really? i kinda like having them all together. it's not like this thread gets updated that much that it's getting too cluttered. i like hearing people talk about all kinds of electronic music. for someone like me who doesn't regularly hear any of this info outside his computer, this thread is like a godsend.

It's actually a bit sad that I have been so out of the trance loop that I don't even know who 90% of those DJs are :p

You aren't kidding. You got me beat even, could not recognize a single name off those lists! I just assumed it was trance because of it, lol.

Here are some djs from the Crystal Clouds sets that you might enjoy:

Aly & Fila (Egyptian style trance)
Leon Bolier (What Tiesto would sound like today if he spun like he did back in early 2002)
Ferry Tayle (8 hour set of all the best trance tracks in the past 8 years or so)
Airwave (some of the best remixes have been made by him)
Misja Helsloot
Markus Schulz (Soon to be the #1 DJ in trance because of his awesome track selection and production skills). Definitely download his 8 hour solo set from last week in Ibiza: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=G4GK3KW7
Mike Saint-Jules (House and Trance combined is this guys style)

Try downloading some of those sets. Especially the 8 hour set by Ferry Tayle. That set will catch you up on everything you have missed.

Ferry Corsten is also really good: Here is the latest episode from his show from yesterday:

Ferry Corsten - Corsten's Countdown 118 - 30.09.2009

Top 10 of September:

10. Akesson - Flavour Park
09. Alpha 9 - Bliss (Original Mix)
08. Tritonal - I Can Feel (Original Mix)
07. The Prodigy - Omen (Reaky's Bootleg Mix)
06. Markus Schulz - Do You Dream (Ferry Corsten Fix)
05. Jan Oostdyk - Eivissa Eivissa (Original Mix)
04. Michael Woods - Dropzone (Club Mix)
03. Dennis Sheperd & Cold Blue - Freefalling (Cold Blue Remix)
02. Sean Tyas - I Remember Now (Original Mix)
01. Rafaël Frost - Black Box (Red Edit)

I live in Chicago, learned to spin with Chicago House. Those DJ's will always hold a special place in my heart.

One of the greatest mixtapes ever is Mixmag presents Derrick Carter Cosmic Disco. The intro takes me so far back and sends chills up my spine. By the time it gets around to Earthshaker I am lost in times past. <3

Desyn Masiello is the dj that other house djs listen to. The sets I posted from Desyn in 2004 should be similar to the Cosmic Disco set. Enjoy. :D

feeling meh about this one too. I've had it on my Ipod for a while and I keep skipping it every time it comes on. I'm sure it would be good to hear live but its just annoying on its own.
has anyone dipped into the new crookers album?

Desyn Masiello
Style: House / Progressive

Desyn incorporates house classics, deep, tech, funky and progressive. His musical taste takes inspiration from acid house, funk, soul, disco, rock, Indie, Brazilian, carnival, reggae, dub... the list is endless. "Many tracks I find may not be instantly playable to the new generation of dance, music, fanatics. So I use technology such as pro tools to re-edit tracks; they will then fit into my visions and slot into my sets”. Examples of Desyn’s edits that are played (by himself as well as fellow DJs/Producers) have been of Yellow, Blondie, the Eurythmics, The Beatles, Depeche Mode and James Brown.

well, if the "supposed leak" of the new crookers album is legit... they are good at their style. it's more complex than their past stuff, but its still not my style. they really are too hip hop for me.

Kitsuné

since when does a fox need an accent aigu?
I doubt it's the real deal. The track with Kelis ("No Security") isn't even on it. I do wonder where the other tracks come from. That Depeche Mode cover is so hilarious and awful at the same time :lol

Any (Dutch) Gaffers here going to X-Qlusive Holland next saturday? Can't wait for Alphaverb's hour long set, and half hour long live-act. And parties in the Heineken Music Hall are always something to look out to; the bass there makes your lungs shake.

Of course. The sets I posted are not just trance or house. They include: dance, acid house, funk, soul, deep house, disco house, trance, hard house/trance, ambient, and progressive house/trance.

If it sounds good I listen to it. I do not care about styles. The reason I post so much trance and house is because I have found that is where the best tracks are.

I suggest downloading either the Desyn or Markus sets. They play so many styles, track selection is flawless and so is there mixing.

Which styles do you like? What are your favorite artists? So far you're the first one I 'know' here who likes harder electronic music.

I doubt it's the real deal. The track with Kelis ("No Security") isn't even on it. I do wonder where the other tracks come from. That Depeche Mode cover is so hilarious and awful at the same time :lol
the kelis song is on HER new album, not crookers.

Oh wow, didn't know that. Still a bit strange though that Jump Up (Major Lazer) is on it, and the Kelis track isn't.

House envelopes all kinds of styles now, what are we missing? MY mixes I have posted contain House, Hip Hop, World, Nu, etc.

FUUUUUUUUUUUU!

I just got Justice's A Cross the Universe live album and it's fanTAStic. The live version of Genesis is so good, and the rest of the album flows so nicely and keeps a nice tempo throughout.

I'm actually putting it over Daft Punk's Alive album right now, but that may just be because it's my newest album at the moment.

Any other good live albums I should check out along these lines?

a cross the universe is soooooo a year ago :p haha

yeah it was a fantastic cd. i didn't like how loud the crowd was, i thought the alive 2007 cd had a much better balance.

and im not sure where you can look for more live cds of that calibre, i usually don't prefer crowd sounds in mixes. but if you're just looking for a mix, well theres a huge market of mix cds by djs. i don't really know what to recommend.

if you really liked a cross the universe (and justice in general), you should check out MSTRKRFT and the Bloody Beetroots. these might be obvious and you probably have heard them already but just in case ;)

Oh wow, lots of interesting stuff has happened in this thread:

Game Analyst - I have actually met Mike Saint Jules in person before, he spins occasionally at Love in NYC. Aly and Fila aren't my thing at all though :p

Also I see you are a Desyn fan, he is one of my favorite DJs! Saw him at Electric Zoo in NYC and he played a drum&bass set, that was the most talked about set of the performance. Search youtube "desyn masiello electric zoo" and you can even spot me in some of the videos :p Check out Luke Fair, Add2Basket, Spirit Catcher, Tom Morgan, Jody Wisternoff if you like his style. Woscar from TA is a really cool guy. Are you a TA poster perchance?

Joelseph - Ocelot mix sounds right up my alley, just downloaded it. Is that the same Ocelot who did Dragonette-Competition (Ocelot rmx)?

Nyx - was listening to Yoshiesque vol 2 in the car the other day. Absolutely love the first disk of that, some great funky deep melodies. I'll grab your new mix too, I liked your other ones.

Some new sets I've been listening to, of the nu-disco/funky/deep house variety:

Jody Wisternoff - Live at Sullivan Room 2009-09-26 (wanted to go to this but was busy that weekend :( )

Jamie Jones Essential Mix 10-2-2009

Seth Troxler at Busta Groove, Dice Club (Berlin) - Aug 28th, 2009

I kind of dabble around Electronic music because I really have no idea what's popular or good these days and no one I know listens to this stuff. I'm really just into stuff that has a good tempo and doesn't sound like organized noise. Boys Noize for instance is something that I've repeatedly tried to get into but I can only moderately get there.

I've heard some samples from both MSTRKRFT and the Beetroots and wasn't blown away by anything really, but I wouldn't mind trying them out again.

As for crowd noise, I love it. Makes me imagine being there in the darkened area with blazing lights around. Scooter I'm assuming puts fake crowd noise behind their songs sometimes to boost the effect.

...so I don't really know what I like. I just know if I like what I hear.

Aye Yoshiesque vol 2 is really great, part 1 is pretty good too, although it might sound a bit too dated. (and it's not as great as vol. 2)

That new mix of me has some great tracks, but the mixing is a bit off here and there unfortunately, especially track 1 to 2, and 10 to 11 iirc. (the volume of 11 is way too loud)

Cool you enjoyed the older ones !

The two hour fake blood essential mix I keep pushing is live. The first hour would be right up your ally too. Support real DJs!

Well, our house just got some turntables and a mixer.
They're kinda crappy, but nobody that lives here really has any experience whatsoever.
We got some used Stantons.

Personally, I'm more interested in seeing if I can spin some trance or house but don't really know where to start.. lol. I just spent around 2 hours just futzing around. But pretty much just ended up listening to music. :lol

If you guys could make some beginner record recommendations.. that would be great.
You know, stuff that anyone could make sound good together.

well, if the "supposed leak" of the new crookers album is legit... they are good at their style. it's more complex than their past stuff, but its still not my style. they really are too hip hop for me.
I've been a hangaround in this thread for a while, checking here for good picks on what to listen. My usual taste is on the pop fringe of electronic music (Röyksopp, Groove Armada, Cut Copy), but as I used to love more "proper" electronic music it's always great to get pointers from the thread - my thanks to everyone.

Bringing me to the reason why I wanted to post into this thread - Transilvania by Crookers is just amazing and now I'm aching to get the full album (release date, couldn't find a definitive?). How did electronic music get this good without anyone telling me :)
