Vice did an article on the new EDM industry in America.
The guy clearly knows fuck all about the music but his analysis of the business is pretty interesting.
As an aside, there's a fascinating PHD to be written on why masculinity is such an integral part in achieving mainstream pop culture saturation in America (see EDM, angry Kirby, cock rock etc).
wut. Avicii might be EDMs Great Hope, a mainstream figure that the underground is pretty okay with
EDM is a genre of pop music and a sub genre of dance music. It isn't synonymous with dance music. I would prefer it was called Rave 2.0.
Don't talk to me about that EDM thread. I couldn't believe there managed to be a group of people more pretentious about electronic music than us on GAF (or anywhere else on the internet, let's be honest), but there you have itI didnt even know it was a "genre". I went into community and looked at the EDm thread and it confused me even more..
There is Digweed mixes being posted in there which just adds to it.

http://www.redeyerecords.co.uk/asp/view_product.asp?id=44581The writeup is such a tease, I didn't see the B side previewed on SC and I really want to hear it after what they had to say. Is the preview up on a preorder site for the B side?
Ah i saw this up for preorder on redeye. He kind of vanished for awhile did he not? I remember a fact or some such mix that was pretty stand out.
I'm looking to get more into electronic music. Really all I have experience with is Daft Punk, Burial, The Avalanches, and DJ Shadow. You guys have any recommendations based on that? Hip hop influence is a huge bonus.

edit: and Gorillaz, if that counts, is one of my favorite "bands"

That was very cool, thanks.
And Dreaver, I'm familiar with and a fan of TNGHT, so if they're any indication of your other recommendations I'm sure I'll enjoy them. Thanks.

I'm a big fan of the track right at the halfway point, too
DfP or GW? The latter wasn't as good as I'd hoped when I saw him this year (was far better, funnily enough, at Future where he was playing in a promo Jack Daniels hut, no shit).Saw him at New Guernica, but didn't actually realise till a few days later

a) Yeah, it's rad. First time I heard that was a year and a bit (or two) ago in his EM.GW. Went there for a few drinks on a Melbourne trip (went and saw Raekwon and Pavement) and he was playing. It was before I was really into dance, but he played a great set. His Psycho Killer remix went off.
How is Future? The line up is always so... bipolar.
Having a Jack Daniels tent at a dance festival is bizarre.
Bought this one finally,
A true banger from Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo's label Crydamoure. Sampled strings, banging drums and Zeus himself punishing you from not dancing, epic.
Might aswell share it with you guys since no-one except the sellers on discogs are getting money from this release today.
