Just looked up some Riva Starr on YT then... I Was Drunk is VERY nice and should work well for my beer garden gig this NYE. If there's anything similar you can recommend that fits in with that vibe (whatever it is... I'm shit with genre definitions) then let me know!

Last week a friend and me were supposed to make a promo mix with TC vinyl, as we are trying to get ourselves behind the decks on small parties here and there, so I've been busy for hours trying to make the best tracklist I could.

Unfortunately due to circumstances, we didn't mix at all that night.

Therefore I've recorded the mix in Ableton, to listen if my tracklist indeed is as good as I thought it would be.

I'm very happy with the result, and I would like you guys to give me some feedback on the track selection, the buildup, and the way tracks fit together.

Don't bother with feedback on mixing technique, as it's straight-forward, and made in Ableton, so not very hard at all. Also don't mind the minor EQ errors here and there. ;)

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XRZANQL7

It's a mix of deephouse and techhouse, 123-126 BPM.

I can't get enough of Passion Pit - Little Secrets. That Jack Beat's Remix just does it for me, I could die happy listening to that fucking thing on repeat.

That's really, really nice... actually has potential to chart, too. Hope there's an official release by Christmas!

PS. Really, really nice. Nay, hot as fuck!

Edit: Apparently produced by Mr. Oizo... explains a lot, really.

She's had stuff produced by a few different people, so it's good to see that he's back doing her stuff.

PS. IMO that track has "radio friendly" written all over it. If Ke$ha (or whatever her name is) can get a #1 song (yes, it's #1 in Australia. Fuck our music-buying public.) then Uffie should be able to shit it in.

Been downloading mixes for the last few hours. Got this fantastic 8 hour set featuring Ben Klock, Steffi, Sissi at an Ostgut Ton event sometime this year, another phenomenal Steffi mix, a new Skoozbot, Ame, Revenge, Koze... I don't think I'm going to be sleeping tonight. Techno and late night hours do not mix well with me, because I end up staying up all night finding anything I can find. On that note, if anyone wants to toss anything my way, that'd be greatly appreciated.

Two months ago, I think, I downloaded a mix from here, by, I believe, subrock (you're touchbass, right?), and it's called "UPSIDEDOWN," and it's fantastic. However, ever since I first listened to it, one song in particular in the mix brought me back again and again, and that's the Rex the Dog remix of "This Must Be It" by Royksopp. Well, I finally got the single, and my god, that song is truly, truly, truly, to play out an already played out word, epic. The original, and the Rex remix, are absolutely phenomenal, and are the kind of songs where I literally could just put them on repeat and drift off slowly into a coma, and I wouldn't care if I ever woke up.

Been getting really lazy lately with keeping up with the up and up... Need to get back into my routine. Working 40 hours a week along with having a girlfriend and too many friends to catch up with leaves little time to my own hobbies these days. Can't wait til New Years Eve, though. Found out The Crystal Method will be playing the Green Dolphin here in Chicago! Never been the biggest fan of TCM, but I've been trying to find a good party to go to on NYE, and this looks to be about the best I'll get (not that I'm complaining).

Also, I find it really funny that PALM is using the LOL remix of "Sleepy Head" by Passion Pit in their commercial for their new phone. I love that remix, but I hate hate HATE that squelchy synth solo that is so predominant in it.

EDIT: Almost forgot! Who's going to be catching Vitalic on his ridiculously short U.S. tour next year? Can't fucking WAIT to see him at the Empty Bottle!

okno: Have you heard the Florian Meindl remix of that track? It's soooo fucking good. Perfect minimal/tech track. Love it.

Here:

(sounds better when pitched up a little, though)

PS. Had a listed to that Rex remix... didn't really grab me. But not because it's a shit track, just isn't my thing :)

Yeah. Her new album has productions with Feadz, Oizo, and SebastiAn iirc. Her rap is really sloppy though.

no doubt. i don't get what the deal is with the new song. the rap skills on that song were pitiful compared to her other stuff. sounded so amateur. the production was sick though.

Thanks for digging my my okno. You should check out my newer mix electrolives. I think it might be up your alley.

I saw classixx last night and I have to say "mehhhhhhhhh". They were playing melodic disco shit which I like but it never really got above 120 bpm. I don't mind that if you are opening for someone but you should at very least be able to come in after your openers have cracked the party open and destroy it. I mean, I don't even mind being at a slower tempo but at least do something besides mixing in every song on the drum outro. 2 guys on one serato rig should be able to figure that out I feel. Would not see again.

Sounds like a good gig, got any IDs of what they played?

Agreed.. but I think that's kind of why I like it. Production is the main reason, obviously... but the daggy, amateurish rapping is somewhat endearing.

Much prefer what she did on Ready to Uff, though.

Fever Ray BBC 6 Winter Solstice Mix

http://www.4shared.com/file/173755169/34cc9d38/Fever_Ray_Winter_Solstice_Mix.html?err=no-sess

Karin Dreijer Andersson (The Knife, Fever Ray) was recently asked to compose a mix for the UK’s BBC 6. Entitled The Winter Solstice Mix, this mix is just that… an hour long celebration of the coming the frost. And aside from the BBC’s spliced in Mac voice promos, this is a pretty great and eclectic set that is both what you might and might not expect from electronic wizard. The Laurie Anderson influence on Karin Dreijer and her inclusion not once but twice I totally see, but Tomahawk, Converge? Awesome.

In this very special 6 Mix, Karin reflects on the Fever Ray project and its success as well as playing the music which soundtracks her Winter Solstice including tunes from Electrelane, Stina Nordenstam, Laurie Anderson and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

1) Laurie Anderson — White Lilly
2) Electrelane — The Valleys
3) Sonic Youth — Shadow of a Doubt
4) Plastikman — Disconnect
5) Silverbullit — Winter Coat
6) Fennesz — Transit
7) Charlotte Gainsbourg — Irm
8) Stina Nordenstam — Parliment Square (The Knife Remix)
9) Lydia Lunch — Some Boys
10) Afrirampo — Natsu Ga Kita
11) Martin Rev — Mari
12) Skriet — Fåglarna
13) Tomahawk — Omaha Dance
14) Laurie Anderson — Radar
15) Goblin — Theme From Suspiria
16) Converge — Worms Will Feed, Rats Will Feast

Dude I thought you got permed or something and now you are back with a different avatar! I can't not think of you listening to that Nacho Lovers deep tech set, goodness they got some bangers on there.

Just grabbed the new Twelves Essential along with a bunch of other christmas goodies I slept on over the break. Too bad work is super busy today and I am the only one here, bah humbug.

I dont really listen to whatever type of music this is (DJ Sprinkles - Grand Central Pt. 1 - Deep Into The Bowel Of House (Motor City Drum Ensemble Bassline Dub) but any other suggestions for stuff like it? Keep youtubing it and listing to it over an over :lol

In my opinion it's better than "Across the Universe".
The Soulwax one is more about the music, the touring process and the interesting people they run into along the way... A Cross is just about them getting shitfaced and going nuts.

Plus how can you NOT love the Daewele brothers pulling off a note-perfect rendition of Washing Up?

On this note, I'll give a brief recap of the acts I saw at Summadayze in Melbourne on NYD:

Fake Blood: Amazing set, yet there was ZERO bottom end on the system he was on (kept hearing kicks coming from two other stages!) and didn't play Mars OR Fix Your Accent. Was a bit pissed at the time, but got over it because his set other than those two issues was flawless. Can scratch with the best of them (fuckloads better than Krafty Kuts who was on before him) which gets big points from me too.

Sebastien Leger: Fairly basic, cliche 4x4 set that was good, but didn't really do anything for me. System he was playing on was amazing, though.

2manydjs: As expected, crazy set where they played everything from The Clash to New Order to Madonna to Out of Space by The Prodigy. Truly blown away.

Don Diablo: Easily my favourite DJ going around at the moment. Thoroughly entertaining, charismatic, energetic and can nail a set perfectly. Saw him a little over 12 months ago and loved the shit out of his performance then just as he did at SD, even though it was 30 mins shorter. I'm not a fan of his tracks but the stuff he was playing just blew me away. He can work a crowd like no-one else, either.
Side note: He played an amazing remix of Somebody Told Me that I had to find out about. For shits and giggles, I tweeted him late last night while I was half-drunk asking what the track was, and he responded in under 20 minutes! Would have no problems seeing him live again... fucking incredible.

Didn't really see anyone else play (saw Wink briefly... v. disappointing) but the acts I did see I was very impressed with. Especially Diablo.
