I swear to god XLR8R gives every release there is a 7.5/10.

Not hard when your review scale is between 6 and 9. I seriously don't think they go lower or higher than that. Their reviews are worthless, but the site itself is great.

Umm... crikey.
Alex Metric and Mark Yardley - "Ilium"

Metric has consistently surprised the fuck out of me, ever since I looked him up after his efforts in the Forza 4 intro movie. Digging this track! Not so much the breakdown ~1:19 (though it's not 'orrible) but the rest of the track sounds fucking killer. As far as clubby/commercial stuff goes... I dig it.

Edit: Okay, so it seems that the video may be new... but the track itself is not. There ya go.

Out of their comfort zone, it really shows. Somebody like Randomer, Funkineven or such would have killed 'Manic' in that style.

I still play out the Maceo Plex remix on the regular, with fantastic results every time.

None of Disclosure's remixes, so far, have had any impact or staying power.

Holy shit:

http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?478511

The series will kick off its inaugural event on the July 4th holiday with DJ legend SASHA and his acclaimed Never Say Never party. The 1st Brooklyn edition of NSN will feature SASHA making his Verboten debut playing alongside Supplement Facts boss GUY GERBER, visiting us from his new Pacha Ibiza residency Wisdom of the Glove, and "Queen of the Underground" Maya Jane Coles. They are joined by Verboten & Circoloco resident DAVIDE SQUILLACE and Guy's Supplement Facts label mate BILL PATRICK for a non-stop day of amazing music.

Guess I just found my July 4 plans.

Want to know something funny? I was mixing some shiz earlier and played of these songs, but in a different order. Weird!

I don't think anyone will be disappointed :)
Agreed, really enjoying the Classixx album. Some of those songs were released a looong time ago though (I'll Get You was 2011).

I still play out the Maceo Plex remix on the regular, with fantastic results every time.

None of Disclosure's remixes, so far, have had any impact or staying power.
100% agree. Love some of their original stuff though.

I'm sure it was posted in here closer to its release, but I'm just now hearing it. This Oneman mix for the Diplo and Friends Radio 1 takeover is pretty great.
Oneman takes over Diplo & Friends Show for a FULL 2HOURS on Radio 1 & 1xtra

20/04/2013

This is the original mix and has no presenting. More like an essential mix.

I know this is an old, old, old, old, played to death track, but can we please talk quickly about the brilliancy that is Blawan - Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage? There are so many things this track does just so, so, so many things right. It's a track that breaks so many boundaries and has such an impact that will, ultimately, transcend generations. Ultimately, it's a very simple track. A kick, a vocal, a bass guitar sample, a high hat, a smattering of effects, it takes the barest essentials and makes an absolutely timeless burner. A track that is recognizable by its first hit, the only fault it has is that is SO recognizable by its vocal, one that is so infectious that people can't help but sing along to it. However, that marks its staying power. It will ultimately be the track that people, years later, go, "oh, here it comes again, the bodies song," but not be able to not sing along to it. Each piece of it, individually, is fairly standard, but as a whole, it paints such a unique and infection picture that you can't help but lose yourself int it.

edit: when the track was first ever unleashed on the world, during his Boiler Room set way back when, I rewound the set time and time again just to hear this specific track. The weight of it, the depth, the breadth, it's just a brilliantly composed track in ever single sense that, even with its recognizability and pop-sense (and, ultimately, ability to be over-played) it has enough character to over stay its welcome well into the future.

Well put, I always thought it was the pop tune for techno. Brilliant production underneath of it all, crazy stuff happening in the bass guitar.

edit: have tonight the big gig, wish me luck!

Steve Lawler Q&A: On DJing, Fatherhood and the Problem With 'EDM'

Big interview, loads of good stuff.
Definitely one of my alltime heroes.

Have you been paying to attention to what's going on in America with "EDM" and all the big business that's flowing into the culture?

Yeah I'm aware of it, yeah. Honestly, the problem with corporate - and I know because I've worked with sponsors over the years, and what you often find is, you know, where there is money, there's a real lack of integrity. And that is a problem. What I think the best way for this to move forward, and I believe is happening, if the big investors want to come in to the business, and this business to boom, that is OK. But they have to use - for lack of a better explanation - our people. If you take out the guy who knows - how do I explain this. If the blue chips come in and they try to do it themselves, it's going to fuck things up royally. I mean it's going to royally fuck things up. But if they come in and invest, but let the people that know what we're doing that have been working in this scene for 20 years, and that love this scene with every passion, then there's no reason why - I'll give you an example. Let's say there's a girl I know that's been working in the scene for 15 years as a PR, and she's been earning shit money but she does this because she loves it. and all of a sudden a big blue chip company comes in and plows loads of money into what they do. But as long as they use these people, then these people can still retain the integrity, but all of a sudden she can do better in life. She can put her daughter through a better school. She can now have a nicer car. She can now live in a bigger apartment. There's nothing wrong with that, as long as the money that's being invested is being invested in the right way. Because we're the people that have made this scene, the people that have been in this, and loved it, and breathed it, and eaten it , for all of our lives.

I think it's important. I don't think its bad for investments to come into this business. Because it's not a bad thing for people to do better. But the integrity has to remain. Otherwise, if you lose the artistic impression, if you lose the integrity, you can put a stop block on this business right there. I'm telling you, because if the blue chips come in and they try to run the show and they do everything, it's over. It's over. It will just turn into something completely different and it's over. And I believe that's important. I've seen it happen in other industries, so we have to retain our artistic impression here otherwise it's gone.

This is why I say it's great to have these big gigs and the festivals, but it's just as important to have these illegal warehouse parties, these basements. One cannot survive without the other. not anymore. If you take away the basements and the warehouses, the business will be over before you know it. If you take away the festivals and the big shows, then people aren't going to do as well as they deserve to.

Would you guys recommend someone who hadn't heard either listen to Homework or Discovery first?

Daft Punk if the above isn't clear enough.

Shaneus

Discovery, without a doubt. Homework is probably a little more "old school" and would requite more effort to try and enjoy, I think. Discovery is almost the opposite, where the majority of enjoyment can be experienced on the first or second listen and you don't have to wrap your head around anything to appreciate it.

If that makes sense.

For the techno-lovers here at GAF, have you heard Iueke - Tapes? Apparently, the stuff was produced back in 1991/1992 and was only available on tape, and then played by Aphex Twin in some of his shows, and now it's remastered and put on vinyl.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9CnsesoTZk

A local store had a copy of it, so snagged it immediately after hearing the samples. Some serious techno vibes, can't frigging believe it was created over 20 years ago.

I played this for a mate last night, who I was sure had heard it before but definitely hadn't. I was as surprised as he was (I haven't heard it for AGES) just how current it sounds, both in production values (off the chart) and style/construction:

Remi Nicole - Fed Up (Kissy Sell Out remix)
(No YT link, it seems to be blocked in all regions. But track it down, it's rad as hell.)

Been meaning to share this with you guys but kept forgetting... until now! It's a mate's re-edit of The Revenge's remix of Stevie Wonder's Night Flight.
Night Flight (Scotty D edit)

Manages to capture the LNTG vibe really, really well. I keep forgetting that it was him that knocked it up and ask if it's some LNTG track he played yonks ago :/
