The Official NeoGAF Groundbreaking Electronic Music Thread™

It all sounds the same. :/

Better:

Mixhell, Soulwax, & Crookers- We Love Animals

from the Crookers mailing list:
“Mixhell collaborating with Soulwax and Crookers on a sort of audioexquisite corpse. It goes like this: Soulwax put down a synth track,Mixhell laid down some electronic and acoustic drums, a cute kid sayscrookers coco (crookers shit), Crookers and Soulwax take turnsmixing.”

Hi.

So, you guys should check out this guy: Groj
He's one guy, from Montreal, just found him while browsing through Beatport (people talk about that "wiki walking," or whatever, where you fall into the trap of endlessly rewarding, random search results, I get that with Beatport). I think it's pretty great, but maybe I'm just high.

That Holy Ghost! mix is fire.

Going on from my post on the last page, what's the general consensus on GAF of Don Diablo as a DJ? As a producer I really don't rate him very highly, but live he's just amazing.

Having only heard his production work, he's decent. I've heard good jams, I've heard bad ones. I'll have to find you this really great remix he did of some bad I don't remember or really care enough about to remember the name of, but his remix of it is ace.

Never seen him live but I enjoy some of his older remix work. His remix of Walter Meego's Girls is awesome!

Great article at L&Q on Erol Alkan, if you don't know much about him you should read it.

Good interview/article... not really a fan of the guy's electro/indie dance type stuff, but him being more focused on disco/classic house music makes me interested. Seems like lately, the new big thing is disco, new and old, alongside nostalgic-sounding house.

After listening to the copy of Live at the Paradise Garage CD that I gave my friend for Christmas, it will be a good thing. What was/is known as stereotypically "gay" house music (at least in the late 70s, early 80s) is becoming more and more popular as people start to back away from the harshness of fluoro-electro.

And I have no problem with that whatsoever.

Used to dabble with speed garage back in the late 90s when I would get sick of playing french house. The best garage DJ I knew ended up spinning DnB and now produces deep house. Go figure.

I'd like to turn some of you on to a DJ/Producer called Alex Metric, he's done a few on Radio 1's In New DJs We Trust, has some EPs of his own. And he does an awesome live set. You may have heard one of his songs in one of the Forza 3 tracks, or one of his remixes, can't remember.

Adam Freeland - It's Under Control (Alex Metric Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtFLMXC7ix0
it's pretty heavy

Alex Metric - Gusto [recent one]

Alex Metric - Deadly on a Mission (Dub) [early]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MV58gNumVrs

Beastie Boys - Sabotage (Alex Metric Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVsIjJ5GrHc

Girl sent me a mixtape with this track on it - MUST LISTEN
Fox N' Wolf - Youth Alcoholic (Etienne de Crécy remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaznGM_yjOg

Etienne de Crécy is best known for his Fast Track that was put with a vocal and then got played in clubs a lot.

Live at Matter
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G29rwyuKVQ0

That's the Fast Track (Vocal Mix). He's in the UK this and next month, check his myspace.

My personal favourite track over the festive period:
Lykke Li - Dance Dance Dance (Dixon Edit)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0ROxqvhvts
the sound isn't great in that vid but such a tune

Danger is a Frenchman who does his sets wearing a full-body black... suit thing.
2mo9vvb.jpg

His sound is kinda similar to Kavinsky, real 80s synth. The teaser for his next EP being released later this month is in some pretty cool 16-bit video game style.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfGSnhYsZLw

Lastly, I'd never heard B.E.A.T. by Justice that's found on their D.A.N.C.E. ep until recently - it's very good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YVzGdIMItM

I've seen them 3 times now and every time has been amazing. Best was in Spain when they did Benicassim festival, then second was at a club called Egg in London - it was the most rammed I've ever seen any club. There was sweat on the walls and I had to stand on a table with my girl - but thanks to some alcohol and MDMA I had a night I'll never forget.

if anyone likes any of this stuff let me know and I'll try and find some other artists.

Small favour to ask of you all: I've just stumbled across the Tommy Trash remix of The Ridge by Mason (Beatport link) and know I've heard it somewhere before but can't place it. Was it in a game (I'm thinking Midnight Club or GTA, but it doesn't seem to be) or a mix or even a movie?

It's killing me!

Dataworx - Focus (original mix) has a sort of similar sound to that intro. It's in MC:LA if I'm not mistaken.

I haven't heard that remix before, sounds really good.

I suspect I *may* have found the source... it's possible it could've been from a TV ad for this. I could still swear I heard it in a game, but that would explain it if I heard it on TV.

IMO 2010 will lean heavy on disco and garage influences and I'm hoping some older techno sounds get thrown back into the mix. IE: the advent..

keeping a close eye on Dubbel Dutch as well.

I was really big into 2-step garage back in the day, but then went back to prog and trance, and now of course am into house. Surprisingly, even with as much as I loved 2-step, never did get into dubstep.

Grant Nelson went from 2-step and now produces deep house, is that the garage DJ you knew? :O

Gucci Mane remix album is out this morning on maddecent.com and the site is getting hit so hard. It is free and worth the trouble of refreshing the site until it loads.

Funny, I do believe Nash aka DECK'ARD still owes us the Metric setlist from ibar from God knows how long ago. This video on Facebook was the thing that kept me coming to these Electronic music threads here on NeoGAF. :)

Where you at, Nash? :p jk much love <3 (though I still would love this setlist)

And I know Etienne de Crecy better for his Superdiscount stuff. I think his remix of the Bravery's An Honest Mistake on the Burnout soundtrack is fucking aces.

But welcome to the thread! Great way to introduce yourself!

Uproot Andy at T&B's Escape From NY, if anyone is in the area you should check it out.

The new M.I.A. song/video is great! Can't wait to hear those remixes. Rusko is killing it on production.
