our favorite GAFFERS round per round. :lol

I know, it's my fault for letting people sign up. The next round should be end of sign ups.

It's true. I have no idea what the hell happened with this. The other went off without a hitch and this is a trainwreck so far.

You can't do that.
Sorry about that, I literally changed it five seconds after I posted it. After I hit post I realized that I should've picked Lawrence of Arabia but it was too late to cancel my post. HAVE MERCY ON ME.

Once Upon a Time in the West - Sergio Leone

Oh dude, cold as ice. That's the kind of movie I wouldn't have remembered to pick for another couple of rounds, I can't believe someone else would pick it so fast.

I decided for the movie draft I am going to pick up my straight up favorite films instead of picking movies I loved to appeal to others. You can always have El Topo or Santa Sangre. Brazil was a great first rounder for I remember it being on so many top 10 lists during some other thread.

I am glad someone picked up Red even though I love Blue and Double Life of Veronique more. I think I might go with that next round perhaps.

Sorry to all the people of the Music Tournament. I have been super busy and I am going to Austin tomorrow. I will try and tally up on Thursday during the daytime for when I am not boozing with old friends.

Holy Crap at the number of people not reading the rules! It takes less than a minute to read, I'm sure you can spare the time.

#2 Monty Python and the Holy Grail - Terry Gilliam

Eh, it's not that big of a deal.

I really think 2 picks a night would benefit this draft. 5-days is much easier for people to stay on and it helps heighten the NEED.

He's trying to stick with the same format that the music draft followed. We debated similar stuff there but ultimately did 1 pick per day over 10 days.

Oh wow! With the exception of 2001: A Space Odyssey, I was able to pick 2 of my 3 favorite films. The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, and......(ROUND TWO PICK)

Vertigo - (Hitchcock, 1958)

If you pick a movie from a director YOU can never pick a movie by him again, two people can pick to different movies from the same director in the same round.

I've already lost fight club and seven, which were my next two go-to's. I'll pick on my next post so it's not editted and stuff.

Not sure if El Topo's in the same league (then again, haven't seen it in a long while), and I still haven't seen Santa Sangre :(

I really want to, too, since one of GAF's resident film buffs VALIS ranks it as his #1 of all-time. I need to find a boot of that shit, damn thing still doesn't have an R1 release and I still haven't got myself a region-free player.
