It's just various downtempo music from movie soundtracks. Guess you have to be in the right mood for it and it should really only be treated as bgm while you do other stuff e.g. go to sleep.

I know what you mean though, my terminology is still stuck in the 90s. Unfortunately chill and chill-out got bad names for themselves because of the wealth of crappy generic "lifestyle" compilations that were constantly advertised on TV. Similar thing happens with the word trance.

Love that remix, got it on Chicane's "Chilled" album haha.

The genre is huge, and practically undefinable. It'll always mean different things to everyone. No surprise that it's listed as trance though, since that's what Chicane are seen as (even though to me they're more epic house).

One more chill song...

Bliss - Kissing

Man, when I saw Chicane at a festival, it was *almost* awesome. Almost, because the fuckhead doing the mixing had the live drums WAY higher than they should have been, so they basically drowned out everything else that was being sung/played.

I recall there being a female vocalist for a male-sung track... it was either Don't Give Up or that Tom Jones one.

The one I linked before was probably my favourite Chicane track, but I love this one purely because it's largely unknown amongst most fans (from what I can gather):
Disco Citizens - Footprint

PS. Thanks for that link, mikshu! Love the look of it, downloading now :)

Edit: Fun fact: Offshore '97 was actually a bootleg of the original, done by none other than Australia's Anthony Pappa (who I'll be seeing soon with Diggers!).

Yes! 'Footprint' is awesome!

Heres a couple a little less known favourites:
'Nagasaki Badger (Original Mix)

Luce Drayton - To Be Loved (Disco Citizens Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-KsCIRMgIg

The amount of times I've listened to that live @ palladium in my car is just insane - basically all of my high school, hahah

edit: ffs these nostalgic feels I always get when people are talking about older trance - I was about thirteen years old, when I first heard System F's 'Out Of The Blue' and there was no turning back after that. I just wish that the whole genre didn't turn into the circlejerk it is today.

Man, I was exactly the same, except I was around 18 when I heard stuff like Out of the Blue. I have a theory, in that trance (well, technically *prog* trance) tends to be the potential gateway for people into electronic club music. Eventually everyone gets tired of it (unless they use it as an excuse to drop pills at every possible opportunity) and whether they choose to listen to deeper (by that I mean music with more depth) stuff or just drop electronic music all-together,... that's their thing.

Justice's live album dropped a few days ago. It's called Access All Arenas. Cross was such a fantastic album and I still love it. Audio, Video, Disco was a little bit of a disappointing. Not necessarily bad, but it just didn't click as well (I think this accounts for the majority of people). Anyways, AAA is a fantastic live album that combines both albums very well in my opinion. Audio, Video, Disco might be a little bit boring listening bland but it works very well this way, it reminds me a little bit of Human After all / Alive '07.

Anyone got a non hype train review of the new daft punk?

Shit sucks. -Joelseph

Random quotes from my FB wall

"New Daft Punk... um... pass."

"Next week you will see why Daft Punk and their label spent a gajillion dollars advertising and hyping up Random Access Memories. It's because people would not buy it based upon the merit of the music. All but 3 tracks binned."

That's what I'm looking for. I hope the dj falcon track is one of the good ones though

Cosmic Bus

About 3/4s through the DP stream and it's really making me cringe; a few of the songs are (unintentionally?) hilarious. The Moroder track is okay but mostly because he's an interesting guy to listen to. Album is like the Poochie of hyper-calculated music, lacking all the passion and joy and vibrancy of the disco they were so desperately trying to emulate.
