Bo En - Miss You
some seriously must have shit for your summer .. It's like this over the top happy pandemonium of japanese commercials, glitchy drums, bird singing, childhood and all. Sounds weird but trust me on this.
https://soundcloud.com/bo-en/miss-you

Did you manage to catch this when it was a free DL? It reminds me of some hyper happy Rustie or something.

Edit: nvm had to update quicktime and got it via dropbox.

Would people mind giving this a listen? I made it a few days ago basically for one friend but its kind of grown on me.
There are a couple of pure train wrecks but there are also a few bits im pretty happy with.

Whether thats because ive re-listened to it about 5 times and become desensitized to how shit it potentially is is why Im asking some outsiders who would ahve no problem tearing it apart :)

John-Lenham- Night (35mins long)
Tracklist is a mix of Burial, Jamie XX and the XX. My traktor history wipes on shutdown for some reason so I lost the proper one..sorry.
Bookmarked it, I'll give it a listen later.

awesome awesome, what would you call the sorts of house that you listen to btw?

Ehm... In broadest of terms, I'd say its deep house. It's a huge mix of Chicago, New York and acid, really, wish some techno inbetween. I don't really go by genre, just by sound. I like a really deep, funky, spacey vibe, so if a track fits that mold I buy it.

Nice nice, I thought it might be deep house, or maybe minimal. Like I said, I'm mostly getting into house through you. I guess it goes for a lot of us that explore music so passionately that we end up latching onto sounds that fit us. At this point I can tell someone what domain I listen to, but can't convey what it is I will end up liking. Guess music is fun like that.

Oh totally! For me, really, if its weird and I can dance to it, I like it. That's why I like this thread so much, it's a hodge podge of styles. We should really bring back to plug.dj room in the near future!

So I pretty much want to give up video games as a hobby I invest in, and make it just something to do when bored.

I really want to produce electronic music, but am having a hard time figuring out where to start. It's not a culture that I've grown up around, I don't want to be just every other Ableton/Garageband users.

If there are any forums I should check out please let me know, and then perhaps hardware that would be good to start out with. I would obviously need to use a DAW somewhere along the way, but I would very much like some physical hardware to keep things alive.

I'm not exactly traditionally trained with music. I have no concept of chords as I have only ever played the saxophone.

.

If you're looking for actual hardware rather than midicontrollers, then I'd recommend getting something relatively cheap (they go up to insane prices).

Korg just released the new 'Volca' Series.
http://www.korg.com/volcaseries

A bass, drummachine and lead synth for about 150$ each.

Microkorg is an another great piece of equipment for efficient price.
http://www.korg.com/microkorg
Dorian Concept doing some magic with it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TB0wHB3khOg

'Novation Ultranova'
. My friend has one of these, haven't tried myself but essentially it is a patch synth + modifiable synth as well - does all kinds of sounds from basses to leads.
http://global.novationmusic.com/hardware-synths/ultranova

Hope this helped a bit. :)

Also, if you're into 303 acid sound, get yourself a x0xb0x, it's the closest clone yet at about 300$.

edit: if you are into more rhythmic stuff - get yourself a Native Instruments Maschine (midi controller MPC type of machine.) or some hardware sampler (forgot the names of the cheaper ones, I'll look them up for you later).

Seem like great suggestions. Keep them coming. That Volca series is really really interesting me. Not sure if one of those or perhaps the Micro would better suit me. I'm sure I can use a DAW to lay out drums and such.

It will take awhile for me to sort and finalize what I will want. But I want to explore breakbeats, trip-hop, juke/footwork, nu-jazz sorts of stuff. So very much beat driven. Hopefully a lot of blending of samples and making use of VSTs get really full sounding pallets. But a lot of synthesising of unique sounds as well. Probably a lot for a beginner but I overthink everything before jumping in.

Speaking of hardware, anyone here had a chance to play around with a Push? Now that the waiting line has died down, I've been eyeing one...

Shaneus, Recycle Culture finally put that track you were into online for purchase along with an equally awesome A-side:

House of Surreality/Meet Her at the Blood Parade
Listening to that... is this the one I commented on sounding like it has different vibes going through the whole track? I vaguely remember making that kind of comment about what I *think* was this track, but could've been another.

I can't remember exactly what my impressions were, but I remember loving it. I have a feeling it would be a great switch-up track for a mix/set if wanting to lift it up a little bit.

<3 for the heads-up :)

Everyone should read everything he writes. Always insightful and you always come away with something.

Edit: Flicking through the comments, great to see some of the people actually there contributing to the discussion, in particular Danny Rampling. A user under the name "Layo" commented as well, but I have no idea whether that's the Layo we know or not.

Not sure if these are exactly what you're looking for but have a gander at these:

IDMf - A forum dedicated to IDM, general discussion about the scene/artists as well as lots of production advice.

Gearslutz - The Internet's premier audio gear forum. If you're interested in hardware this is the place to go.

Glitch Hop Forum - Good bunch of guys on here and lots of helpful advice even if you're not into Glitch Hop.

KVR - A site dedicated to VST/Plugins. Extremely good forum as well.

That guy on the left is easily the most awkward dancer I have seen in a while.

Ha well its Boile room! Atleast people ARE dancing!

Woii this is sick!

You NYC folk should get on this.
